Looking forward to trying it this evening. I’m gonna start building my trucking empire concurrent with my Air Hauler one…
We should all do a multiplayer night on there one night just for giggles.
Coooonnnnnnvvvvvvooooooyyy
Do truckers still use CB radio today or is it all Waze, Discord and Snapchat?
It’s never been huge over here. Mostly tippers and construction vehicles use it.
I am personally somewhat of a hermit crab. I try my utmost to not speak to other drivers. It never ends well.
They are either attention starved and need to talk your ear off or so big headed getting the truth out of them is not easy or worth the time sink.
Spend enough time alone and it turns you weird.
I myself have almost a pathological need for silence during my work day
You would not do well in my line of work then. A good chunk of my income is daycare for a dude who lives in an institution. He yaps all day every day without letting up. And the level of his conversation is that of a ten-year-old who watches hip-hop videos and footie in his free time. Which he has a lot of. Yeah that’s hard work I love the fokker tho, wouldn’t be the same without 'im.
Anyway. Trucks. Noticed a sale. Bought all of it for the price I paid yesterday for Italy. Pimped out the ride a little:
Your comment Ace about the cab being the best in business made me right faithfull to the thing. Made it that more real to me
I am thinking of selling the trailer. Perhaps having all kinds of stuff hanging off my truck be more fun, even if a little less money per km.
It’s not the best puller. It’s not the best goer. But with that bunk behind you and the 9 or so power sockets in easy reach it really is the best place to spend a night.
The guys who whinge about horsepower and acceleration aren’t the ones who have to roll off the steering wheel at the end of the day and collapse in exhausted sleep for 9 hours and then summon the will to do it all again. The DAF cab is bloody lovely to live in.
P.s love the number plates in the screen. That’s so cool.
Almost every lorry has those here in .nl. If a driver has kids or loved ones, he (or she!) proudly displays them up front. Perhaps to feel a little like they’re with them? Or maybe in a bid to elicit some compassion from fellow road users? Because if there’s one thing the truck simulator does not simulate (and thank goodness it doesn’t!) it’s mean-spirited, hurried arselocher in audi’s. And there’s far too many of them in real life. They are the reason the truck life isn’t the life for me.
When I started trucking in Canada like 17 years ago, only crazy old-timers used CB radios on the highway. I can only imagine how outdated they are now! I basically work a 8am-5pm city driver day though. I’d imagine more guys use CB’s out in rural areas and logging roads and such.
Oh wait … they still use CB’s in large truck yards. When you drive thru the gate, some still have a sign saying “Use Channel 15 For Yard Manager” or whatever. It beats having to get out and walk through mud to talk to people.
Also, guys with fancy trucks still probably have nice CB’s for the nostalgia of it. They will DEFINITELY tell you when they’ve spotted something wrong with your truck while driving behind/past you LOL! Spotting defects on other trucker’s trucks is like a hobby for most truckers.
Aside from CB radios, one invaluable tool that I use about ten times a day is Google Satellite images. You can easily get stuck having to back out of a situation with a 53’ trailer so it’s great to see INFIL, EXFIL and maneuver points around any particular AO.
“Hey pork sliders eastbound on forty at lollipop sixty-eight…sidling up beside ya’ I noticed your chrome mudflap hottie is askew…hanging by the scantest thread of her bosom. Might want pull into the nearest T and A and take care of your T and A good buddy…”
WTF? You musta been a trucker in a past life!
Too many hours watching BJ and the Bear…
True story. When you asked me when I was about 8 or 10 years old what I wanted to be: truck driver hauling a veterinary clinic…
Lots of kids (like me) dream about it but only lots of them actually do it.
EDIT: Please steer your kids (and yourself ) away from trucking. I was an oddball … in the last years of my IT career I was involved in multi million dollar mainframe to Windows NT migration projects throughout the US. I got into trucking to GET AWAY from all the travelling LOL! I keep telling my wife that trucking is like being retired. Still love it.
If you want to drive the biggest vehicles on the road, for the lowest hourly pay, be fined for every mistake, go to prison for the big cock ups that most likely were on half your fault. Dodge morons all day, get screamed at by other road users, your boss, forklift drivers, yard men, police, other truckers, your wife, your wife’s boyfriend. Reverse uphill round a blind bend on the blind side in the rain in the dark in front of 50 people all wanting you to hit something on camera. Sleep in a tin box no bigger than an SUV with the seats taken out. Cook on a camping stove, drink cold coffee, crap in a plastic bag or on the floor in a layby. Get robbed. Get charged for damage and to top it all off you if you do it long enough you’ll either have a heart attack behind the wheel or you get served divorce papers and she takes the kids and you even spend your home time alone.
It’s just a wonderful fairytale of an industry
But you get a big truck.
I don’t think its a big coincidence truck ends in -uck, like that other versatile little word
Euro Truck 1.40 released to the public. Kinda thought they would hold off until Iberia was ready.
Sounds like trucking in the UK sucks and everyone is grumpy. All that stuff sounds alien to me.
It’s garbage.
It’s amazing you don’t bring that shite home with you! You’re one of the most positive and upbeat people here at Mudspike!
