Thanks yeah, I remembered that wrong

Anyway I did a quick Google for the error code and found out that somehow some redistributable were missing. Installed the package and now everything works.

Only issue left is I have no space for the update, but then again, Black Friday sales just started so maybe I can see if I can afford a new SSD.

Yep dcs is getting a touch on the hefty side … mine clocks in at a bit over 800gb so a 1tb drive is getting a touch tight

I’m eyeing a 4TB SSD.
Black Friday deals made it something like 20 % off.

At the cost of sounding pathetic, my GF wanted to buy me a Christmas gift and that might be it!

Wow, look at you having a stable relationship with mutual desires to make the other happy.

Yeah, you’re pathetic (I’m jealous) as heck (I’m lonely).

I have 90% of what I want that’s out. The other 10% has yet to go on sale enough for me to want to finally get it (3rd party planes).
I’d like to get the F1 and JF-17 at some point, but as I’m still neck deep in all the planes and helos I already have I can’t justify $56-$64 each for them. If they ever drop to $45 or less, that would probably do it.

That’s what I do, usually. I either get in REAL early or get when it get hits with sale numbers.

I really need a new ssd

I thought there was now a way to configure the installer so it doesn’t cache the entire update additionally to the installed files, but updates each file when its download is complete, so there should be the option to use almost no additional disk space over your existing DCS install. The downside of course is that your install is in a state of limbo while being updated and you can not play while downloading.

There’s mean-spirited jokes here I can make here about ABHs.

Especially after living with one for a few months.

It’s a pity we’re probably not getting all the earthier hand signals they use to communicate with pilots when they need to be extra, ahem, emphatic.

A post was merged into an existing topic: DCS 2.X Video Thread

So after finally installing the 4TB SSD I could install DCS-everything.

My only issue comes with the WWII maps. I put the Normandy 2.0 for emotional reasons- but is there any value to also install the Channel map?

Sure there is, a slight but marked difference in artistic interpretation makes both map interesting to compare. There’s also some content that goes eith the channel map only.

And the main thing is, since you have the space now, install it all so you don’t have to think about whether you can play on a particular server/mission, you just go ahead and play :sunglasses::+1:

At the moment, winter textures and higher detail in certain areas compared with Normandy 2.0. E.g. Channel has Amiens prison while Normandy does not, despite having its detailed area expanded there. In general I find Channel’s spring and summer textures to be superior to Normandy’s.

However Normandy has superior night lighting (if post 1945), and autumn textures.

Thank you all guys. I really appreciate the reasoned answers.:+1:

My only issue is that I still don’t have fast internet so when an update will drop I will have a larger download. That said… Super happy with the current state of affairs

That is a concern - but it has been a while since the Channel map was updated…
