looking forward to colonization but waiting to see what the price will be along with requirements for materials to build it.
I like the idea but have a bad feeling it will be a hell of a grind and cost a bit too. Curious as well to see if it will generate income for you once done.
Also hoping most of the materials needed require mining. I could get on board with that.
I agree and I not only see your point, but I HOPE you are right.
I want it to be a massive effort- I couldn’t get on the carrier-side of Elite ass the upkeep is just too much for me to handle, but this?
Oh hell this is what I would want to do. I want to feel like this is the space version of Spintires, Powerwash simulator, or Euro Truck Simulator.
I beg for it to give me the feeling I’m slowly collecting materials to cobble together a freaking Space Station!
I’m not going to get my hopes up- I know it will NOT be like actually building the space station. But I want it to be an effort.
The devs did mention it isn’t going to generate crazy credits- but that’s not the pull for me.
I am the first discoverer of quite a few solar systems and I know there’s at least two that I would love to colonize. They have water world, and terraformable planets too.
Gas giants with rich rings… My my…
Yes I know it won’t happen that we can walk those, but in my mind I am literally the founder, the maker, the creator.
It gives me vibes of the Colonial Fleet in Battlestar Galactica, looking for a new place where to live.
Yes it’s all in my mind- but for me it’s all that matters.
System Colonisation will initially be available in a Beta format. Whilst features and progress will remain permanent we will be reviewing and adjust balancing and numbers for resources and distances as the Beta progresses.
The Mandalay ship is now purchasable for Odyssey players via the shipyard for Credits

Dangit, I need to hurry up back to the bubble and start looking at my first-discovered systems. I’m kinda wondering if we shouldn’t look at a Mudspike player group and maybe establishing our own little network of colonies.
Same here, they are all further out (I’m talking hundreds of jumps) towards the rim from the bubble, but include not just water worlds but more than a few with earth type worlds as well - Do we get ‘first claim’ on them or they all up for grabs?
First thoughts on colonization are Damn you need a lot of CMM Composites.
Going to wait a while until they get a feel for what’s right and wrong.
Pretty sure the best way for a solo player to go about it is a small outpost. Not sure but once the first station is done i believe the time limit is done. Then you can add stations without a time limit.
I vaguely remember spending time in Bagalya which was kinda on the edge of the bubble, Might travel that way and see about staking claim somewhere out that way.
Agree with all the above, I think we’ll be way more successful if we can make a coordinated effort.
Seems like a revamped faction-like system is in the works for the Vanguard update this summer, I’m hopeful it’ll give community groups a lot more purpose.
I think the best way we could do it right now would be to create a squadron since the faction signups are closed. Perhaps that, plus an ED channel in the Mudspike discord would do for now?
Yeah, I meant more just coordinating resources to a particular system to help out the colonization process.
It’ll be interesting to see the timeline from claiming a colony to actually securing it, obviously the larger player groups will be faster at delivering the resources.
It’d help to use a private group session - probably of whoever makes the squadron to keep it simple - just so we can see each other if we are online around the same time. (Not sure why a squadron private session isn’t a thing… but maybe that’ll be added with Vanguards.)
Has anyone seen if you’re paid for delivering supplies? Or is it just donating to the cause?
if there’s anyone with a carrier, and we get to know beforehand what we need we can load the big fella up and carry all the goods over quickly and then just work shield-less (to maximize capacity) T-9s to ferry the stuff over. Just a thought.
EDIT: as a side note- what ship can carry the absolute most? My shield-less T9 tops up at 790 tons, IIRC the Imperial Cutter surpass it…
Sweet. Biggest I have is an Anaconda, currently fitted out as a ‘high security’ 1st class passenger transport… and sorry I’m not going to sell that to buy a T9.
It already has an engineered drive and a decent fuel scoop. I can always swap those passenger modules for cargo and swap all the other essential stuff for D rated modules to turn it into a long range ‘trash’ hauler’.
Im about to buy a cutter, Because I can. Not sure about running shield less though. Really getting iot for mining ops but hauling might be better right now.
Would be nice if the system architect could allow other players to build in the same system. That would make for a fun system.
