Is there a Syria FAQ or Syrias Map section on the ED Forums? I couldn’t find one. I’ve got a question that really should go to ED.

Ahhhhh! “Third Part Licensed Products”…that’s right, its from Ugra!

I never would have figured that out. Thanks! :slightly_smiling_face:

Does the Syria map also include Syria factions with proper paint schemes for their military vehicles - or is that something I would need to download separately? (I suppose I can go into the Mission Editor and answer this question myself…)

I just finished the included Mi-8 mission. Fun and simple. I had to break out Google to search for videos on how to use the ARK radio. The Mi-8 is so much fun to fly…but what a systems nightmare in the cockpit.

My assumption is that these are tank revetments in the Syria map…is that a correct guess? If so, are they not a slight bit too tall…? I would think they’d be slightly sloped to allow for the tank to eventually poke its turret out to fire before backing down slightly to get back under cover. Anyone know if they actually provide protection? I’ll test all of this…but was wondering if anyone had already done it…

Good question

All the sovereign states present on the map are represented in DCS, as well as numerous states closeby that could play a role in any virtual conflict. Their roster of vehicles seem accurate (other than models that are missing from the simulator). It seems to be hit-and-miss regarding to accurate skins. A number of nations don’t seem to have specific skins at all ( i.e. Lebanon, with no skins available for its fleet of Hueys and Gazelles) while others are pretty well decked such as Israel.

None of the many paramilitary organizations that are present in this region seem to have a representation in DCS. No ISIS/ISIL, no FSA, no Kurds, no Hezbollah, no SDF, no YPG or other organization that I know of.

I personally flew the new Su-27 mission was released. I found the voice acting hilarious! (I saw that it was quite a hit on hoggit as well) luckily the mission itself was not very hard to fly because my flanker flying is very rusty.

Also i stuck an SA8 in a berm and the hornets i had on SEAD could not kill it. Good protection and it can still get its missiles off

Well, the berm is no match for the 120mm APFSDS round!

Actually…it looks like the mid to bottom part of the berm does provide some protection…the upper 1/3 portion can be penetrated…which stands to reason I suppose…

The ones around the airfields are intended for the SAM systems, but tanks will do!

They are also really good anti-Harrier takeoff obstacles… Testing to see what kind of load I can get out of the short field helo base like the ones at Marj as Sultan… Who do I see about cutting down that light pole?

Nice to see the walls are destructable too…!

You seem to be spending a lot of time on fire…

I’m dedicated to my testing…!

I think I’ve determined the maximum takeoff weight for those helo FARPS…including carrying the weight of the second pair of underwear… :poo:

Might want to petition the powers that be for a ski ramp.

I am curious what you guys can get out of there with - rules:

  1. Must start takeoff roll from the “runway” surface proper - no dirt taxiing or running takeoffs from a parking area.

  2. No wind.

  3. Takeoff H2O only (not landing…not sure if the landing H2O gives more thrust or not?)

  4. 29.92" and 20C on temperature.

  5. Combat Thrust switch setting allowed.

My technique was to go to the very end of the runway, offset slightly to avoid the tank berm, H2O to TO, nozzles 0, full power, release brakes. Upon acceleration and nearing the end of the runway, nozzles about 50 to pop up, go over the wall, then start easing the nozzles back to accelerate.

I found about 25,500 lbs. was about the best I could reliably take…so rockets, 6 bombs, and 60% fuel or so…

With Combat Thrust I could manage about 28,000 lbs…so rockets, 6 bombs, and 92% fuel…

It has been my observation that the Army Corps of Engineers will construct pretty much anything on the sly given enough pallets of beer…

Sounds like you need to go light on the fuel and hit a tanker just after takeoff. As I seem to recall they did that with the B-52’s during Vietnam, may well still do it for all I know, so they could carry more ordnance.

That’s one payload you can’t selectively jettison, but the emergency mode is…automatic.
