I’m going to hop on for a bit - mostly as an attempt to get some control mapping done and try out the HMCS that @fearlessfrog was raving about. Maybe I’ll try some laser-guided bombs too…
I’ll actually be on Hollo Pointe North - Syria is in darkness right now so I wanna check out @Wes’s server!
It’s actually turning dark on HPN too though…
I see an option to restart the mission in 2 mins…so maybe that will give it daylight…
If you encounter any problems, ping me on Discord.
I can remote connect home and fix things up if needed.
It looks great… The briefing is really good!
Hip, hip, Hurray! Can ya tell I’m texting at 63Mbps (down 950+)?
Now to fix the mess the previous people have made in my network box - cable dude doesn’t do ANYTHING but plug in the modem to power. I could’ve done that. Guess I expected more.
And I gotta get the wife’s online TV stuff going…man’s work is never done.
Now to find a REALLY big file to d’l, just for fun
Getting shellacked by a storm at the moment might lose my net for a bit…
The server was great…! USMC Beans joined for just a short bit - he had to go back to work…then miRage helped keep the red air off me while I tried to take out a few SAM sites. I think the SA-2 is down…one of the telephone poles zipped right past my canopy…very exciting…! It looked like the ground battle north of Senaki was being handily won by BLUE ground. I wandered over there and miRage took care of some L-39s and I got a bit too low and ate a missile from I think a Strela…
Fun stuff. I had to break off to make dinner…but had a great time. Love the mission…very approachable and the RED air wasn’t overwhelming. I didn’t explore all the F10 functions or try any other roles other than the Hornet of the Roosevelt. The clouds really make these missions feel alive…love it…
Sorry for the image spam, but I love TacView
Beach going 2v1
Splash one MiG (and nicely dodging the R-27)
All Aspect Heater Shootout (ending in mutual annhilation)
I’m lobbing two Phoenix towards two Albatros
Last shot from the TacView file before the Server crashed (5 min delay). We splashed both MiGs. That was a nice engagement!
Heading out for the final sortie.
Another million bugs spent to kill a trainer aircraft
I saved the other Phoenix for a high value target
Meanwhile Beach is inteferring with the battle of the rotors…
…and bombing some artilery
While I turn south to have an unfair joust with a Fulcrum
Since I’m out of Phoenix im glad I can tag team his wingman with one of our AI Mirages
I arrive just in time so that the MiG has to break the lock, which saves my little AI friend.
Meanwhile Beach is reenacting Behind Enemy Lines
By the way:
There is indeed a SA-6 site in Poti:
Those are great screens! So interesting to see all the things I didn’t see…
Don’t trust your TacViews too much. We learned that keeping things the same each time it’s run lets people get complacent…
How does updating the F10 map work? If I put eyeballs on the SA-6 site in Poti…(heck…it shot at me!)…why does it not appear on the F10 map from that point on? Or is that a server setting (visual recon? I never actually knew what that setting was…)
Fog of war setting in the mission. Technically, the F10 menu is a cheat :-). I think that the idea is that you bring a targeting pod, drop a mark point on it and come back :-).
With “fog of war” (I think?) checked, I’ve never been able to see anything on the map. In fact I usually keep the server’s HTML map up (if they offer one) for this very function. When I see something (it shows up on the server’s map). Rotor heads is a good example of this functionality.
Sorry. That answer may have been flippant. It can be configured by the mission designer to various degrees. This feels like a more ‘real’ setting and is, for sure, more challenging. A wingman makes it ‘easier’ (by being a second set of eyes and a distraction) but you (the general you) need to know the systems better to be able to respond quick and pick out the site. Then, getting a targeting pod somewhere near it allows you to get some lat/lon coordinates to come back for a strike.
Yeah…agreed…and my best memories were on one of those servers in a Ka-50 with no external views or F10 map or anything enabled. It was fun. BUT…I also realize I’d have a real E-2C guy screaming in my ear about MiGs and stuff. I could also envision a slow mover type (A-10) guy with a map on his knee or an iPad with a moving map jotting down notes on it. Actually…that would be a cool mod…the F10 map with a dry erase marker…
Even better…blow something up on the first pass and you have a smoke marker!
OR! Even better…get shot down…eject…and then you can walk over and put eyes on the target and walk other people onto it…!
