I need to get some practice in with those aircraft. Probably wise to start from the top of the popularity list?
I loaded up the Spitfire for the first time in a while. I just sort of glanced at the engine starter button and it flipped over and killed me. Iām going to need some practice as I used to be okā¦
know the feeling ā¦
I havenāt really flown it yet. Only a quick whizz around and every time I get in it it kills me. Every time.
My normal flights go something like this ā¦
start up⦠ok ish
take off ⦠very scary, lots of rudder and I never seem to get airborne in the same direction that i started in.
Flight⦠all goes well until i do something silly with the engine. then glide to the nearest field and slide to a haltā¦
That should be an April foolās module, that we actually get for free. The havoc one could causeā¦
Sounds good!
I can get HPN to run @Franzeās No Effort training range, we should get everyone crashing together again!
Welcome to Spitfire - now try the Mustang and be amazed at the difference!
That was all my first takeoffs too. 30 degrees on runway line roughly. Watch the boost gauge and oil temperature! 80°C max, donāt go above for long! Max cruise at 7Lbs boost for continuous running!
Maybe I could stream a terrible lesson - as in, the instructor is still learning too!
TOTALLY!! I can already imagine the youtube video clickbait titles. āYou thought aerial refueling was hard, wait until you try to connect your parasitic fighter to this trapezium on a strategic bomber!ā
me too⦠Hopefully DCS will some day feature a module of a plane that approaches its size.
I donāt know what @Franze and @Wes are cooking up. But if this fly-in is as inclussive as our fly-ins typically are, Iām sure you can get by by being able to fly a WW2 warbird, a gen 1 and a gen 2 jet fighter.
As for the spitfire⦠for me it flies like a dream. I have all the trim settings attached to my rotaries on my throttle and that seemingly works wonders. Thereās no other plane that I actively use rudder trim on, but the spit does great with a touch of trim depending on the situation. I do prefer my 'Stang though. All the 303ās do is tickle, or so it seems. The Hispanoās are great, though.
Accurate!
The 50ās are much nicer, but they donāt punch as hard as the 20ās.
The Spit flies nicer to me, but the handling on the 'Stang is far, far superior.
I also find that the gunsight in the 'stang makes a world of difference, as I donāt find myself shooting below my own nose blindly.
A bit late to the discussion - but Iām totally in if I can make it if and when this happens
I know it doesnāt have a mission as suchā¦but if the Yak was in the aircraft list in the mission, Iād be pretty keen for some MP joyrides
I think it could be included with some kind of resource ferrying or reconnaissance role.
Absolutely! I also love the .50 / gyroscopic sight combination. Itās some fumbling (again, the rotaries come in handy!) and takes some practice but when you get the hang of it you can get dozens of rounds on target, enough to outright destroy even AI fighters.
Because of this topic I got the DCS Dora out of a pretty cobweb filled hangar and took a quick flight. Good fun, and a lot more docile that the Spitfire. Did some circuits and it seems less murdery.
Whatās the best way to fight in a Dora? I seem to stall it fairly easily in a turn fight - is it a boomy zoomy where I should be chasing up/down or am I just stomping on the rudder too hard?
I flew the Anton and noticed how heavy it felt - it dislikes rudder and flies more more a modern jet (roll + pitch turns). Use low level speed and climb performance - so ya, boom and zoom I would gather. You will lose the turn fights easily compared to what you can dance around in the Mustang or Spitfire.
If you are flying, I am on HPN going to try out a Dora with the rockets.
In both directions?
I think I was just losing too much speed and stomping.
Took a quick flight with @Wes and itās a puddy cat to fly - idiot-proof, so I like it
Can you guys add a hot start option? More flying less clicking on the old ones.
Oh yeah. SRS, in game voice or discord?
I could use an SRS tutorial. Iāve never used it.
