it’s actually driving the other way, the one at the bottom of the hill, it’s bad enough I don’t even try and stay on the road and just jump into the grass and pass it to the right of the posts.
I can’t help it, I’m like a magnet for any kind of post on the side of the roads, no issue with bridges, but I can’t pass a post without running it over, or at least attempting to.
Just a reminder, that I’ll be hosting a “test” DiRT Rally 2 rallycross race or two at 1700 EDT, 2100 GMT tonight 18 April 20, to see if hosting while driving is viable. Very casual, what does this button do sort of event.

Thanks Aginor. Just did that and it looks like it did keep the time and correctly sent me to Stage 2. Whew, was nervous on that one. Guess Racenet got into a weird loop where it was trying to upload the time, but it was already on the server? Thanks for the tip!
Just finished up Australia. Had a couple of Racenet hiccoughs, but they were only one offs this time. Interestingly I can’t see the leaderboards through the browser anymore. I’m sure that will clear up though.
Overall the stages went pretty well. Stage 11 was a special one for me though. I misjudged the “2 left tightens over narrow bridge” right at the start; only tapped the front right corner but cracked the windscreen.
After that I think my brain’s subconscious took over for a while. While my conscious was generally aware of the co-driver calls and working the wheel and pedals, it didn’t seem to have direct control over them. Felt more like my subconscious was piloting the car. Everything was flowing beautifully and quite quickly, perfectly drifting the car around the turns without hitting anything, even through the really treacherous bits in the hills.
About 2/3 of the way through my brain went “hang on, what’s happening?!?” and snapped/scared me out of it. Thankfully that didn’t pitch me into any bollards and I finished fine. Was a really cool and surreal feeling. Probably the best stage I’ve driven so far.
MP, or rather RaceNet needs some work. I couldn’t set a password and nor could @Elby find me via IP.
In order to create a Private “Championship”, you need to be able to invite RaceNet Friends, which BTW is still showing an error message when you accept. However, you do get added. So I was able to accept Elby and @keets’ invites. Will send out some more invites again.
Both Elby and I were driving in VR. From my perspective, it seemed to run fine. Elby, how did it look on your end?
Racing RallyCross is one hell of a lot of fun. If you guys haven’t tried it yet, highly suggest that you do.
The discord overlay does not seem to work in VR. If I looked at my monitor, I could see it in the 2D display or mirror that DR2 runs when you are in VR. Still, the discord audio seems superior to the in-game voice coms. If you assign Push-to-Talk in DR2 as discord, everyone will hear you twice. Must use one or the other.
It looks like you can also run an MP rally (not rallycross). That might be fun. I’m assuming that like Richard Burns Rally that you would see ghosts of other players, though unsure. We didn’t try it.
The racing was fun as hell and smooth! We need to get this friends thing sorted though since you can’t password public servers. I added you through Racenet but I think when we do the “Invite Friends” thing, it’s pulling up the Steam Friends overlay on your 2D screen if you have the Steam overlay enabled. I saw it but I think you didn’t because you might not have the Steam overlay enabled for DR2.
Also, the medium AI drivers on Belgium Mettet are brutal! I just tried Trois-Rivieres in Quebec and they’re pushovers! Would be super fun if we could just exclude them and get a grid of 3 or more human drivers!!!
EDIT: Just tested this and friend invites are DEFINITELY Steam Friends only! Hopefully you have Racenet linked to your Steam account.
Race formats are single race, or full format which is 4 qualification runs, 1 semi final and a final, which adds up to 28 laps (default) on the same track. That might rub people in different ways. I appreciate it right now since I don’t know the tracks and it gives me lots of warm up. I think there are actually 2 practice runs of 5 laps each available at the beginning of both formats though if the host chooses to take them (?). Note that any damage sustained during practice carries on to the race events so you’ll have to repair it.
It seems tires are a non issue during rallycross … you get a new set before each run and if you blow any during a run you’re SOL.
Here’s my idea of an ideal DR2 server …
“Tuning On” because long straightaways overrev the engine. You have to go into Gearing and increase your Final Drive. I guess if there are no long straightaways you could do the opposite.
“Pre Race Timer 300 Seconds” because Elby needs a quick five mike break now and then. If everyone hits “START”, the timer is cut off anyway.
Up to the halfway point in Wales. The Stratos sure is a handful. It wants to rotate on you with the slightest provocation. For “normal” cars I think you’d be able to just ride over the rocks and gullies that line the side of the roads. In the Stratos, though, if you brush them with a back wheel while hanging the tail out they’ll immediately swing you the other way. While the thing is undeniably fast, calm and relaxing it ain’t.
Still quite close between Keets and I. I can generally get a few seconds up in a stage, but all it takes is the tiniest miscalculation to spin it around and just like that I’m down 15-20 seconds. Made a couple of errors like that so far, but kept it clean for the most part. We’ll see what tomorrow brings!
Great info Elby. Thanks for doing the footwork. How do we link RaceNet with Steam? I don’t remember seeing that option anywhere. Your settings look good.
Thank you Keets. It appears that both my PlayStation and Steam accounts are linked. But when I was fooling around in 2D and tried to add Friends to an RX, I didn’t see eIther RN or Steam friends. The pop-up 2D window was empty. I’ll do some more research on the various forums today.
So, due to the fact that it’s my Steam account username, I’ll PM it to you. My Steam Profile name is Chipwich. I see that in games, on the Menu of the Steam app next to Community, and in the top right-hand corner of the Steam app. I would think that for security reasons, that you wouldn’t need to use your login name (Steam account username) as a method for public contact.
Back to Friend requests. When you accept an invite, you will get an error message, but will be added as a Friend. Would you guys mind checking your email for invites and accept again to see if we can get added? Or perhaps at least with xMudcatx. That way he has all of us. This is what I see now. Does anyone know who egaRim is? -Thanks
Edit: BTW, this could also be a complete waste of time based on how many problems RaceNet continues to have. Last night about half of my stages ended with a message of not being able to contact the server. I would exit DR2 and immediately go back in to drive. Anyway, timed out after completing SS11, which was soul crushing. My poor judgement for waiting too late to drive.
