DCS New Map Announced - Kola Peninsula

Happy If You Say So GIF

I’m confused. When I first saw the announcement and the mention of ā€œnorth and westernā€ I thought maybe they’d be including Java/ Sumatra/ Indonesia- you know because F4U and Essex incoming. But just part of the coastal areas of Australia? I guess for training scenarios it’ll work…?

I’m wondering (hoping) this is a new dev doing something simple-ish to learn the tools, kinda like other aircraft devs have started with trainer aircraft to learn the SDK.

Well, Darwin was attacked…

What I was thinking as well, it’s generally quite sparsely populated, so you can probably cover a lot of ground with good orthophotography. WRT scenarios though, hmm…

So….ORBX is a Australian Company correct?? They’ve made their Bread and Butter selling parts of Australia for P3D,FSX,XPlane and MSFS….Yet…They’re making The Kola Peninsula Map…And A New Developer is going to be making a large portion of Australia….And yet The Community has been Asking,And Pleading for a South Asian/Vietnam Map to Match the Upcoming Aircraft that We’re expecting…??? WTF am I Missing Here?..I mean I’m super Happy that New Development is Happening….but Jesus….Can’t they see and Develop for The Popularity of The Community??

I am a through-and-through Hornet guy, so there are certainly training scenarios that I’ll be using this Australia map for, but from a sales & revenue perspective this seems like an odd choice.

I can see using it as a test bed for technology with data they have already paid for and know how to use.

That is actually a fair point.

F111 better be confirmed.

And though I like that straya is getting some love map wise. Unfortunately, the map isn’t exciting me. For me it’s becoming clear that we need to quickly move away from fully pre loaded small maps. Dcs in my opinion, needs to start map streaming so we can have decent map sizes.

For me and for some time now, with a2a refuelling and great carriers, the maps are feeling somewhat restrictive in size.

I think, Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia would make for a great theatre/s however having such a small chunk of oz and some ocean isn’t enough for me to scream ā€œgimme an f111ā€.

Don’t get me wrong, there is a valid case for ā€œthe more the betterā€. But I am not chucking a woody over it just yet. If it comes with an f111, I will buy it with the wife pension fund tomorrow!

Resuscitating this thread as ORBX posted the product page with a lot of good info and some nice screenshots.

(I couldn’t find a more recent thread about the Kola map)

The only concern I have is about it being installed via Orbx’s tool, and what that means for updates, consistent file locations, etc.
