You’re forgetting the other weapon available for use against helicopters: Mk84!
I dunno, if you could somehow fire vortex ring states with HOH “Home On Helo”. That would get them everytime
Well, there is the “HELO” setting on the stores page…
You are misspelling it. Plus it has nothing to do with helicopters. It is a feature exclusive to the Canadian CF-18. It’s called “Hello!” It’s a large speaker placed on hardpoint 5 programmed to say:
“Hello!”
“HellOOOO!”
“Hellllloo!”
“Hello?”
at pre-programmed intervals.
No, that can’t be right. Canadians are supposed to go “eh” and “sorry.”
Further proof we need DCS:Bone. It can carry a lot of heli hunting kit!
Amen brotha!!!
Can’t we just fire bolas at the helos and get them tangled up in the rotors? It’s the only sure fire way to take them out of the sky.
Yes! And I hear that the September FA-18C mod upgrade will feature the AIB-130 “AMRAAB”, A2A bola weapon. (Well, not really, but somebody had to get this thread back on topic)
In an upcoming update we’ll be expanding the tracking ability of the AIM-9X out to 90 degrees. So, once you snag a lock (boresight or SEAM), it will hold on to the lock at High Off Boresight (HOBS) angles. However, even with a HOBS lock, you will have to account for the ability of the AIM-9X to still make the turn in time to intercept the target / retain energy to run the target down after bleeding a lot of energy in the turn.
This video show some internal tests of what is to come.
Once the JHMCS in integrated (our current new-feature priority), you’ll be about to snag locks just using the helmet at 90 degrees off. When combined with VR: Nirvana.
LOL! I can see it now. In the multiplayer servers, no one will be flying the Russian birds anymore. Unless they are F/A-18s with Russian skins.
Give up my Mig-21?! Never!
I gotta try out one of these fabled multiplayer servers sometime. My nagging suspicion is there’ll be a lot of sore bug pilots because thus far air-air performance isn’t a whole lot better than the Flankers and Fulcrums.
I was just thinking…
For the logbook, all we have is the USAF ranks and awards. That rankles me more than slightly when I look at my character’s awards and logbook entries in game. We have the Harrier, we have the Hornet, we have the Tomcat on the way. How about getting US Navy and USMC ranks and awards to go with them? Also, can we get an expanded award list, with things like the Navy Achievement Medal, Commendation Medal, Legion of Merit, Navy version of the Congressional Medal of Honor, etc? And maybe some (somewhat realistic) medals and awards for completing campaigns, based on the theaters they’re in?
Just a thought.
Are… those not the same as USAF officer ranks?
They are the same, but you wouldn’t see the blue stripes on any Marine uniform.
The whole thing needs a readjustment of the career system. Something like Longbow 2 at least would be nice.
I’m not sure I’ve actually looked at the logbook since LOMAC.
Wondering if this will pave the way for HMC functionality in the Mig-29, which would be accurate to the real world…
That said, I’m curious, does the JHMCS in the real hornet have any other application besides cuing the AIM-9X off bore-site? Eg, can the pilot look at a point and set a SPI, or slave a targeting pod camera and/or laser to that location? Perhaps navigation and target tracking/situational awareness functionality, eg. a radar lock diamond that’s outside the hud (say, 60 degrees off the nose) is visible on the JHMCS.
