DCS F/A-18C

And I promise I’ll try the Hornet in VR this morning. :vr: :boom:

Imagine this for a MP mission … Some hornets flying cap cover over harriers and uh1(I know  ) flying close air over a beach landing … This is after some more hornets have done a SEAD mission to soften up any air defense…

I’ll tell you what. I’m pretty wowed by the Persian Gulf map and MP missions are going to be a blast on it. Yes, NTTR is awesome…but there is more plausibility to a real conflict in both the Caucasus and the Persian Gulf. It will be really cool to have these strike and CAP missions over terrain that feels appropriate. I absolutely love the little islands because they give excellent frame of reference for training and bombing things (it is easy to keep your bearings and find the targets).

So the Hornet in VR looks (predictably) incredible. I spent most of this morning trying different options with regards to graphics and options trying to settle on the best clarity vs. performance. I finally settled on fairly well medium settings with 1.6 pixel density. The desert looks great in VR and the experience of zipping around Dubai in VR is as awesome as you’d expect.

Practiced some dirty, high alpha passes down the runway. You can put in full back stick, go light on the rudders, and the speed settled in at around 110-115 at 17.5 AOA…then you just use power to keep yourself from settling. You can do gentle turns with a bump in power and the Hornet stays pretty stable throughout.

Going super-sonic for the first time out over the Gulf to revisit Abu Ny’air because I found out that my brake axes were actually reversed and brakes were being applied constantly. Thus, when I was hitting the brakes, they were releasing instead of binding… Derp…

Success…! You can see my skid marks from different attempts with anti-skid off and on.

To my untrained, non-Hornet pilot experience, it feels like the brakes won’t quite give you enough. Like, you can’t abruptly stop even with the anti-skid off or on. I don’t know if that is realistic or not, but I just feel that I should be able to stomp on the brakes at 10 mph and have the airplane nosebob very hard and come to an almost immediate stop. I’ll have to investigate that more though.

Anyway, in VR the plane is just awesome of course. The next gen of headsets can’t get here fast enough.

I’ve never purchased and Early Access for DCS before. Does anyone know if the discounted price ($10 off right now) lasts through the Early Access period (ie - up until Beta), or will it last up to the start of Early Access (ie - up until it’s available for download).

Trying to minimize the amount of time my cash is tied up in something I can’t use, but don’t want to miss out on the discount.

Going by previous releases, the special pricing ends as soon as the module becomes available.

Interesting seeing the gloved hand in that shot. I wondered how DCS was going to pull off arms for pilots and what not when those same arms could cover up switches you need to see and touch on the side panels.

Awesome. That’s exactly what I was looking for. Will pull the trigger soon.

Haha well I don’t remember messing with the VRS HUD designation but what you’re describing sounds like how they did the ATFLIR as well. You move around a cursor and hit enter to change the designation, which is not the case.

Anytime you move the ATFLIR around or slew the diamond around in the hud, etc, that’s changing the active designation.

I think VRS has some sort of software limitation with how the coded that.

I’m being unfair, but then again I also dropped a fair amount of money on a module for the third time that does not work. So now I have no hornets to fly.

I’m not going nuts. You’re going nuts!

@BeachAV8R. You should do a loop, and then let go of the stick while going over the top at > 45 degrees AoA and tell us what happens.

That is an inaccurate quote.

This thread is already torture enough without bringing that back up :frowning:

Removed. Thought it would be funny but sometimes you miss. NOT trying to derail.
