Dovetail's Flight Sim World

Gave multiplayer a whirl…not many connections out there…but hooked up with Michael in AZ to fly around. Bad news is, the MP code seems to be borrowed from FSX still, which means you get a little red label showing you where other MP players are, but their craft doesn’t come into view until it loads the 3D object at about .3nm, which is way too short a distance. Flying in formation was fairly smooth…not as fluid as DCS, but not warpy either. Only managed about four or five minutes of flying in formation then the server dropped me or him and kicked me to the MP screen…

Gonna give the training academy a whirl now…let’s see if we can earn our Light Aircraft Pilot rating tonight…

So flight lessons are very similar, but not the same as Dovetail Flight School. The first lesson, your instructor is flying the plane mostly, and you are being introduced to the different controls in limited phases (ailerons, elevator, rudder, and power). It is quite well done, very precise, and would be a perfect introduction for a PC pilot that has never touched a PC sim. It is perfect for the target audience if entry level PC flying is the goal for this part. The plane looks great, and so does the surrounding scenery…(IMHO)… Missions are started and ended with little cut-scenes taken from the sim… Nice all around thus far.

Next lesson will be Takeoff…

Well, these are quick. Takeoff mission was nice, quick…easy… There is very good instruction and the gauges highlight in blue when you need to have your attention drawn to them (excess speed, altitude, etc…) The familiar green arrows guide you to where you need to be when taxiing and maneuvering…

Scenery is nice…

Whipping through this training… Light Aircraft checkride coming up next…!

Ah drat…ready for my checkride, but I have to have 3 hours of solo flight time before I qualify…

Alrighty then…gonna rack up some hours so I qualify…

There is no season/weather menu in flight. You pick a weather/season combo to start, and it appears you can’t change it while flying. Nor can I find a way to load real weather.

This looks pretty good though…just the generic scenery between Washington State and Northern California south of Bowerman…

Familiar pop-up panels…lightly modeled Garmin avionics…

Cropped and vignetted just to show this can look pretty…

Just building time… I did notice there is a really creepy dude’s voice on the radio once in awhile checking in with ATC. Gave me the heebee jeebies…

Water looks good - but it retains that FSX quality of having the same texture regardless of it is inland lakes, ocean, or rivers…

Hit this area near Redmond, OR - I’m flying in the Fall season…not sure if this is a high altitude change to winter textures going on here…probably…
