It’s the usual drivel “WHY COULD THESE PEOPLE NOT HAVE BEEN PUT ON DCS 2.5” and a lot of confused people. To be honest I am a bit confused too given the lack of information from ED’s side. Still think this could be very neat though!
I’ll buy it.
Oh I already said that. Oh well.
I’ll buy it!
PS: I bought it! With full bonus discount it’s $10.99, which worked out at £8.65
Won’t the F-5E also need a Fuzz Buster to detect Tomcat radar?
If I was to pretend to be an employee on the inside (and I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn last night) … I think that they intend it to be available to whatever module wants (or licenses?) it but, given that they don’t know the coding structure/design of those modules, they can not promise it since they don’t know if it will work with all modules (see VEAO and how they were coding multi-seat, multiplayer and when ED implemented, realised that they had chosen their direction poorly).
I think that Mi-8 plus L-39 is a good indication that it may be available for everyone, assuming the module teams can integrate it with little fuss.
The weird thing is, officially it is designated as being for the Mi-8 exclusively. So as it is right now, people buying it for the L-39 might potentially find themselves having to buy it again.
That’s why I would only recommend picking it up if it supports a module you are interested in.
I picked it up last night for the Mi-8 because I don’t understand (ie: never put time in) the doppler navigation system (even though we have a great article on it).
Anything else is speculation. We don’t have the information on how/why/if it is being shared, so I would recommend not purchasing it if you are basing the decision on future potential.
Same goes for any early access module, really.
Buy for the present, not the future.
It’s so easy and fun to learn! I would highly recommend putting some time in it!
Other way around. The [will have to check which] model of RWR the F-14 was using in the early 80s couldn’t detect the band of radar used by the HAWK SAM System. Wasn’t a huge problem because no one but NATO allies and Iran used it…
until it was a problem that Iran used it. However the HAWK radar happened to be in the same band as police radar guns, and the rest was history.
As far as I know the Tiger’s got no issues detecting the AWG-9.
Well even though I can find my way anywhere in the DCS world’s using the MI-8’s navigation aids I have bought myself a satnav. Now to find out how it works
We have a GNS 430 as our secondary long range nav in one of our Citations. The nicest part of it is that the XM Weather feature gives us some nice planning imagery for storms…and the text METAR and TAF functions mean you don’t have to wait until you are in AWOS range to start formulating a plan. Looking forward to checking this out.
The 430 is my favourite GPS in FSX/P3D,too, and I have plenty of documentation for it, as long as this one has been programmed the same way.
I’m pretty sure that Garmin have a trainer prog for it, too, somewhere. Just depends how completely BST have modelled it.
Here ya go:
ah - needs WinXP - not compatable with later O/S or 64bit
oooh - manuals etc, too:
Boyz and their toyz!
I do hope all you real world users can get us plebs up and running. I can’t even navigate to the manual
Looks like the decision to require repurchases for new aircraft has not yet been made by BelSimTek
That is important information!
Important indeed.
Can’t say i support their decision to throw it onto the market before it is clear what people will get in return. Personally i’m going to sit this one out.
I don’t understand…
The product is clearly labled “DCS: NS 430 Navigation System for DCS: Mi-8MTV2”.
Why are some people wondering if this product will work with other DCS modules, other than the Mi-8?
Well… I for one have been flying around with that thing mounted in my L-39
You’d think the title would be crystal clear. But there are some mixed signals to be found. The dedicated forum is called “DCS:NS-430”, there is an options tab where you can choose on what aircraft to mount the device (currently only the Mi-8 in most versions of DCS, and the Mi-8 and L-39 in a certain version of DCS)
ED’s own reply on facebook tells us that the matter has not been decided yet by BST.
Personally I think it should be a single purchase, but with that said, a lot of work went into this module. Other sims have had paid upgrades, RoF field mods spring to mind. Items that you don’t need but are nice to have if you want them. I’m a strong proponent of voting with my wallet when it comes to things like this rather than create a stink on the forums because the developer doesn’t adhere to my particular thoughts on how things should be run.
If you like it, buy it. If you don’t, then move along. If too many people chose not to buy it then the developer will get the message. If plenty of people buy it, then the work wasn’t wasted.
I bought it btw. .
And this is actually a functional and modelled GNS 430. That’s freakin awesome and very useful for us system enthusiasts! I do see the value in it but I’d like to have a little more certainty about what the plan is with the module.
Oh i’m all for voting with your wallet. But for that, the cards have to be on the table.
There’s an information vacuum right now and that will inevitably lead to some people making their decision based on an assumption that they thought was fact at that time. That is quite unfortunate and hurts the DCS brand.
