Lot’s of complaints on Through The Inferno today (post patch). I didn’t fly the F-14 and had no problems, whereas yesterday I did and did.
I think it sux for now.
I think the update today wasn’t a patch, and that the workaround to silence Jester still needs to be done.

I saw the update and thought it was a fix, but it wasn’t. Wednesday I guess?
Update just corrected the version number. We still have to disable Chester’s talking to keep from CTDing.
Huh. Guess i got lucky.
yeah that Took less than a minute
Got some time for myself, to dig into the Tomcat… I really enjoy this module!
The handling of the big jet is superb! I love how Heatblur have managed to tie sound and visual vibration into the handling. They have managed to get the aircraft to talk to you.
Outstanding!
I set out to learn the flap system, out of Nellis. Flew around and mapped controls, while I checked their function. Getting to grips with the wingsweep in manual or auto, flaps, maneuver flaps, DLC and speedbrakes, is demanding. I love it! That paper @smokinhole linked to had some good tips.
When I got the hang of it, I went out to the boat.
Loaded up the Case1 IA mission and gave it a go. I smiled from ear to ear, as I trapped on the first attempt! It was just a one wire, which Jester pointed out with a mocking tone in his voice. But I couldn’t have been happier.
Hook up, flaps up, brakes in, sweep back and taxi to the cat. Kneel down, grab the shuttle, wings out and flaps down. Throttle up and salute… DAMN this is fun! Managed to trap four times in a row! No bolters. Tried with and without the DLC. Nifty little thing that DLC! Feels a bit like cheating. I felt I came in high in the groove, and increased my rate. All my landings were one wires, and Jester just wouldn’t shut up about it!
Fun, fun, fun!!!
It’s great to have a module where just flying the airplane is a joy.
Every landing I have made so far has been first wire. Still never yet crashed into fantail as I do regularly in the hornet ![]()
I do have the impression that there is something off with the hook physics in the Tomcat. While with the Hornet we do frequently see bolters if AoA or sink-rate is off, I do not think I have seen a single bolter of the Tomcat unless the hook went beyond the wires completely. It seems the plane is missing hook-skip bolters.
I got my first 3-wire (including the Hornet) with it on my second carrier landing with it, I forget what was first was.
The Hornet I now get 1s and 2s after much practice and many bolters.
That’s what I’m sayin’! My landings should’ve been 3-wires! ![]()
Seriously though… It is early access, so you may very well be right about that.
That is known as “putting it into the spud locker”
…why? Probably back in the day, the potato storage locker was back around the fantail…in other words, no idea. Now that area is the jet engine shop with a stand to mount jet engines for testing. So saying “putting it into the jet shop” is also acceptable…but the saltier folks say “spud locker”.
Ok… About Jester.
I think we should petition Heatblur to add the ability to talk back to our illustrious RIO.
”Meh! A 2-wire… I’ll take it”
I’d like to be able to reply:
”YOU WANNA COME UP HERE AND LAND THIS [CENSORED] PIECE OF [BLEEP) AIRCRAFT??”
Anybody else feel the same way?
Integrated with Vaicom?
Great idea! Of course.
Need new glasses…though you wrote “Integrated with Viagra”…I was all, “whaaat??” ![]()
Great, now the forum is going to be insufferable with all the “cheap online pharma” bots…
Hold my beer…
FYI, I was loading VoiceAttack last night and VAICOM had an update to 2.5.9.2.
CHANGELOG: 13/03/2019 update 2.5.9.2 - Revised F10 menu import function - Initial support for F-14AB Tomcat
I was flying the Mustang around Normandy and didn’t have time to dig around for the Tomcat content. I see that there is a placeholder on the VAICOM download page for a AIRIO extension. That probably means that it will be a paid add-on. This extension allows direct interactive communications with your F-14 AI backseater. Talk to me Jester!
