Going by the tint-over I’d say Band of Brothers?
I guessed WWII and noticed the 101st patch. More than a few NCO’s ended up in charge of a Platoon (or larger)… I did watch BoB when it first aired, but I can’t remember that character.
I remember when I spent some time on a US Army base back in the 90’s though. If I wore my slouch hat they thought I was a drill SGT and if I wore my beret they thought I was Airborne
Band of Brothers. Looks to be a goof since all the officers had the enlisted piping in the pre-Normandy scenes. Later on in the show they got it right. Kind of a weird thing to goof considering how outstandingly accurate they got the rest of the equipment.
Never looked into it or had a reason to compare the services but, in the USAF 1970’s and beyond, the field cap (has other names) piping was on the officers’ cap, not enlisted.
The Phantom has me wanting one of those '70s caps. For the Army during WW2 the color was divided among service roles. Light blue for infantry, white/red for medical, green/white for armor, red for artillery, etc. but only for enlisted and NCOs. Officers had black/gold regardless of service role.
I’m pretty sure the material/color would have been different too. I read somewhere it was the same cloth used as the issue trousers, which I think were a darker shade for the officers.
I may have used the wrong term for it (field cap); think it was “garrison cap”. EBay has one for $30.00.
Yeah, dad had silver piping on his that I remember. It’s hard to see, but it you zoom in you can just catch the silver piping. He’s handing the outgoing 336th Sqd. CO, DC Vest, some bubbly after reaching 100 missions North. RTAF Ubon '72 (F-4E is a 334th).
Its been a week or two since I flew DCS without a care. For some reason my PC no longer is capable of running the sim for any length of time, nor allow it to load in a rapid fashion. It’s an excruciatingly frustrating experience.
The machine used to work so well!
I rolled back the nvidia driver update. No good. I rolled back last week’s windows update. No good. I did a slow repair on DCS. No good.
Frak! I’m at my wit’s end. Contemplating a C: drive do-over like we used to do in the bad old days.
F it, before doing the old school format C: I’ll let it try its own automated recovery thing.
Remove Overclocks.
Aint no overclocks been monitoring temps. They’re fine.
After the week i’ve had with msvc, I’ll happily blame it on windows so you don’t have to.
This might be far fetched, but some NVME drives start acting up when they are filled with data. Transfer speeds plummet even the disk could still have a lot of free space.
I think i had one of those in my PC. Usually the situation can be solved by freeing more space. It has something to do with certain NVME technology, maybe someone can fill in the details.
Sierra Hotel!
Oh yeah originals are dirt cheap on eBay. Hard part is finding one that fits my baby-sized head I had to go reproductions for all my WW2 ones.
I have the opposite problem. I never knew I have a “large” head - no brain, just a very thick skull - measured at 23 inches.
Finding a hat for me is quite the fastidious process.
this was just posted by Silver dragon over at ED
with the strange tag line " strange airport, not Kola or Caucasus,"
could this be another glimpse of the Fulda map or are the tinfoil hats coming out
EDIT just noticed they are german mig 29’s
Dang it, now I REALLY need to order that new SSD.
IGB is an exciting map considering we’ve got an A-10A (albeit low fidelity, it’s still fun to fly - and very pretty with the PBR cockpit update), and an F-4E/F… the MiG-29A would be a challenging opponent in that theater!
Edit: and since our FC F-15C doesn’t have any features that differentiate the C from the A in terms of employment, we could just stick Sparrows on it to do the air superiority role…
We really need that F-16A Block 10…
Prices are down at the moment. Not quite down to 2023 pricing but I saved $105 per unit on the SSD’s I just bought.

I have done the “factory reset” on windows 11, and therefore had to do the mass rename the input files for DCS to the new USB identifier strings. I have also found that the TV’s “network turn on” might have been a culprit, and disabled that.
Having done these things, some of them highly tedious, I can now say I have flown at least 90 minutes of perfectly fine, unhindered, quickl-loading DCS.
