I’m not drawing conclusions on the state of the Hornet project. What i’m talking about is this:
On the one hand we have the project lead posting his plans of a release date, despite countless assurances that ED don’t give out estimates of release dates any more. On the other hand, almost immediately, the biggest Kahuna for ED west of the Vltava, who, needless to say, hardly posts on the forum these days safe for official PR announcements, understandably makes a statement to relativise the post by the project lead. Regardless of what the exact reasons were (to which point i’m not going to speculate), it does project an hair of disarray and no amount of denial can change that. It’s not a big deal, really, i just wanted to make myself a bit clearer.
The reason i’m even bothering to mention all this is that i like the policy of not giving out anything that isn’t set in stone. History has proven that “the community has to temper its expectations” doesn’t work. It’s disheartening to see an effort (e.g. not riling up the community by keeping the lid closed) to make a change undermined, be that willingly or by mistake.
Now back to the Hornet (or possibly, how unhelpful i am ).
I’m guessing it will be out when it is ready. I’m not sure why anyone actually cares about dates. It will be here when it is here. No amount of analyzing it will make it happen sooner or later.
They do, and a lot of them seem to be quite upset about ED not adhering to their real or fan based imaginative schedule.
Like you, and @BeachAV8R, I have never understood this.
Sure, I get exited about new modules and maps, and like everybody else I’d like to get my hands on them ASAP. But I can’t say I get upset or even bothered about delays. So, they pushed it. Ok, better than releasing it unfinished… It’s not like I don’t have enough to fill my limited spare-sim time with, as it is, already.
I’m looking forward to an F-18 as the RAAF have 3 squadrons of A & B models…but your post insinuates I should also get on with life…that’s just unreasonable…
Yup, and most of my replies have been to point that out for those hitting F5 on the products page looking to pre-order the Hornet, or think they can translate more out of the Russian than there is, or pretend to have an inside look into operations because of one simple little forum post
I’m just interested to see how they model the air to ground radar after almost two decades of not having one, even a very unrealistic modeling of one (cough, Flanker 2.5, cough). I may have been alone, but I kind of liked how that old modeling worked for the Sea Flanker and the Sea Fulcrum.
Isn’t the work on the Straits of Hormuz map meant and intended to be a companion to the Hornet?
