DCS Super Carrier, or how Will learned to love skittles of all the wrong colours

I got home and started downloading. By the time I had it done I only had an hour to play. So off I went to the multiplayer. This is my new vice. Been having a ball and cant wait to fly w y’all. I’m having a 3 day weekend starting today. So I am soaking up all the knowledge in this thread. Cant wait!

Supercarrier downloaded and installed!
Tried a quick Case1 recovery in the Hornet.
Impressive!
I thought that many object would kill the FPS, but that’s not the case.

I’m having trouble with comms in the Hornet. Isn’t it the ”Communications Menu” command one should use to call up the comms list?

I just use the radio ptt to get the relevant comms. Radio 1 is tuned to 127.500 on preset 1

I’m glad I’m not the only one! But this does give us something to work toward, right? I mean, when we start getting OK three’s all the time, we will know we earned them. I am very rusty, but getting better.

That will only work if you’re using “easy communications” in your settings. Otherwise, what @Cib said below.

Ah yes, GW!

I’ve been aboard her at sea twice in RL and now…

…seems like she doesn’t want to let me go. :anguished:

Seriously…I hit the deck and go to MIL, caught a wire so back to idle, lights off, wait for the roll back then up hook, fold wings and goose the power to get out of the landing area…except the hook never dropped the wire…thoughts?

So an update on my VR performance with Super Carrier. Shadows are the killer. I’ve had it set to “Low”. Moved it to “Flat” (object shadows) and a noticeable improvement. Makes sense, relatively speaking.

I had this happen with the Stennis previously. No idea why. Had to keep ‘jiggling’ it (hook up/down, power forward/idle, any any combo of those). Sometimes it would Let Go if I turned. My hope was either they fixed it or I figured out what I did wrong. Not seen it yet with SC (though only 3 traps so far)

I’ve had that happen too. It’s not common but when it did happen I was unable to unstick it.

So this was my grade for the pass…I think…

Lots of writing…2 Wire…so good? :grimacing:

Thanks. I’ll give it a try. VR performance is really poor near / on the deck.

The C in the front is a CUT PASS. Unsafe. Sorry, I’m in that club too. Although, I’m getting better with a lot of — (no grade) always with the EGIW.

The rest is (you can decode all this in the super carrier manual):
DRX - Drift right at the start
FX - Fast at start
DRIM – Drift right in middle
(LURIM) – lined up slightly right in the middle
LOIC - Low in close
PP – power power
PIC - Power in close
PPPIC – POWER! POWER! POWER! in close
I think the next on is 3PTSIC – which doesn’t make sense: 3 point landing in close?

and my old pal: EGIW – eased Gun in the wires. I’m suspicious of this one; as I grew more suspicious I made it a point to not even touch the throttle until going Mil in the wires and I still get it. I’m going to go make a new pilot and experiment to see if it is “stuck” from a previous grade.

[BC] I think means you didn’t call the ball. I’ve gotten this too, when I know I made the call.

I havent tried in VR yet, but I noticed when the deck is wet, it cut my frames in half. Probably some optimizing needs to be done. Also if you zoom out from the ship, everything goes back to normal. So seems to be related to LOD stuff. Looks great though.

Is a low ball really supposed to be obscured by stuff?

Probably not, because AFAIR, it’s very, VERY rare to have Cat 4 in service for launching at the same time you’re doing recoveries. It’s likely you’d have a hard time staying clear of the foul line if you were on that cat or in line for it, after all.

But the problem is that it those inflatable lifeboats obscure the ball

Is it obscured from the pilot seat? Because that’s the only angle that matters. The angle of that screenshot is hard to tell if it is on the same axis.

Well the plane is flying a centered ball. But if I were flying a low ball such as from this view angle, I obviously would not be able to see it.

I guess what I’m saying is, youd probably have to be striking the ramp to see the ball that low at that close and be obscured. Could be off though, just an observation.
