uTorrent 2.2.1
IIRC BMS “bigger” versions can coexist - few years ago I had 4.32 amd 4.34 alongside installed in different folders, both worked fine.
For having several Updates coexist you would have to backup your game folder before updating (like if you wanted to have 4.37.7 and 4.37.8).
The good news is that for less than 12GB VRAM GPU are textures downsized to 4K only.
So, available are 4k, 8k, and finally 16k textures. 8k textures are the default for the cockpit, planes, etc.
Damn, low fps. 1440p, 4K textures. First campaign at the beginning. R7 3700X, 32GB DDR4, RX 5700 XT 8GB, SSD
Note: Alt+C+F show fps
Well, I should first turn off the grass!
Ouch! Control setup incompatible with 4.37. That’s going to take some time! Can’t wait!
Looks so much better, even with the 4k textures. Early days too. Can’t wait to sit in the Eagle in VR.
I have a mixed feeling. The high-end PC from 2019 is not enough for BMS 4.38. Frankly, I’m a bit in shock because DCS World looks better and it runs better, especially multi-core DCS.
Well, I wish to have an available FSR 3 for BMS 4.38. I will give feedback to the BMS forum. Without upscaler, it will be impossible to reach 60 fps in 1440p. With full respect to BMS developers.
I understand that a BMS team is small, not paid by corporate, etc. Hopefully, they will implement support for FSR. It can be used by Nvidia, Intel, or AMD GPUs instead of the proprietary Nvidia DLSS technology.
For me so far in VR: pretty happy. I’ve intentionally left a few things undone so that I have a baseline to correct from. The only changes I’ve made have been to download only the 4K terrain and a 2x anti-aliasing setting. I kept all other settings (BMS, Oculus, and SteamVR) at the default. This means grass and trees. It runs easily well enough to play comfortably but not always at the utter smoothness that makes BMS such a joy compared to DCS and IL2. I need to adjust the scaling a bit. Because although the cockpit feels sized about right, other objects are too big. Flying the F15 AAR Tactical Engagement, the DC-10 looks like an Empire Dreadnaught up close. And my wingman looks like a Gulfstream Global. The new F-15 pit shares a level of quality with everything in DCS except the F-4. The terrain, even at the very low resolution I opted to download, really kicks it! Having said all that, this isn’t the sort of upgrade that would make me unwilling to return to 4.37. In other words, to my eyes, it’s not like the leap from X-Plane 11 to 12 or MSFS 2020 to 2024. The real standout for me was the new F-15 pit.
With my potato pc that have a GTX 1060 w/ 6GB VRAM i can confirm here that with default settings with 4K textures, it runs gorgeous and smooth without any sutter! It simple looks fantastic! Both Korea and Balkans, now looking forward to Israel…
My feelings pretty much, except I’m not sure how long 4.37 is going to live and I’m using the default 8K tiles. That Eagle pit is impressive.
Just for fun…
4.37
4.38
DCS 2.9
Thanks for the comparison! Now that I’ve had 15 minutes to reflect on my post above, I see I’ve missed the forest for the trees. The real contribution of the terrain isn’t the look, but how it might change the campaigns. In previous editions of Falcon, vehicles traveled with very little to impede their progress. This new engine may well significantly change how the game is played, both as a general moving forces around the ATO, and as a pilot trying to seek and destroy troops.
I haven’t tried any of this. Linking it in case someone wants to tweak their VR config for 4.38.

EDIT:
Grass is disabled by default! That guy was not right. I also disabled shrubs and fps are almost the same.
whats the big step forward apart from graphics ?
The final solution for my R7 3700X + 32GB DDR4 and older RX 5700 XT 8GB VRAM GPU is:
- convert default 8k textures to 4k only
- manually disabled shrubs at the Falcon BMS.cfg
Note: grass is disabled by default! - move a density slider to the left position.
Final setup and fps are:
