DCS F/A-18C

There is an afterburner setting option. By default it should not require the fingerlifts to be activated, or is it the other way around? Just check the options.

I tried to search afterburner but no dice. What is the name of the command?

Throttle finger lift Both. This will get AB. Can’t wait to get home now
Ok, I’m home. Confirmed. This button default key is “0”. Boy that AB looks good.
So back off the throttle some, lift both finger lifts and nail the throttle.
Now every time you hit it the AB will light.

I think on the carrier it is on by default now IIRC from the last patch notes.

Interesting video on carrier ops in DCS I just happened across by a RW Hornet pilot. Some I already knew from previous sims (mainly Jane’s F/A-18) but interesting nonetheless.

Over the wing Vaps WIP

We are at the point now that we are quite happy with the vaps coming of the Hornet LEX. So, we are now shifting our effect focus to the over-wing vaps. These are less commonly seen than LEX and wingtip vaps, and only really happen in very humid conditions (particularly at low altitude near/over the water). Today we have a very early look at these. As with the LEX vaps, these will be tuned and improved.

As mentioned, humidity plays a huge factor in the generation of vaps coming off the aircraft… wingtips, LEX, over-wing, and even the Mach cone (yes, planned for later). To model this properly, our current efforts to improve the weather system of DCS World current lays with adding a new humidity function.

We plan to move these vap effects to all our aircraft, not just the Hornet! Speaking of all of our aircraft, now is a great time to fill out your DCS World library. Between now and 4 July 2018, get 50% off on most DCS World modules!

Sorry, I couldn’t figure out how to resize an image I posted. NineLine posted the images anyway… problem solved.

On these images the wingtip vortex looks like they got improved as well, hence they were missing in the previous update?

Just had to say…I’m having a blast with this sim! The F-18 coupled with the Persian Gulf terrain is just fun to fly around. Looking forward to rest of functionality and what ever comes next.

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet – Episode 15: Aircraft Shutdown

In this lesson we take a look at shutting down the aircraft after exiting the runway. We’ll also take a look at one of the new airbases coming to the Persian Gulf map!

For those of you that already own the Hornet, now is a great time to expand your DCS World stable of aircraft, maps, and campaigns! Get half off most DCS World modules until 5 July 2018.

I’ve always found that, since way back to Graph Sims F/A-18 Hornet 3/Korea, I can land better on a carrier than I can at an airfield and I can in DCS F/A-18C too! All attempts caught the wire.

Ok it wasn’t text book for glideslope etc (working on it) but I get down with no damage (I love you Hornet reinforced landing gear). Really, really loving this module.

I was just like you Mace, until I started trying to do it “proper like”. Since then I have missed the wire many times  .

For me, the secret to landing at a field has been half flaps. A lifetime of aiming for “sqweakers” has given me habits that no game is going to break.

Landing is all about mitigation.

I simply provide cushions and back braces to the crew.

I find landing solely at Edwards AFB on the desert is the best way. When you have unending miles to stop you can come in fast and shallow and not worry about all that other junk!

Oh, there’s also the “press esc to end mission” method which is 100% flawless.

I know right - It’s almost as if that place was specifically designed for planes that really like going fast and really don’t like going slow! Wonder if there’s a story to that
