Maybe I need to upgrade your Ejection Seat Handle?
It’s sad that you are stuck at home but awesome that you are making creative use of the time. That’s an impressive piece of work.
The simple electronics of the Ejection Seat handle. A switch, connected to a 2,5mm audio jack.
In order for Windows Direct Input to interpret the closure of the switch it is converted to a USB Game Controller, via a teensy2 micro controller, programmed with the MMJoy2 firmware. This lets me set this switch up as a regular joystick button with autofire. When the handle is pulled, the switch closes and the teensy2 board sends button pulses that then initiates the ejection sequence in the sim.
Now, I have this teensy2 controller as a sort of hub, available to other input as well.
For production units of this handle, I could probably mount the teensy2 controller inside the enclosure, like this. This way it’s connected from the USB connector of the board, directly to a USB port on the PC…
It’s a bit of waste, as the teensy2 controller, with MMJoy2, is capable of receiving input from 10 axes and 96 switches (by the use of shift registers), but it would be an elegant solution.
I printed a mount for the handle to be attached to the underside of my seat.
