DCS: Garmin GNS 430

^^^^
This. :+1:

When it was first released, didn’t it already work with other aircraft until it was patched out?

No. Someone found a way to hack the L-39C module to use the NS430 in it. But it was not official, and it was sold as ”For the Mi-8”.
I mean, I never doubted they would implement it in other modules, but I never thought they’d do it for free and nobody led me to believe so either.

I don’t own this or have interest in it, but I don’t see the big deal. If you buy it for $15, you’ll get it on the mi8 fully modeled and have a pop up window in every other aircraft. If you already bought it for the mi8, you already get it for everything else for free.

I understand the pop up window plan, it would be pretty difficult to model a 3D representation in all the aircraft, especially when they aren’t meant to have one.

So in summary, unless I’m wrong:

$11 gets you a fully functional pop up window in every aircraft.

$15 gets you a 3D one in the Mi8 and 2d everywhere else.

Yeah, that seems about right.

They have now changed it so you buy the NS430 as a module on its own. And then you pay for integration into either the Mi-8 or L-39C.

I just don’t understand the uproar. $11 bucks to put a GPS in every module doesnt seem outrageous, especially if you enjoy navigation that much. Besides, it will be on sale soonTM and you can get the whole package for probably $8.

I purchased it when it first came out, but quickly came to the conclusion that the quirky Doppler navigation system was part of the charm of the Mi8 experience.

Also, in real life, inputting text with the twist knobs works quite well but it is still somewhat clunky. I think it is far worse when trying to use a simulated version with a mouse.

The newer Garmin units with touch screen input are much more suited to using a mouse, as we can see with the GTN750 and it’s smaller brother, which work wonderfully in X-Plane, P3D and FSX.

Sure, I don’t mind paying for it. To me the price simply isn’t worth it. If it’s truely that expensive to ED to implement the NS430 in the aircraft that can reasonably have a 3D model of it, then so be it but it’s not for me.

They charge $11 for the NS430 module now, and $6 to have the 3D model in the cockpit. Or a $15 bundle deal.
The Reality XP Garmin 430 will set you back $50.

I have no idea what the actual cost would be, but this is the ‘new’ DLC business model, that we see in other sims and games as well.

But, the good thing is that the customers can decide for themselves, if it’s worth their money or not.

Who remembers this nifty lil thing from way back before the wayback? It’s coming to the Fulcrum as well as a seperate DLC.
