Elite Dangerous Thread

Hmm, maybe I should aim for the Python next. It seems the natural money 'tweener after the Type 7 / Vulture specializations. After that it’s a long (long) haul till the Anaconda I guess.

It’s a shame the Type-9 doesn’t have a ship deployable fighter. I never really understood why some ships got it but others didn’t. It would be fun.

Found my first Geisers, on an ice planet. A kind tourist had it on their itinerary I wonder what other sites she needs to see.

Well, it was a few more water worlds to see and a binary star system.

Hot stuff in a binary star system

ELITE DANGEROUS announced on PS4 too! Coming Q2 2017.

Klarsnow parked on the ramp, either paying off his fines (for shooting the security forces) or replenishing his weapons (for shooting security forces) .

Someone has to tell him that the security forces are there to HELP him. Either way, ships went splat.

I don’t want to seem the attention hog, but I think that’s me

And the guy I shot was totally wanted! I just happened to beat the warrant software to the punch by a few seconds…

Yeah yeah, sure he’s wanted…

Wanted to gives thanks to @adlabs6 for some excellent trading advice. Also, I’m a little concerned that for an outbreak, someone wanted me to ship in landmines. :boom:

This finished last night. Cash was given out. CG’s are definitely the way to play if you are time constrained and like to try new ships. Real prizes (probably in-game special skins) will be given out on the 19th.

lol, speaking of CG’s.

I made the mistake of staying in open play after paying off an engineer, and making the 15 jumps to the combat CG. Took all of two minutes to get jumped by a top fitted Imp Clipper packing more missiles than the Macross One.

Won’t be doing that again.

Yep, I didn’t trade in a fat wallowing defenceless trader in open for the CG.

It’s interesting because I wrestled with it as a decision though, as in this is essentially a role-playing game but it still feels I gamed the system by going solo in a trader. The certainty of ganking by a ‘pirate’ (a non speaking insta-kill, doesn’t want cargo ‘pirate’, commonly known as a griefer in other games) was so highly reported there didn’t seem much other choice.

Trouble is, once I go down the path of playing in solo so I’m safe against over-powered griefers then where does it stop in terms of ‘not role playing anymore for safety’? Do I do the ‘mode switch’ to refresh the broken mission board, and then I stack missions? Is that ok? Do I then combat log against NPC’s even when in Solo? Should I have done the Sothis poop haul exploit and got an Anaconda in less than 3 hours gameplay? The skimmer massacre exploit is still there, so I could get 100m in short order that way.

Dunno, but it feels like cheating to win at playing chess by yourself, in that if I want to have all the money then just give me a tickbox in Solo that says ‘Win’ and I can tick it and see all the end-game stuff.

Elite is an interesting game for sure.

Stay away from the CG’s is my only recommendation. Yep, you can get a decent payout, but like sharks to a feeding frenzy, the pirates will be there circling.

I too don’t like solo or group play because it takes a little excitement from the game. I try to avoid griefer hotspots, but i don’t cut them from the game entirely.

In any event, i had a great role playing session with some human attackers. It ended up with me being destroyed, but that was because of the way i chose to handle the situation.

Sigh, I miss my clipper… But i refuse to fly back to the bubble until i can make some decent scratch off the trip… which means waiting for an Advanced Discovery Scanner to be available in Colonia or nearby systems… it might be a while…

…and sold. Now I need a giant wing and gold exhaust outlets. And many, many more decals.

Personally it has this great Battlestar Galactice vibe to me…
Even though the Padmè Amidala personal ship’s pretty close too.

A few nights back I told nearblind and DeadMeat that I’d post my HUD settings:

<MatrixGreen> -0.07, 2, -0.5 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 1.75, -0.23, -0.3 </MatrixBlue>

Here is a thread detailing the process:

I made an enormous soul-crushing mistake in Elite last night. Just for the schadenfreude I’ll share.

I recently picked up a Python and was just mucking about in it. It’s been useful as it can use medium pads at trading posts, so was doing the ‘Zoo’ LP-339-7 CG and built out a tradepython config. I quickly got bored of that (first mistake) and decided to join the local ‘Bounty Hunt’ CG. I usually use my ol’ Cobra for that as it’s A-spec’ed and I know how to fly it ok. This time I thought I’d splash some cash and soup up the Python for some hunting. Put some decent modules on it and some flash guns.

Off I go to the nearby HazRex with my huge guns. Arrive and get some good kills. A NPC (of course) flys in-front of my enormous beams and I quickly get ‘Wanted’. Everyone tries to murder me, despite being Allied with the local faction. Ho hum. Off I go to hi-wake out, when another NPC then rams me, as in ‘Anaconda Full Ram’. Off I spin, with now only 50% shields. Crunch! Hit an asteroid. No shields now. Local fuzz now start to really have a good time, boom boom boom. ‘You have died’.

Now, I rarely die mainly because I guess I’ve been cautious. I get to the Insurance screen and have an absolute brain-fart. Like, mass-moronic decision making. I think ‘Well, I’m not doing that again, I’ll take my 5 million rebuy and tick ‘off’ those weapons I won’t be needing them anymore’. I am stupidly thinking I would go back to my tradepython build in the insurance screen. What an idiot.

Anyway, rebought sans all decent modules. I saved 5000 CR on the insurance rebuy (wahoo!) for modules that cost 18 million to buy (doh!). Genius. I even realized what I was doing as I pressed the ‘confirm’ button. It’s not even as if I didn’t know this.
