Just had a little fly with it. The FM feels ok. Like a big powerful heavy I guess.
Love the windows. Don’t love the glass cockpit. I do not like an iPad screwed to my dashboard in lieu of proper instrumentation. The panel to the side needs a lot of love too.
I managed to shut it down upon landing, but couldn’t get the engines to fire up again. I fired up the APU and had that spin up to nominal RPM. But then I must have missed a step. I tried holding the engine run knob in the start position but nothing happened. Then I held in in the ‘motor’ position and while it did move the prop, it never fired. Did I miss something?
It’s a cool addition, and I look forward to where this thing can go. It also desperately needs more interesting skins than variations of grey.
The cockpit definitely needs work. But I found my way around it from cold and dark (which is a first for me with a modern aircraft in dcs) it flows quite nicely.
Flight model wise. Im not convinced about the way it holds its speed so well especially during turns. Not much slip either. Slow speed is very very believable to me though.
I properly love the thing. Its an epic and very welcome addition for me to my favourite sim
So, gave it a fly last night…
WOW! The flight model is in the right place! It feels heavy and cumbersome but still you can feel the power of the engines!
I LOVE THIS! I do have some questions, because mainly I couldn’t immediately get them right or infer them- But I also didn’t read any of the things written in the Download page so for now I’ll RTFM.
But it really feels nice.
PS: nitpicking me found a number of modeling mistakes and conflicting polygons but all stuff that’s obvious in a first release so I’m not going to comment on that either.
I will follow closely the development of this.
Assuming things are modeled more or less as they are in the real thing, all you need to start engines on the J is electrical power and bleed air either from the APU or from external sources. With that it should be as simple as moving the desired engine start switch to the Start position and the engines FADECs will take care of the rest. It is also possible to start a single engine with just external bleed air and battery power, but I doubt that is modeled . All the motor position does on the J is open the start valve to spool the engine up to X rpm without fuel flow and ignition occurring. This is typically used for maintenance operations. Now as to why you couldn’t get the engines to restart, I don’t have the mod, but in the real deal you have to open the APU bleed air valve to get pressure to the manifold for engine starts. Something else that comes to mind, and this will sound silly, but where your throttles fully in ground idle? On a side note, does this mod simulate high speed and low speed ground idle?
Have you seen the video on paratroopers drop, it’s looking great
I can envisage a Mudspike session with a para drop to seize an airfield with some CAS for cover, a CAP flight to protect the transport. The hercs can then ferry more heavy equipment while the ground pounders do their thing and the brill cream fighter jocks can top up their tans
I will just add the other vids in the series very instructional
I believe there is an updated version on the DCS website
I made a little scenario where I para drop a hummer and 30 troops to take over a lightly defended airstrip. Just as a proof of concept. I hope I can start a weekly /monthly mission night using the collective help of the community and using the hercules as the main focus
