I used the MOAB a couple of times from the C130 and the effects are devastating. You can go on low level and the parachute means it can be dropped and you have time to fly away from blast zone. Can you not utilize them for some of your targets instead of blowing millions on a B52

Nothing else came off that runway. I stayed in playing the CA commander for a bit…then, using the logic of revenge, knew that we still had @fearlessfrog’s Hornet still in Slot #3 - he wouldn’t mind if I borrowed it right?? So I went out with 4x HARMs - managed to kill 3 out of the 4 remaining SA11 TELs - there is still one there though!

Front lines are still moving west…and with some room to breathe from the SA11s, I think we will start to knock out those air numbers. Our armor is doing a great job…

And @fearlessfrog - you will be happy to know I saved your jet…! After the 3x HARM shots, I strafed an Su-17 on the ground at Al Ain and took out another one orbiting to the north. Then fled some CAP flights and couldn’t make it back to the carrier on fumes - so I diverted to Fujairah - landed with about 100 lbs. And in an epic moment…as I was rolling out a 4 ship enemy flight came cresting over the mountain just west of the field…a pair of Su-25s and a pair of Su-17s flying CAP…I thought I was dead on the runway but the SM2s got two of them…the others scurried away. It was so epic looking…

Here is the post-flight .liberation file if anyone wants a look-see…

Of some interest in that last mission was the fact that the enemy must have put together a breakthrough force at one of their nodes and sent them to the coast several moves ago (?) - because on this mission, all of the sudden there was a somewhat major enemy presence just a bit north of Sohar. I’m not sure how that gets there without traveling through the “node” of Sohar or Fujairah - but I’m not totally sure how we (or the AI enemy) are allowed to use the road networks (or offroad).

Regardless, we had a pretty good BLUE presence in the area…and I took advantage of the fact that I got shot down by the SA-11 to manually move some forces against the bigger RED armor threats via Combined Arms…

What do they say about the SA-11?

Fool me once - shame on me.
Fool me twice - shame on me.
Fool me thrice - shame on me.

@Fridge and I getting ready for our OCA strike on Al Ain…

I disrespected an SA-11 that I thought was out of range and paid the price. Somehow @Fridge managed to get a good drop on his GBU and put this crater down. It was pretty intense with the SA-11 lighting him up, an enemy SWEEP type flight coming in, and fighters coming off the very airfield he was bombing. I could see the exhaust of the taxiing aircraft in my targeting pod before I got shot down.

Unfortunately, I think you have to put a certain number of bombs on the runway in order to render it destroyed under the rules of Liberation (I do not know this for sure). After that point, the runway requires repair, which costs the faction money, and you miss having the airfield available for a couple/few turns (again…not sure exactly how many).

While I was drifting down in my chute…I went ahead and assumed the CA Commander role and started ordering my coastal forces to meet the RED pop-up attack there…

@Fridge coming back to the boat. He survived was fortunate when our late F-14 ESCORT showed up right when things were getting interesting. Actually, our escort was not late…we were way early because we didn’t want to wait at the JOIN point. I had manually created the mission and without having discussed it at length with @Fridge I had given us quite a bit of time between our cold start and the TOT - the reason being that sometimes clients might want to use something like a JSOW that requires some programming on the carrier…this time we got off a bit faster and therefore were early. We could have opted to orbit and tanker while we waited for our escort…but…hey…this is a test campaign!

It was getting late and @Fridge hopped off and while I was wrapping up my CA moves I thought to myself…hey…we had a 3-ship flight in case @fearlessfrog showed up…so I hopped in the spare Hornet to avenge my SA-11 shootdown(s)…

Killed three of the remaining SA-11 TELs…but could not get the last one to turn on, so there is one single TEL remaining. Went over to the bombed airfield, strafed an Su-17, shot down another one, and then had to bug out when RED air started to swarm from the western airbases.

I was low on fuel and did the math on reaching the CVN which was now 90 miles away, versus the divert field which was only 50 miles away. I had to end around some enemy CAP to allow the coastal Patriot sites to help me out. I landed with about 180 lbs. of fuel…! And in an epic moment…as I was turning final a RED Su-25 strike came popping up over the ridge west of the airfield along with their Su-17 escort. I thought I was dead for sure…but some SN-2s from offshore came zipping across the sky at low altitude and smacked down the Su-25s right on the airport perimeter…! Epic stuff…

These just define how the frontline units will behave ingame. You could set them to RETREAT but kill all the enemy fronltline units and the front would be advancing in your favor.

It can be interesting to play with the various stances: Frontline Strategies Stances · dcs-liberation/dcs_liberation Wiki · GitHub

Also, Anyone has some experience with adding new units to a faction?
I’d like to add the new ground units like the leo’s and the VAB mephisto but they don’t show up in the liberation software. I’ve tried several name variations but I cant figure out which name Liberation is using.
i.e. the new T-72B3 appears as “MBT_T_72B3” in the russian faction but when I dig into the DCS files I cannot find that particular term.

