DCS: F-4E Phantom Phorever!

No. Sim does not use dcs. There are three sims in the building. Its not viable to pay a licence for dcs when the same licence covers the A320 and B737-800 as well as the F4

So you took it! Good for you! (And us  )
That Phantom sim looks really cool! Is the visualization system original too? How old is the sim?

Peterborough has just moved to the top of the list of places to visit if I ever return to the UK.

F4 is tech just now having the rudder system sorted. The airframe is an original RAF Phantom that flew in squadron service. RAF turned it into a sim. The company upgraded the graphics recently.

What software are they using? Hard to tell from the pics in the link.

Would love to hear about the event that led to it being scrapped and turned into a sim. I assume this was done by/for the RAF while the Phantom was still in service, correct?

I believe it was turned into dual controls and then had a mishap. Then the RAF used it as a sim. It is still dual control so the back seater can be wife/girfriend/family @Troll etc! It has an external instructors station with the ability to create interesting problems. I will find out more when back on my feet. I might have covid

I’m sorry to hear, best of luck in a quick recovery!

ETA: AFAIK, all of the USAF F-4’s were dual control, none of the USN ones were. What’s the story on the UK ones, were they based on USN birds?

For half of my life, the US and Iran have been enemies. But I can still appreciate good airmanship and a determination to keep the old girls flying. Keeping the tanker flying and functional must also be applauded, although I’m in a quandary as to why they are not speaking Farsi. Perhaps they knew it was going to be shared on YouTube. DCS really needs to add fuel mist at disconnect.

The K/M were based on the J although the RAF specified a number of Ms with single stick and some with the double stick setup. (not sure about the K)

Dave Gledhill said 50% of each in OCUs but typically only 1 double stick at squadrons.
