Ha ha. The last one I had, he said, “Dude, where’s my car?”
Thanks for the 'closing the menu advice. I can get rid of three Jester bindings now.
Jester says he is looking for a spinal surgeon after my most recent landing.
I’ve gotten a lot of praise from jester after I started following the procedure that is shown in Reflected’s landing tutorial. Fly the numbers and be disciplined in your pattern. It does need some finesse but once it clicks for you the procedure should become second nature. If I don’t concentrate on my approach it can quickly become a mess though as it needs some very fine adjustments to nail the parameters
I call it a win if I can make the other guy knock it off from running him out of gas. I figure staying neutral or better for a 10 minute fight against a UFO ain’t half bad.
Eh unless you’re back seating for someone else, all you need is the radar range, antennae elevation, and tracking gate controllers (LRUD/lock and unlock). Plenty good enough to setup your own BVR shots that way.
Yeah, vertical looping at 450kts is what he was doing!
I sat there baffled as to how it could climb and not lose any airspeed.
Yeah, they aren’t smart enough for that, either!
I was in a prolonged fight with a 21 who had burner on the entire time and then…burner out, airspeed drops, pilot ejects because he used up the gas. Never once tried to disengage.
Likewise I’ve run into the binary “I’m attacking/I’m RTBing” behavior where they come at you and will not stop only to suddenly switch to cruise mode and fly home and ignore you while you come at their 6, only evading if you lock a radar missile on.
The A2A AI is really DCS’ Achilles heel at this point. I hope they can really improve it in the near term.
I thought they were working on this? A year or so ago. Recall seeing some YT’s about it. Then…crickets.
Yea, found a couple from 1-2 years ago (Growling Sidewinder). IIRC, it was selectively applied - not all AI aircraft got this. Could be foggy memory on my part.
I’m baffled by how long changes take in DCS. The textures being wrong on the CBU-52 were reported as wrong like 8 years ago. I still remember during an interview when they admitted that it takes 3-4 months to add a single AI asset.
Thing is, spaghetti code, crufty and full of legacy bits. Compound that with a producer who will not settle for anything less than whole hog, from its nosehairs to its arsehair, and it’ll take forever.
Is gonna be awesome if it ever gets there tho
It’s due to the QA process - a “quick fix” might be quick in terms of “swap the texture in the pack”, but then it has to go through all the QA so you don’t launch the patch and find everyone on Radeon GPUs all of a sudden has “digital camo” on every single asset in the game!
The way to get things fixed is to make noise in the official forum about things that are important to you. We’re finally getting some traction with the first-person pilot models (still waiting on the A-10C though!) … so if you’re annoying enough there is hope
Still waiting to get traction on the pitch trim possibly being affected by framerates (lots of people finding short taps to give huge changes while others and HB keep doubling down on their perfect bellcrank/bellows/whatever trim modeling and that there couldn’t possibly be a problem), but so far crickets.
I’ll try it again on my rig tonight and see if I can reproduce, I should be able to get a very high frame rate in pancake with my VR settings…:
Thanks. The trim is just…not right from my perspective. Everyone says she needs lots of trim, but that’s true for all the warbirds, the F-86, the F-5, and the F-14, yet the F-4 is the only one with trim this bad. One tap aft trim takes me from -1000fpm to +2000fpm, requiring nearly 10 taps nose down trim to arrest the climb induced by that single aft tap.
Ooof talking about unstable trim… just wait until you get your hands on the Tornado.
I sense…a disturbance
Yesterday @miRage and I have been doing some 1v1 of the Phantom vs. MiG-19, MiG-21, F-5E and F1. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The Phantom holds up quite well. The fights were generally slightly dissimilar but pretty even, no aircraft clearly dominated the other. But the F-4 in most cases could work towards a superior position by initially keeping very fast sustained turns (M0.9 or so), then gradually shifting to a spiral climb and transitioning to the vertical once the enemy got slow enough and could not follow. Though that superior position above would still not easily translate to an actual shooting position, especially with rear-aspect weapons.
The clearest superiority of the Phantom was against the MiG-19, which was left below quite quickly. The F1 was outturned with sustained turns pretty quickly and had to force a slow speed fight, where she held up surprisingly well due to its combat flaps. But the Phantom could power upwards to safety pretty easily if needed. I love the F1 very much and have flown it intensively in the past years, but it is just an awful plane in ACM The F-5E and MiG-21bis held up pretty well.
All in all very interesting fights and a far cry from combat against the AI.
But I must say neither miRage nor I are competitive dueling experts (we tend to seek combat from superior positions and disengage from “even” fights) and our proficiency in the MiGs is rather limited. So results may vary.
So you guys are pros’s?
No, we are just cowards
