Dipping my toes in the VR pool, what to get?

Pavlov is another VR shooter worth playing around with. As well as Boneworks, and Walking Dead.

Played 'em all. IMO, Onward is king of the hill. Pavlov is good too but Boneworks and Walking Dead? Meh. Contractors is also a good one …

Different strokes, I wasn’t a huge fan of Onward but will have to try it again sometime if I ever get back into VR shooters.

Another one that’s pretty cool is Zero Caliber.

For sure. I’m a simulation enthusiast so I have zero time for the more arcadey titles like Zero Caliber.

I always say VR is great for flying, shooting and driving! All my favorite stuff! :smiley: I ran a whole rally driving tournament here at Mudspike in VR alone with DiRT Rally 2.0 … another must have if you’re into rally driving …

Also, for the tactical shooting side of things, another important piece of VR gear for me is my surround sound headset for directional awareness.

Mine too :wink:

+1 for DiRT Rally 2.0… Also Project Cars 2 and Assetto Corso. I can’t play these without VR anymore :grinning:

I haven’t played any VR shooters, but for 35 Aussie Pesos, I might have to give Onward a try?

Yup! Onward is the best MilSim VR shooter out there. Project Cars 2 and Assetto Corsa are another two shining examples of VR awesomeness!

I can’t even fathom the time zone difference between me in Toronto, Canada and you in the Outback LOL! Hey, if you’ve got the bandwidth, I’ve got the time for Onward coop. :slight_smile:

@Elby

lmao, yeah. At least one of us would be suffering sleep deprivation… but that would add to the realism :stuck_out_tongue:

I have the bandwidth (Ka band satellite), but because it is GEO latency is a PITA. How does Onward cope with lag - I get 650ms on a good day?

“get 650ms on a good day”
Oof…

An interesting development for Quest and PCVR…

@Svsmokey

Yeah, that’s why it is pretty much ‘single player only’ for me :frowning:

Mid to late 2023? Aw! I was led to believe the Quest 3 was dropping in October LOL! Only the announcement is dropping. :slight_smile: I was surprised to hear that this guy (who needs subtitles on by default in his vids) uses Virtual Desktop for Quest 2/PC gaming instead of Link?! He says the Link quality is poorer than Virtual Desktop. My Link thing broke a long time ago so I found this news to be pretty good since I also use Virtual Desktop. :+1:

I figured just re-animating this thread was better than starting a new one. I’m going to pull the trigger on a quest 2, amazon has them on sale currently. For the cable to connect to my PC, is there anything specific it needs to be (USB C to USB C, USB C to USB A 3.0, etc)? I might wait a week or two and get it on prime day, but it’s sitting in my cart right now at least.

If you have usb c on your pc then that’s what to go with, ideally it would be s usb c to usb c. If you can get one with a 90 degree plug on one end … it makes life easier on headset end … also you don’t need to go for the quests own one tihey are bloody expensive ( when I looked it was about £80) you just need s good quality fast transfer one, you can get them from Amazon in about the £20 range …can’t remember the specific one I got … but once you go vr that’s it … you can never go back :grinning::grinning::grinning:

Quest 3 is due out Sep 27 if any issues and you can wait.

For the $500 price tag, I’m probably going to stay with the 2. Though I might wait a bit and see fi the price on the 2 drops. Prime day is in less than 2 weeks, so I might hold off and see what kind of deal Amazon runs.

I’ve had the Quest 2 for a couple of years. Love it. Works out the box with no need to fuddle with separate apps, mods or workarounds. Display is good enough but for the last couple of years, better is out there. Anyway, I wouldn’t own it for this long if I wasn’t happy. Recently though I’ve found it to be wildly uncomfortable after an hour. What changed? Don’t know. A baseball cap helps. As would the extras available for (which @Harry_Bumcrack had for sale a month or two ago).

Yep, just wanted to check you knew it was coming. 30% better resolution but more expensive given that they will aggressively try to dump Q2 stock before then. You could get a bargain.

I’m pretty sure that was @Johnny

As far as VR goes, I have only ever had a Reverb G2. I have been happy with it despite some of the ‘fussiness’ and when they were released, the price compared to other comparable headsets made it a no-brainer.

Do you wear the cap backwards under the Quest strap?
