Looking great!

Whatâs expected install size? Do I need to get a new hard drive for this?
Whelp! There they come, my new desktop backgrounds!
my heart is aching
its too beautiful âŠ
I hope it isnât only eye candy and single plane fun flying again.
To be honest: I expect it to be. If I am wrong I will be happy and post a huge âSorry!â message including teddy bears on the ED forums and here.
Those bombers arenât worth a dime if they donât act like ww2 bombers for example. The way bombing works right now is a bad joke.
Same if we donât have proper Flak, or ATC acting like they mean it.
Simulation environment means more than terrain and plane models, I hope DCSW finally improves in that regard.
DCS Normandy has to start somewhereâŠHaving a New 1944 Era Correct Map to fly over will be H U G E! ! ! !
In their defence, no simulator has good ATC support as of yet. Frankly they might as well leave it out instead of spending time on that.
It brings me physical pain to utter these words, butâŠ
Falcon 4 does.
Damn, well if nothing since has been able to do it then it probably requires a copious amount of time and money.
Thatâs speculation I canât comment on one way or the other.
I will say ATC that actually Cs AT would be nice.
The joke is that the creation of Falconâs dynamic campaign and environment directly resulted in MicroProseâs bankruptcy.
I think @Aginor is getting at a pretty critical point though. Raw content quantity is great but at the end of the day thatâs just a really fancy sandbox. The thing DCS desperately needs right now is context and immersion. Things like a better ATC, better AI, better weapons effect modeling, better sensor modeling (visual and E/O), and a collaboration / actual mission planning interface would make it leaps and bounds beyond where it is now.
Sure, rush Normandy out so we can have a proper arena for our warbirds, but I think our prophead brethren are going to discover thereâs currently something missing from DCS once you want to go further than flicking a few switches and doing a joyride.
Donât get me wrong- DCS is gorgeous right now and weâre only getting more toys, but I think Iâd like a more compelling environment to use them in.

Yeah I donât want to be mean either, I love DCSW and prefer it over every other sim, despite its flaws. Graphically and also regarding FMs it is great. It lacks other points important for a simulation though. It makes me kinda angry that it does some things quite a bit worse than the very first IL-2 or even Falcon 4. That sucks and prevents me from enjoying it the way Iâd like to.
Every year I hope theyâll finally fix it and then they do another graphics update and hardly anything else.
I wonder how many people really understand the amount of communication went on in WWII between ground and aircraft⊠I think some people have a skewed idea based on older games and sims.
I want to see quality ground controlled interception, and good quality comms with friendly aircraft. As far as ATC (Air Traffic Control) I think it was pretty limited compared to what I have seen in the past.
I think ED has a good handle on what it should look like, and maybe it wont be available day 1 for Normandy, I have confidence ED strives for as much realism as they and the sim engine can handle.
Well you can as GCI be a human controller. Happens often on the blue flag server. Problem is who wants to be a human controller generally.
Who wants to be RIO in general? Everyone wants to be Maverick or Iceman but front seats are limited.
There should be some in-game rule âIf you are not as great as Maverick/Iceman/âŠ, you are not allowed for the front seats!â.
Doesnât matter how much you paid for the module, this is not pay-to-win arcade ![]()
This way there will be plenty of ATCs, GCIs, RIOs, âŠ
Even offline, if you are not able to shoot the bad guys you will be sitting in the tower the whole campaign ![]()
But back to the Normandy, seems like my Pony will get some hours again⊠hopefully
I have read books about it, and so have others. I have even talked to ww2 pilots, and so have others. Still expecting too much? Maybe. But this is not only about ww2.
Yes, in ww2 it was limited, but in DCSW it is almost non functional right now, and has been for years, regardless of era. It has to improve.
And yes, all that stuff you wrote would also be nice to have or even necessary.
Edit: still looking forward to it.
Maybe theyâll surprise me.
Yes, but its already been stated that ATC for the modern end will be revamped (I think I can safely assume something will be done for WWII), it will need it for Carrier Ops and the Hornet. I donât agree that its almost non-functional, but it certainly needs some big love.
