Dang, now I want to know what it was!
Boy do I know what you mean. Trust me I’m with you…
Me too ![]()
Well, so not sure what parameters you are looking for, tried to just pull over the top until I saw 45 AOA and then just let go of everything…the nose will continue over and if I don’t pull the power back it will start downhill and build up speed. If I pull the power, obviously speed doesn’t build as fast. And I blame you for the second video…that makes $60 million in lost Hornets in the past 24 hours (2 x $30 mil)…
The sounds in that second video were amazing. Felt like I just witnessed an accual air show accident in both first and third person.
That accurately describes my combat flying…
Mission accomplished…
Welcome to some of our friends from Reddit…I saw the question regarding the boundaries of the map…so I went up to that northwestern extremity and you can see it is low res like the fringes of NTTR…but elevation data seems to be there as the mountains show up…
I might be misremembering it, and I’m not really in a position to check the manual at the moment, but one of the things that stuck with me from the NATOPs is this specific scenario.
The F/A-18’s FCS is supposed to allow you up to 35 degrees of AoA without complaint. Passed that, the computer will attempt to bunt the nose down to reduce AoA. The pilot can override this, and continue up to ~55 degrees, but it requires continuous back pressure on the stick.
The manual stresses that you should not let go of the stick at >35 degrees AoA while inverted, because the computer will attempt to put the nose down to reduce AoA… but down is up… You can see where we’re going with this.
The sounds they developed for the Hornet are very good. The sound of the airstream being present outside of the canopy, the change in pitch as you load up with G…all superb.
I was going to say the exact same thing! The sound was my favorite part.
Khasab Airport (Oman) looks like it would be interesting if you are shooting an instrument approach. Will have to see if there are any instrument approaches there (anyone got Jepps for that part of the world?)…
You might be at a disadvantage there, considering there isn’t an ILS in that jet.
I’m trained on VOR / NDB / GPS / RNAV / ILS / LDA / LOC and in a pinch PAR/GCA… Surely I can find my way somehow…!
Gonna need some screws to mount that NS 430 on the canopy bow… ![]()
TACAN approaches are pretty fun. Just need to account for magnetic declination cough @Klarsnow cough
Here’s a fun one…DME ARC to the FAF…usually the arc is to join an inbound VOR or ILS…but this time, the arc IS the final…

Nice skin and great pics. I stopped looking at this thread ages ago when it got to 800 unread posts. Glad I came back to it ![]()
Oh wow…he circled to land back toward the sea…
What a crap photographer, he should have given the camera to his mate in the front… better view ![]()