Not tried that yet @EightBall but their Discord is very helpful here - DCS: Liberation

If you find out do let us know. If no luck let me know and I can try to look through the db files they have and work something out.

The flashlight always makes me feel like it is going to reveal a face-hugger…spooky…

@fearlessfrog getting all programmed up…

Night missions are terrifying… I went with the NVGs. It helps…but visual acuity is pretty terrible…

We had a nice attack on Al Ain airfield…did some damage…shot down some planes. It was actually quite frantic… Came back to the carrier and the AI escort Tomcats were coming back. They didn’t really help much…

Sun is coming up…!

We decided to do an unscheduled 2nd sortie because the SA-11 site was still alive. I don’t know why it won’t die…

Heading back after the second sortie…

Our ground troops are doing great. @fearlessfrog had the great idea of reducing our Sohar base assets and moving them into the front forces…which seems to be working well. I thought we might capture Al Ain on this turn, but maybe…just maybe the next one… @fearlessfrog and @Fridge did a lot of whiz-bang stuff on this mission…lobbing a few JSOWs and JDAMs… I’m not smart enough to do all that so I took rockets…

We’re going through a major addiction at the moment, so lives, families, careers have all been tossed away, as DCS Liberation is just too important for anything else

We tend to either do a flight around 2021-05-28T19:30:00Z or 2021-05-29T02:30:00Z sort of time slots. We’re always in the Mudspike Discord flight voip thing, so people are very welcome.

Yeah…we’ve been randomly playing but mostly between 3PM Eastern US and 11PM Eastern depending on a multitude of factors. There is a non-linear dirty looks scale from the wife that requires years of interpretation and study to reach about 10% comprehension level.

We’ve been sort of trying to learn the ropes of the server and missions and campaign workflow…we have it down pretty good but are still learning some stuff about the way the campaign unfolds. The plan is to host missions and have chats about the direction the war should take and try some larger group missions. We also need to evaluate whether to go to the development branch of Liberation or stay on the stable. I think we will have something maybe in a week or so hopefully…

Hooray! We captured Al Ain…and we now own MAGPIE and FISH and we can actually put them back into service (with a bit of spending…)… Time to give back the love to the RED side…!

The @Fridge TWS double kill was pretty sweet.

Plus he did JDAM the final SA-11, so he gets the prize tonight for sure.

A peek at the “morning intel”… (would be nice to get a professional assessment from @Hangar200 on this wouldn’t it?)

OK…did some rebalancing of forces across the theater:

  • Disassembled one close-in SAM site up at Fujairah since there is still a Patriot and Avenger and Linebacker there (to be honest we could probably drop the Avenger as well).
  • Also disassembled the very furthest north Patriot site (DUCK) as it has quite a bit of overlap with the Fujairah one.
  • Disassembled one close-in SAM site from Sohar.

Started the aircraft buildup at Al Ain:

  • 2x A-10C
  • 4x F-16CM
  • 6x F/A-18C
  • 4x F-15C

These aircraft will not be available until the next turn I think (Turn 14). The mix of aircraft will allow for any additional clients that want to fly that type.

The CVN still has:

10x F-14B
9x F/A-18C
1 E-2C

The LHA still has:

5x AV-8B

I only slightly supplemented the Al Ain ground forces, adding a couple Strykers. I’m not sure how the campaign divides the ground forces between the two fronts, but I have Al Maktoum set to DEFENSIVE and Al Dhafra to AGGRESSIVE. The northern front out of Fujairah to Al Minhad is now set to BREAKTHROUGH to see if we can capture Al Minhad in the next turn. Our offense on that front is quite substantial with 4 Strykers, 3 Abrams, and 3 Bradleys…they should be OK capturing Al Minhad since all the intel shows there are BMPs and BTRs and only 3 M60A3s. If we wanted to “help” up there…taking out the tanks would probably be the most useful move…but I think they can handle it.

For missions…I would suggest maybe dedicated DEAD flights to rid the western side of the SA-6s (I count three of them still active) and/or an OCA strike against both Al Dhafra and Al Maktoum.

A-10C-II is inticing. I’ve been flying that the most lately but I have a feeling I’ll be target practice for those F-14As

Forgot to mention this. I think I know what the problem is. Escorts get tasked as Sweep in the Mission Editor, and under Advanced Waypoint Actions they are set to “search then engage” fighters only. They ignore multi-role fighters and bombers. I always go through those flights and check multi-role fighters too and then they start doing some actual work. I think 98% of “fighters” in DCS are classified as multi-role in the code, so if “search then engage” is set to fighters only they’ll never engage anything.
