To which my reply would be: “No. Nor do I take the cost of the house/appartment into account” ![]()
That is. Apart from Win10 and about 10GB of apps… Factor in enough space for it happily shuffle data and my 1 TB NVMe Drive is basically full.
I have a 4 TB SATA SSD for everything else - Media files, Steam library, etc.
So, you might be able to answer my questions. I thought Win10 couldn’t address 4 TB. I’m guessing I was misinformed. Is your drive partitioned or does Win10 address the full 4 TB?

Nearly time to move some data to backup/external storage.
I believe you have to use GPT when formatting the volume, then you can have a >2TB partition?
So $1,983.02 back in June of 2020 for my laptop, my VKB gladiator $203 in Nov of last year. Lets say $500 for my 3d printer and the various bits and bobs to make 3d printed controls. I’m sitting at around $3000. If I truly amortized it all, it would be about $3 a day, so I’d probably right around $1 an hour for my DCS entertainment before you add in module costs.
Just bought a 4tb NVME because of this exact issue.
Cant update to the latest patch. ![]()
Be here Wednesday…
It’s possible I just bound the cyclic buttons and they aren’t connected to the trim system yet, it’s also possible force trim is working using the center position, and I’m used to it working by changing the center position to the current stick position (if that makes sense)…
Entretainment is a constant in our lives. A 20 dollar movie for 2 hours is a terribly expensive thing. I always compared DCS to riding a motorbike… The bike costs over 10k and how many hours do you really ride?
Lets say I have spent 6k on DCS. Lets pretend for a minute DCS has only 4 modules… How many hours did i spend on F-18, A-10, F-16 and F-4? So thats how we spend pennies a day. Another aspect is that i get to recycle modules. Im relearning the Tiger this month and plan on learning the MiG-21 again this year.
Only consoles can be cheaper. But then youre on a console lol.
Good lord movies in the West have gotten to Japan prices? At least here they let you reserve seats. I remember when afternoon movies in the US were $6-7. Probably no more than $12 on a Friday night. And that was barely 10 years ago.
I remember when afternoon movies in the US were
… Loose change. But that was on a military base ![]()
I mean they are more expensive now (where I live at least). But the experience is markedly better now - I suppose they’re competing against a modern widescreen LCD TV or projector with a decent sound system in the convenience of my living room, so they have to.
But I remember when I was in my early working life being at the cinema thinking I’d be enjoying this more at home, because I couldn’t understand the dialogue at all! Since Imax and the new digital projectors it’s been more expensive - but a way better experience!
Cool, thanks.
afternoon movies in the US were $6-7
I recall $1.50.
But what really stands out now, to me, is during the mid/late sixties and early 70’s - I would ride my bicycle across town, by myself.
Crazy talk I know ![]()
It went up to 2.50 at some point and that seemed outlandish. They still did cartoons before the movie started too. I miss that, though I haven’t supported Hollywood for years now: TG2 being an exception - only the 2nd time I’ve been in a theatre in the 21st century
[Off topic]Where you live/time of day/theater you picked/etc all matter.
Comparison for me with the AMC theater down the street for Alien Romulus coming out this weekend:
Fri night Big D seats (nicer seats): $13.50
Big D matinee: $10.90
Regular seat: $10.50
Regular matinee: $7.90
IMAX theater 20 miles away (also AMC):
Regular seat: $9
Regular matinee: $6.70
IMAX: $13
IMAX matinee: $10.70
I don’t think this is an IMAX film, they just show it on the bigger screen with the bigger speakers.
Still, that’s a variation between $7 and $13.50 depending on location/time/seat/screens.
And we get to pick the seats for all but the farther theater’s non-IMAX seats.
[On topic]
This patch took me longer to get than many previously larger ones. The file size wasn’t that big but the speeds I was getting were never more than 50% my capacity (1Gb fiber) and often dropped well below that. Took me like 45 mins, including patching, but my NVMe SSD is fast so that was minor.
Now keep in mind the more modules you have installed, the more files are DLd and patched. My friend’s patches are usually 50-75% my size as he has far fewer planes and doesn’t have South Atlantic, Normandy 2, Afghanistan, or Kola like I do. Just PG, Syria, Synai, and the 2 free ones.
So remember if you have storage trouble you can always uninstall terrains you’re not actively using…unless you have low bandwidth available and getting them again later will be even more painful. ![]()
The raw format any film after 2015 is shot and edited in, supports being exported to IMAX Standard,
Resolution, Aspect Ratio, Color Space, Audio Resolution and Channels etc.
IMAX was IMAX Exclusive in the 90s and Early 2000’s because film industries were still shooting on older equipment that did not support the raw data needed for the IMAX Format, so anything IMAX was shot with specific cameras. 70mm vs 35mm film. now everything is digital.
I went to see Top Gun Maverick in IMAX and standard, there was a tangible difference in both the Audio and Video quality.
Screen size, Object Audio tracking are the main differences that affect the experience more than anything.
