Thank you robot overlord.
pssst, you’re screwed guys

I would like to see some jet bombers, no doubt.
B-1B, Tu-160, Tu-22M, B-58 (heh!)
Right now I need to fly SF2 to get my heavy fix and carpet bomb the enemy into the quantum realm.
My only issue with the heavies is the map size is miniscule for the them. The whole coolness factor of them (particularly the B-58) is blasting along at NOE for hundreds of miles to get to the target, realistically in DCS we’re talking maybe 45-hour edge to edge of the map at the speeds those suckers flew at. Don’t get me wrong I will gladly take any of them, but I think larger maps would make them even better.
I’ve never played SF2. I didnt know heavies were a part of it. I think I may have to bite the bullet and fall into the rabbit hole soon.
It doesn’t come with any heavies. However, the game is super easy to mod and as a result has had literally hundreds of planes created over the years. I think my “main” SF2 install has over 200 planes in it, all Korean War-era jets to the present. I never bothered with the WWII birds in it.
I also have separate Vietnam and Cold War installs with customized planesets. Well over 100GB worth.
I have more variants of the A-4 and F-4 than you could shake a stick at, as well as Soviet birds and even French and British.
It’s simpler to fly than the FC3 birds by a bit, depending on the plane you’re flying, and the terrain graphics are primitive by comparison, but the planes themselves look good and there is a surprising amount going on under the hood as far as damage modeling, radar modeling, and the like.
I’d go back to the “Red River Valley” in that sim in a heartbeat - if it had VR. With all the mods especially (Green Hell comes to mind)
In my dreams:
Shoot, XPlane has an edge here actually; their VR, now with Vulkan, is pretty smooth. The other part is missing but, and this is a BIG but (?), will LR actually “get it”?
Finally got a couple of hours to fly in DCS, so I grabbed this and gave it a whirl. WOW its very well done, I would like to be able to dimm the inside lights a bit but could find no working controls in cockpit. I would seriously pay for this content in DCS its more me than zooming at Mach2 in a gen 4 fighter
I think I may have to divert my Christmas flight in order to cross some of Syria enroute and use this
Have you tried using the cargo as a weapon yet. Drop a humvee on a building. I need to try it with a bridge
not yet mate, just flown it about a bit, buzzed some towns along the way. I get these flying very low around here. Noisy and spewing smoke, making the windows rattle…awesome
They are based 2 miles from me. I love the things. Let me know when you see them and I’ll photograph them when they come back.
I’m attempting to integrate them into a multiplayer mission but I suck at it frankly
If I set up a roadside FARP maybe I could hitch a lift and come visit, they can drop me off again when they go back to Otterburn
Oh man I’d love flying top cover for you doing a combat drop
Edit: sucking it down. Lol the source claims it was uploaded from Namibia
I have had a similar idea. Flight of 2 hercs dropping with an escort above. Awesome
Perhaps the escort could be a hog, to take car of enroute air defences… or perhaps a fighter pair, to keep the MiG’s off the herkybirds’ tails.
I think the my favourite hollo pointe mission “erl sis” could be easily modded to accommodate this.
If you set up some friendly ground units near the point where the red fighters spawn and set the drop zone inside the point where you can get to, drop and start to egress when the reds turn up the air cover will have something to do keeping them off the hercs and the heavies could fly right on the deck to terrain mask all the way back to base
Also sneaky canyon runs in Georgia and/or Syria with hercs. Then when the drop is made and the jig is up, the fighter boys get to move in and make sure they make it home.
Also for @schurem too: @WreckingCrew did have a mission designed around C-130 escort as I recall. Perhaps he can provide you with that and you could swap in the playable mod over the AI.
It may be on his site as well, with the other mission files including Erl Sis.
I’ve got erl sis. I fly it solo all the time on my own. I love it. Its actually probably my favourite scenario to fly in DCS.
I really suck with the editor though. Its one of those things that I want to get better at.
Set up the scenario on paper and I will knock one up, I used to make all the missions for the European company of the 229th, with CTLD of course since ED have never really got the embarking sorted. CTLD has many logistical elements within it
