Listening to you blokes chat, I fear that the only thing I will be ripping is sheet metal and carbon fiber. Hoping to get cut loose from my ball and chain (work) in about an hour.
Well, I really thought you had me @keets . Beginning of Stage 5 I manged to run face first into a rock wall. Slow speed so little damage done, but dropped me about 5 seconds down by the first split. Manged to recover a bit but was still 3 seconds off your pace. Total time was 9 seconds down on you going into the final stage.
Took a new set of soft tires (not really sure if they’re that much faster than mediums) and got rid of the spare, figuring I needed to go all out. Started Stage 6 and I again ran face first into a rock wall. Drove like a madman from then on gently bouncing off the walls most of the way, but was only 3 seconds up at the final split, against the total deficit of 9 seconds. Figured I would have to settle for second and kind of went into a zen mode. Somehow managed to end the stage 14 seconds up; overall time was 5 seconds ahead.
You must have had an incident in the last sector, or you would have had me for sure. Well driven mate, you pushed me right to the end. I just didn’t have much of an answer to your raw speed.
You’re up @chipwich, show us what ya got!
Next up is the start of the Alt league. This is awesome fun. Thanks again @Mudcat!
So that was mean Mudcat. Got through 1.5 stages of hurtling off Scottish cliffs that I couldn’t see because of all the rain before my car decided it had had enough. Guess I am waiting until Thursday for new rally stages.
If you thought Argentina would be a race of attrition, it’s got nothing on Scotland. I will be surprised if anyone finishes. Good luck!
I was being careful and didn’t even make it through the first stage. oi, well guess some general practice for me tonight. That was brutal.
I didn’t mind Argentina too much tbh, the course is laid out a lot like Greece, but with the damn sheer faces in Monte Carlo.
At least I couldn’t get stuck in a ditch and plow into a downed tree that way.
I got nothin’.
Argentina was a ■■■■■■■! Except for stage 2 I thought it would open up at one point but NO. Stages 3 and 5 I also got stuck on a wall. Lame excuse though. 50 pushups and may I have another Sir. Hats off to Roo and Keets, who seem to thrive in the rough.
The great thing about it though, for an hour or so, I didn’t think of the virus once. Thanks @Mudcat!
Great write up of your last two stages.
I’m not sure if I like the chase or setting the pace. I think I prefer knowing what I’ve got to do, but that adds pressure in itself.
When I did the last two stages I was thinking with each mistake, going slightly to fast when I needed to be slower or slower when I could have gone faster, that you and @chipwich would gain time.
You’re right I did have an incident in the last sector of the final stage. In the hairpins I punctured the back right tyre. Initially it was ok, but there was a fast left hand turn after the hairpins finished, which I couldn’t counter the oversteer and ended up facing the wrong way. I did ease off a bit for the remaining left handers as the tyre came off the rim, but overall I don’t think that made too much of difference.
Great driving @Roo , we both made mistakes and took penalties and could have gone faster. I learnt a lot driving through the tight rocks. I’ve seen mountain bike trails wider, it’s interesting switching to the Scottish highlands afterwards, the corners seem soooo wide.
Starting the first stage, I wasn’t sure of the course, but in the end I really enjoyed the challenge and competition of this rally.
Over to you @chipwich. No pressure.
Edit: just seen you didn’t fair so well. Bad luck and on to the next one. I think you’ll enjoy that one. You’re spot on BTW, whilst doing this, for an hour I didn’t think of anything about Coronavirus.
April Fools?
“If I am totally honest, we are finding it more difficult in training the drivers to be able to read the co-drivers’ pace notes."
Oh dear. Fell off that bridge on the beginning of Stage 5. Is there a mod where I can fly the camera helicopter?
Rally announcement alert
Also since no one made it through stage 3 alive, I’m going to restart the alt league season. if no one objects that is. I have made adjustments and restarted the alt league, same schedule as before, there are some longer stages stacked together, but for the most part I made major adjustments to repairs ( Perth and Kinross is still full on rain all the time, but with repair chances after every single stage there)
I haven’t done Argentina yet, so I have that to look forward to, but Baumholder is no push over either. Those hinkelstones are outright dangerous.
Good call!
I’ll gladly try again.
Thanks Mudcat! I almost wanted to ask for a restart, but I didn’t want to sound like a whiny 5 year old (Mummy, I just broke my new toy after 5 minutes, buy me another one!).
Looking forward to a second, much slower and more restrained, crack at it.
Woohoo a redo in the alt league! Maybe I will go a little slower!
Germany will be fun too!
Help…I’m still under the bridge in Argentina…
I’ve yet to finish so if you’d like to set off a flare as I go past I can give you a wave.
No matter what is said in a Darth Vader meme I ALWAYS hear it in James Earl Jones’s voice.
Wheels
Made it! (Scotland that is)
No worries my time is eaaaasy to beat as long as you finish. I had a whole long stage (4 or 5 IIRC) where I repaired one tire but two had been damaged at the same time, right in the beginning. So that one took me ages AND the penalty.
But hey, I did finish the rally at least, and it sure was useful training. Looking forward to see your times.
I’ll shortly upload a video of my stage 10 attempt, which was…somewhat OK I guess.
