I was mucking up the handbrake and I wasn’t about to try and flick it around just yet
It vastly depends on the car.
In a FWD car you use the handbrake, in a RWD car you drift using a low gear and the throttle, and in an AWD car… I don’t really know actually. Similar to a RWD car I think.
Using handbrake for tight corners is critical for quickly getting through those corners. That said, it makes the most difference when people are driving at ten tenth. At our skill level, it will be helpful, but if you’re not running the stage at max speed, then using handbrake might cause more flub ups than being helpful. Ymmv
I’m very much using the “Over the river and through the woods…to Grandmother’s house we go…” technique of getting through hairpins. Photographers start to quake in fear as I approach those turns…
It’s used a lot, IMHO. I have one, but haven’t figured how to mount the damn thing. Need to fly @Troll engineering in to get some assistance I suppose. So using a button right now, which is on my G29 (just swapped out from the G27). Not the best location. It needs to be off of the wheel so that you can steer with one hand while modulating the handbrake with the other. It’s really hard to find that button on the wheel when you have it cranked in a turn. A switch is momentary of course, but you can just tap it a time or two to emulate an axis input.
Meanwhile…me…
there are video’s out there to rig a handbrake from a flight stick and i’m assuming there are more than a few of us out there with a spare stick or two to experiment. My guess is you want to just add a gate to restrict left/right movement.
I use a button atm, but I use one that is on the wheel and depending on how hard a turn, I can lose it, which is what happened a few times on me here.
I didnt realize that Dirtfish place was real. Props to Codemasters. Liking this game more and more. Still my favorite part of this game is the audio. The engine and environment noises are some of the best I’ve heard in a car game.
Me neither, that’s cool!
Yeah me too. It works but not ideal.
Nice drive Keets! You were thrashing that thing within an inch of its life.
Here is the first successful capture that I grabbed from OBS last night. It’s not a particularly smooth drive, given how tired I was and the fact that I had never driven the stage or the car. Not on snow in a while either. Still, the R5 cars in Sweden? Please.
The usual “it’s not soup yet” disclaimer applies. Still at 360p at the last check. I’ve been thinking about how to solve the replay in VR issue. I want to try setting my headset on the floor with something blocking the sensor, pressing the view reset button, and adding a new cropped profile in OBS. Or, crop it in post. Still learning Resolve, but I bet that’s not difficult.
A lot will depend on how much momentum you have going into a corner. I’ve tried a scandi flick, but if you’re too slow into the corner found the car understeers and you go straight on.
To go round a hairpin fast you need oversteer, which is why the handbrake is used, particularly on a FWD car.
As soon as you have oversteer you can feather the throttle to either tighten or slacken the turn.
I still hate hairpins at the minute.
Man you are fast!
I think in general most of these ones are too tight a turn to make it worth trying anyway.
If I do have one area where I feel DR1 is better than DR2 it’s in being able to feel which tires are loaded.
I can’t quite feel it as well in this one compared to the last one
Like this one here, I could feel in the wheel, but not in the new one
Not sure what happened, but the video that I uploaded is 1080p. Is there some switch to toggle HD? It’s still showing SD on YouTube. Thanks.
Changed it to Unlisted which solved the issue.
it takes awhile sometimes. Mine was uploaded in either 2k or 4k, last time I did that it took 10 months for the those resolutions to show up
Yeah, I’ve only felt comfortable doing this if my co-driver says “hairpin open”. I did one in the previous stage which felt awesome, but all others I may as well be Shaggy on roller skates.
Keets, this is not meant to be a quip, rather more of a compliment really. But, are you driving with a gamepad? It looks like in the replay that the wheel is snapping back to center a lot. Might be how the replay engine shows it. I’m prepared to be further impressed.
No, Logitech momo steering wheel.
