Super purdy

Another flight on Kola, with an A-4. This time mostly over the ‘unfinished’ area, from Bodo to a carrier waiting North, to Lakselv. I mostly stayed high at 5-10k feet, but at times went for a fjord run

Amazing shots @TeTeT.

More Kola porn. This map may not be fleshed out yet, but it has so much potential.

I noticed they use these high res asphalt textures like in the last pic quite a lot and I have a feeling they’re the main culprit for terrible performance in VR because they’re the only constant in lacations with bad to outright abysmal performance (e.g. parking spots on the road base in Finland). And on top of that they look awful- way too clean and shiny, completely out of place. Even if that was fresh asphalt - it shouldn’t look so clean and uniform.

In VR, I notice that when I run Skate’s Updater VR preset, I get a pretty solid 72 fps, but it looks abysmal. I took the above screens with it using one of the high end presets in VR and my fps went to 18-21 on my RTX4080 Super

I fully agree. Somehow the terrain is very attractive, hope we’ll get more updates in a reliable pace. For now I’m happy with my purchase, spent quite a few hours on Kola already!

The lighting with the rain showers looks amazing. Nice screenshots :+1:t3:

I just tried it. Damn, it’s a hellish thing, but at least flying Apache after it felt easy as pie, though I still often end up in VRS and crash :joy:

Took me a few days to get her under control. Now I can takeoff and land reasonably well. Zipping around at low level is a blast. Make sure you downloaded the latest v1.1 update.

Based on a post on their Discord, I lowered roll saturation to 50% and pitch to 65% (no curve), setting the dead zone to 2 for both (I have a curved stick 200mm extension). I’m still messing yaw axis. I tried raising the saturation and adding a curve, but not completely happy with it. I also feel like the collective axis needs a curve, similar to the Huey. But once you get through ETL, it’s a pretty smooth flyer. Weight really affects the feel. A lightly loaded bird, say minigun and 70% fuel only, flies much easier than a heavy one. A MTOW bird is really sluggish handling, as it should be on the Loach. The current AH-6 and MH-6 Little Birds have much more power, more main and tail rotor blades, and refined aerodynamic airframes. So are somewhat different animals.

But as @will2360 said, with some stick time, your confidence and ability grow quickly. I’ve been flying it almost every day since release and IMHO, the low level stick and rudder experience is among the best in DCS. The biggest challenge for me is the abrupt transition from right pedal to left pedal as you slow from forward flight to taxi and hover. I’ve learned to be ready for it, but it still gets me every now and then.

Hoping the same for the Kiowa Warrior, although I expect it to feel heavier and more stable.
