Falcon BMS Discussion

My stutters are of up to 5 seconds in length. Most are ~1second. The longer pauses are long enough that SteamVR leaves the game 3d in favor of its own UI. This has only happened in the campaign so my guess is that it’s a CPU, mem, or HDD bottleneck. I’m not terribly bothered it as the pay off has been well worth it.

Very probably a CPU issue, Falcon BMS is heavily demanding on the CPU, especially dynamic campaign. What is your HW specification, if I may ask?

On the official forum, I noticed that several virtual fighter squadrons are celebrating their 25th anniversary. Pretty amazing.

Yeah, I’ve been a professional pilot for 25 years, a quarter of a century, and we flew Falcon 4 on the LAN at the flightschool dorm…

Intel 13th gen i7. 32gb Ram. ASUS 3080 GPU w/ 12gb. Falcon installed on a HDD.

I got to admit, 4.38 is perfect for me as a flight sim now.
My favorite plane, believable weather, terrain, and AI.

My only issue - I want the “old” music back from the original.
It’s just not Falcon4 without it.

I wonder if you installed the original sim, then found the audio tracks in the install folder and either used them as is or renamed them to whatever they are using now would work.

I guess I know what might be the issue. In the HW requirements is written: SSD / NVme (especially for VR).

Maybe a reason why I was not observing stutters might to related to the fact that a chipset X570 has PCIE 4 for GPU and all NVme SSDs as well. I’m running DCS World or Falcon BMS on the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB fast NVMe SSD. The terrain textures and other textures are big, so you need to read a lot of data from disk continually.

I remember having a similar issue in the past when running DCS World on the HDD instead SSD.

From what I can see if you go to your Falcon install folder:
…\Falcon BMS 4.38\Data\Music\Old UI Themes
these are the original music tracks from Falcon 4, so potentially you could rename them from
UIx.ogg → theme_x.ogg (replace ‘x’ with the track number) and overwrite the ogg files in
…\Falcon BMS 4.38\Data\Music
where the new music tracks are stored and you should get the old music back.

You might want to backup the overwritten ogg files.

Original music was in wav format, so you probably would need to convert them to ogg format first, but as I stated in my previous post the original music files are already present in Falcon BMS 4.38 install already in ogg format.

how could you !?

Well, 4.38 is big. I wanted the SSD to have plenty of space for DCS and IL2 to work their magic. Back when I relegated BMS to the harddrive, it was a fairly low horsepower sim.

Installed it last night… Whew, that took a while to download.

Have to do some house chores, but after that I’m on it…

The base game only comes with the Korean theater of operations, right?
How do I install the Balkans? I’d like to fly over my town. (and maybe blow up my old workplace!)

I noticed there’s an HotFix - is it already implemented in the Torrent or is it only accessible as that direct download?

You’ll probably need the hotfix. The usually don’t update the base until there is enough to justify a new version number.

Ah ok, good to know. Thanks!

I applied the Hotfix, but still getting a CTD when I do a specific thing in VR. May not be related. The Balkans is certainly a beautiful map though. Didn’t you used to work at Aviano?

Ha ha, just reread your post.

Ok so- I kinda like it.
The new terrain is really great above 10K feet.
Like, that’s absolutely Italy 100%. I’m touched.

That said anywhere lower than 5k and the illusion is broken, which to be fair it’s totally fine.

My issue now is that it crashes with scary regularity.
I have to see if I have to update my GPU’s drivers.

I’ve been stable with KTO. I think Balkans still need work. Or maybe fly it at 4k.
