I sent a Steam friend request to your Chipwich account @chipwich I think when that steam friends invite dialog comes up it will only show friends who are currently in DR2. We could give it a quick try later … I’d like to try it in 2D (not VR).

Accepted. Looks like the invites should go to the Profile name and not the login name.

Saghen, since you expressed interest in RX, I’m replying to your earlier post. Elby and I have determined that to run a Private race, either RX (or traditional rally), you have to be friends with the Steam Profile for the host to invite you to the RX. So, we need everyone’s Steam gamer tag. Mine is, drum roll please, Chipwich. So far, I’m Steam friends with Elby and Keets.

Another thing that Elby and I discovered is that whether you run a full weekend or single race, there is no practice. So, if we were going to run a full “weekend” of two circuits, we would need to post those during the week before so that drivers good practice, pick a car, and tune if desired before the meeting.

Now for the timing, I suppose that it depends on which time zone that most drivers are located and then decide on the best compromise. Maybe Sunday is better than Saturday, due to (I almost said kids sports) home improvement projects planned. I’m thinking run these once a month. What say you?

I have no clue if I

  • like rallycross
  • am any good at rallycross
  • will find the time to do rallycross with y’all

I’ll do some testing with AI or so and report back. I think I am not made for head to head racing, but I’ll try.
If I like it I will try to join you.

Aginor, the AI are crazy fast, so don’t get discouraged if they run away. Elby and I got our asses kicked yesterday by the AI, so that’s why we were interested in setting up a Private race at this point. The Supercars are really fun to drive, but there is definitely a skill to it. When the tires are warm, even when you are sliding, sometime it’s best to add power, which is counter to what your brain tells you. For me, it’s hugely entertaining, but I wouldn’t want to give up traditional rally for it. Love having it as another option. If you have PCars 2, the AI is much easier to beat. So, you could start there as a confidence builder.

If they are anything like the first one, the AI isn’t fast so much as you absolutely have to tune the cars to be competitive on most/all the tracks with the AI

I have not done any rallying because of lack of interest but because I am busy.

I am trying to get to grips with Photogrammetry and have taken some 1000 pics in 5 different sessions and are now getting some usefull results, but they still need a lot of cleaning.

That cleaning takes a lot of time but it is worth it.

I still need to turn it over and take another about 200 pics to get the rest of the details, but now everything is set up so it should work.

If anyone wonders, it is a Gunners grip from a Danish Leopard 1A5-DK MBT

I’ll join you on the bench then @Mudcat.

I was flying on the first stage by midway when I missed a “1 left” call. I swear I could see the “right” turn and my brain obviously knew what I’d heard just as I slammed into the concrete and hay bales at 90mph.

Sheepishly turning to my co-driver I said “I see, you meant my other right”.

I’ve been having trouble with calls lately too. Had to make them earlier and earlier but a lot of times the call is still way too late for me to set up for it, half the time it is me looking ahead and not depending on the co-driver that gets me through.

I think Baumholder suffers from this a little more than others, particularly on the right then left combinations where the first turn is quicker. The co-driver can’t get the calls out quick enough and I’m accelerating away by the time he tells me about the 2 left.

That wasn’t my issue though, it was a poor driving / “oh fudge” moment. You do see this in RL rallying as well, at least thats my excuse.

The penalties there too are a bit excessive and weird. I get caught every single time there is a a 6 left and a quick 1 right that leads to a long straight away . I cut in between a big stone block and trees, the cut is real small, but they give you a sizable penalty for doing it. I’m just grumpy cause i’ve twice now flubbed my favorite track

My impression as well.

I did the same thing! I drove around the barriers and right when I was getting back on track, it “recovered” the car. Frustrating but funny, because this was like 0130 in the AM. I had such a horrible Rally Wales, that I needed a cleansing in Germany

RE Wales, the BMW had me absolutely flummoxed for about 8 stages. What it was doing is if I came off the gas in 1st or 2nd gear, the rear end would come right around regardless of input. I had forgotten about engine drag locking the rear diff in the slick stuff. What an oaf was I. Probably did this about 20 times. Would be in a square or hairpin turn and with the slight steering input, I would be in a pirouette in a nanosecond. Congrats to @Aginor for mastering the BMW and getting on the podium for the second consecutive rally.

Wales is over and finished

9 racers entered
9 finished
6 still running by the end

@Roo with another win
@keets takes 2nd
@Aginor takes 3rd

I have reconfigured the final championship.

April 22 - 27
Finland / F2 Kit Car

April 27 - May 2
New England / 4WD up to 2000 cc

May 2 - 7
Greece / Group B (RWD)

May 7 - 12
Hawkes Bay / H2 (RWD)

I swapped Monaco for New England and Scotland for New Zealand along with the R5’s for H2 (RWD), yes it’s more RWD cars, but this gets every class covered.

The rally’s are all for 5 days. If you want extra races, the Alt Rally’s are always available as well.

Wales? Honestly I really did enjoy it but boy was I crap. The worse bit was that section with the 2 water splashes. I don’t think anyone could possibly do more spins or pirouettes in such a short area as I did every time I encountered it. I think I would have been quicker driving that section in reverse.

Great laugh though.

Congrats @Roo, I thought I might hold out, but then saw your times eating in to mine. What happened on Stage 11??

Looking forward to the next one. :slightly_smiling_face:

Congrats, @roo! Awesome time!

Meanwhile I finished Baumholder.
No luck for me, well except that I finished and had, like, one good stage.

Notes:

  • There is a 1 left that the co-driver doesn’t mention at all
  • There is a turn or two that should really have a “don’t” cut
  • I destroyed my radiator early in stages 4 and 7 which made me drive grandma mode in stages 4,5,6,7,8,9 and still the engine almost quit on me. Made it barely.
  • I somehow cannot get used to Baumholder, not sure why.
  • Edit: Oh, and I had three flat tyres…

I crashed into some damn booth. And I spun the car in the same turn turing another stage but missed the booth that time.

Overall… meh. Don’t like that rally, and I am sure I wasn’t really fast.
Will post videos soon.

Here is my beautiful spin and crash. That turn always gets me, it is much sharper than the callout suggests.
