Nope, just honestly unsure and curious what you meant. No need to get antsy.

When talking about the startup model, i meant exclusively ED’s inline engined warbirds, as the underlying slow run model appears to be the same or at least only slightly different. So my hope is that since the models (ideally) have similar interfaces as well as the effects, that the work involved porting this to other birds should not be too complicated.

Ah i see. IMHO that effect should remain reserved for overprimed piston engines, as such a bright orange, slow burning flame wouldn’t present itself in a jet engine unless it is completely shut down and there is residual fuel that is burning off.

But that’s not to say that there shouldn’t be a separate effect (effects) for jet engines.

The UH-1H and Mi-8 have something like that when starting, they both spit out a little flame that is yellow.

Scoffs

A little! You clearly never seens me starting the Huey up… Burning man festival, anyone?
Hohohoho! :imp:

Uncertain
Wait- flames ARE a good thing, right? Right?!

It makes you go faster in the huey and sideways in the hip

If you ever watch our King Airs start up at night you get a pretty good lick of flame out the exhaust stacks for a second or two…

Oh the cowl drain is not working? Enjoy the light show starting this baby up at night

I like how the new graphics for DCS are shaping, especially light and ocean effects but I have a request that I think would make them nail it.

I have watched pretty much all videos about normandy map out there and even in the maxed out ones (so nothing to do with the settings config) the way the sun reflects into the sea looks odd to me. I mean that only the own sun and its round shape are being reflected into the seas surface. This would only happen when the sun is very high in the sky (directly in your vertical) but with the sun lower in the sky there should be more that only the sun dish being reflected.

It should look like a long white strip with golden-reddish edges that lost intesnsity in its shine as you fly higher. This would add a great feeling of life to the sea and would be the icing on the cake.

To make it clearer, according to videos, this is how it looks:

And this is how it is irl (sorry, not the best images to show this but couldnt find better ones):

Of course, at dusk and dawn, it looks correct, as the sun is lower in the sky. Im not sure what might be the technical reason why this is happening in DCS, maybe someone can explain it but I guess its because the water is not reflecting the sky and thus the big halo of the sun that descend vertically from the sun to the horizon is not being rendered into seas surface and so only the suns dish can be reflected, but surely, the reflect should be wider and longer, extending to the horizons edge.

SO, please ED!!, add this feature and you will have no doubt the best water rendering out there!

EDIT: I think this is probably due also because there is something wrong with the earth model. I remember reading somewhere that DCS uses a round earth model but if thats the case, then, the reflection of the sun in the sea shouldnt be circular unless being directly under the vertical of the sun. Also, the distance of the sun from the earth should be a factor and the reason why even with the sun very high in the sky (but not in the vertical) still producing a very long ond oval reflection, but that’s just a guess of mine, I would love if someone with real knoledge could give us some explanation about this.

I made a vulgar PS edit to the first picture to better show how I think (more or less  ) it could look:

Also, I found other images showing off this thing:

Imagine looking at the backlight side of the sea with this effect looking for contacts or ships helped by the high contrast of the reflected light :scream:

Might I venture a word of caution here? We might want to get some these expectations into check a little. and I apologize if my enthusiasm for the changes in DCS World 2.1 are coming off strong.

This is still a game that needs to run on an above average PC with current graphic hardware. The lighting engine is almost an order of magnitude better than it was but it still is not going to match what Mother Nature and that ball of fire in the sky, that I call Mr. Sun, can provide. I do not want our efforts to provide a wow factor to start over doing itself and taking on a life of it’s own :-).

There is, and there will always be, room for improvement. I am sure that the coder(s) working on this engine would look longingly on the pictures that you posted and whisper to themselves ‘Some day…’ as they look toward the future.

At, roughly 31,000 feet, here is what it looks like in game at 5:30PM, 1 June 2016:

This is really from in game with current build? I am not sure if it is just me but, that does not look anything like I would expect it too. I mean, I can’t be the only one looking at this screenshot thinking “this is how it is supposed to look?” Am I?. It looks like a wall with a bad cloud mural sponge painted on it with a nice plane decal stuck on it then someone pointed a flashlight at the wall and took a pic.

I know, WIP and all, but this seems like a different env altogether than what it is like down low. In the sense that the actual game engine looks like it is not ready for high altitudes yet.

Maybe it is just this particular pic you chose, but those clouds are one solid color. Clouds usually have a bit of variation, and some detail, even if one color.

I do not think that clouds have been touched since 1.5 (or earlier) but I may be mistaken. I was not surprised to see the clouds looking like they are. It is one of those items on the wish list that i know that they will get to in time.

This was also not on the latest build (available to testers) but was on the latest Alpha build available to reviewers and those who contributed to the kickstarter at the level that granted alpha access.

However, again, i caution against expecting too much. A lot has changed and i am both happy with the changes and with the progress being made. This is a long road and i think that this shows progress and promise.

Oh my surprise was hopefully conveyed. I have seen for the most part nothing but beautiful shots so far and the vids have looked really nice as well, and if those look good, I imagine even better in person. But this shot just seems like a culmination of bad things colliding at once in terms of environmental look. The plane is gorgeous for sure and looks almost out of place in that sky, at least in that particular shot. I am looking forward to checking it out myself when released. I am sure things are looking even better now with more time and work being done on it certainly as well.

Just that pic man…whew…lol.

Yeah, X-Plane 10 has that same ball of reflected sun which followed me from KPDK to Rio during the Olympics LOL. Have not seen it yet in XP11. Not a deal breaker for either sim regardless.

Yes, the lighting on the clouds seems off when comparing it to how the entire scene is lit. But as others have mentioned, that is just a miniscule aspect of the entire sim, surely the world will not end because of it.

Clouds are supposedly WIP, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

@Fridge, my friend, you gotta pimp your shadow settings.

I agree, not world ending at all…lol. Just was taken aback by that screenshot is all. After so many beauties posted, but all been mostly low level it seems to then see that seemed like something was very wrong. I am sure improvements and tweaks are in full effect and are already in the pipeline. Very much looking forward to it for sure.
