Made my first trap today on the second try. First was a bolter. Man, that torque is tricky late in the grove. Does anyone know if they are working on a period correct deck crew?

Another day of a bit of roleplaying for my MiG career  The art for this module (music, main menu and loading screen) really brings me back to the days when this thing was the hottest stuff you could get in DCS. Even after 11 years, it’s still about the best, strongest and most modern redfor fighter you can get if you can excuse the mighty Yak-52 or the Jeff which I feel is more reserved for himalayan conflicts, geographically. When we get our Fulcrum, that will finally change. What I really like about doing these ‘careers’ were you hop up to better airframes is really feeling what sort of improvements were made. Come down from a 4th gen and the fishbed feels old. Come up from a farmer and the autopilot relief, capable selection of missiles and the 30km radar range feels amazing.

I suppose I felt like pretending my MiG was a SPS-K variant today, with only 2 hardpoints and the gun. East germany had a few MiG-21BiS of SAU and Lazur subtypes, so I didn’t need to handicap myself like this.

Leatherneck custom-built the navigation for the Fishbed which was amazing for its time. But unfortunately that means it must be custom built for every map. There’s no navigation data for germany yet and I have to rely on the GCI guy to talk me to the target and back home.

Coming up for the target (The GCI guy was a bit sleepy so I ended up a few km behind the target).

Dropping the bag.

Using the fixed beam to get only ranging data. In DCS that means I don’t have to meddle with the ECM of the target. When the needle comes down from 2000 meters, I release my missile.

There wasn’t enough time for the countermeasures to do anything.

Had the GCI talk me home

actually managed a decent field landing … will do a few more then try the boat :scream:

eneded up by putting some decent curves and de-saturating the roll and pitch, but she still seems to have a mind of her own… was raising flaps after takeoff and she just suddenly rolled to the right …

The flap behavior is really weird. I get a ton of roll when shifting from 20deg flaps to 10deg flaps specifically. But never between other increments and never when in the reverse.

Do they rise asymmetrically ….like some landing gear

Do you have an axis mapped to both flap and roll, perhaps?
Does this happen if you increase the speed a little, before raising flaps? Could be a wingdrop due to a partial stall.

They shouldn’t, though I haven’t checked the replay tracks to see. If it’s to the right I think it might be a trim issue. On CV takeoffs I have 5-6 degrees of right aileron trim dialed in, and by the time I pull in the flaps I’ve brought power down from MIL to max or min continuous. The reduction in torque probably has something to do with it but it still confuses me how it only happens when going from 20 to 10. and never from 30 to 20 or from 10 to 0.

Not mapped to an axis …and thought my speed was high enough to avoid the stall …

Not sure about trim …it was a hot start from an airfield …all I set up was:
Unfold wings
Set full flaps (quite heavy load)
Forgot anything about take off trim
Eased up throttle and rpm
Released brakes
Rolled, rotated
Got positive rate of ascent
Raised gear
Raised flaps and instant right roll as the flaps were nearly fully retracted

That’s definitely weird, I would expect left roll if you’re too slow. Haven’t experienced this myself, even when taking off with a full bomb and rocket load

Our Squadrons’ very own elephant walk (kind of, more Vipers would be nice xD)
