I’ll try and get beta online working reasonably, though it won’t happen today - I’ll try and get it sorted by next weekend, if it is sortable.
Ugh my Discord is hanging on startup… restarting the pc now
EDIT: I’m in
Hey I’m awake and can see that there are still 6 of you in the server.
But I’m pinging 880m/s
just want to say thank you to @chipwich for hosting and for the rest of you guys for putting up with my appalling situational awareness… hopefully we can do this again

Forming up
Shortly after this we were jumped by a Fishbed…
…later that day:
We finally got to the target area an hit something
Good times guys. Thanks for helping stress test the server. I really had fun but please excuse my egregious TK (HaveDart)! What a loser am I for that.
Server
That looks the same as my case - Corsair 4000D Airflow?
Anyway, great that the event worked, I’ve started on getting sorted and promise I will learn to fight with the Hornet in prep for any future operations
The Hornet is a fun jet to fly and fight. IMO the easiest to learn and really begin to master, and being it’s a true multirole/do-all/jack of all trades, master of none, it’s a good module to have in the stable.
I just had a go at the guns training mission and soon came up on a snag (well, two actually but the first was sussed quite quickly) where actions were referenced that weren’t assigned - as far as I know - on my HOTAS and also weren’t listed in the controls, as stated in the tutorial.
So I thought I’d fire up a cold start mission and try that to start with - but there isn’t one (should always be a cold start somewhere with every module, so you can practice your own thing imho) so I had to do my own through the QMB - and found myself in a hangar, where the rain was coming through everywhere! I thought they had fixed that ages ago?
Anyway, it seems the start-up must have changed too, since I wrote my list not long after release of the module in EA. It certainly used to work.
So I’m going to start the tutorials from scratch again and do them on the monitor, rather than in VR, so I can look up anything that stumps me without any hassle (hopefully!)
I do remember trying the navigation tutorial a few months back and finding things weren’t happening as the instructor said they should - so I do hope it was my error and those missions haven’t been broken with updates along the way - that would be really frustrating!
Anyone still up? Thought I’d hop in for a bit…
There should be some cold start missions in instant action and the cold start training one IIRC.
ETA: Check out Minsky’s knee boards for the Hornet, they’re incredible.
Only saw carrier cold starts in the single missions bit. Didn’t do those cos I’ve not done any carrier stuff - I do have the module, but it has never really interested me. That will probably change when the Corsair arrives
There are a ton of Hornet YT tutorial videos. Here are some that I collected over the years. Scroll to the bottom for the latest additions.
I’ll put the server back up, but can’t fly for a few hours.
I am amazed that I got that close to the formation
Turns out it must have been my error - I just redid the start-up tutorial mission and all went as it should - apart from the already known vices such as jumpy audio and having to do some things twice.
Onwards and (hopefully…) upwards!
Good to hear Johnny. You may have found it or have your own favorite already, but this is an amazing kneeboard for the Hornet.
Two optional but recommended additions:
RWR Threats, HARM Radar Codes
CASE I/II/III, ACL, Overhead Break, LSO Grades
@Freak thanks for avenging my death with that MiG kill. The Mudhens should have sanitized the area in front of the flight outbound. Embarrassingly, I found that my radar was still on STBY. Probably a good fence check just after SP1 would have been in order. I’ve got 20 hrs in the Mudhen and still felt behind the aircraft yesterday.
Would you guys be wanting to do this again, say the 2nd Saturday of each month?
To be fair, there is a big difference between 20 hrs in the Mirage F1 and 20 hrs in the Mudhen. The Eagle needs more space in the physical world, but also in the head of the pilot
I’d love to do this regularly yes!
Yep, next time I’ll try to be there. Couldn’t join last Saturday because I was teaching the basics of the Mudhen A2A radar coincidentally.
It’s a fantastically powerfull radar. Even without Data-Link it provides fantastic SA
I would be up for that
