Nice. I need to check out RustDesk. Looks useful.
Took an Apache up to 23, to finish off the SA-11 now that the search radar was dead. Of course, right as I got close, 2 Hinds launch. The Apache has basically one option, which is laser hellfires which I did. Killed the first, hit the second Hind with TWO hellfires, and was getting 30mm hits when I went down from it’s missile. I’m not saying the Hind isn’t a tough bird, but I got questions.
Decided to do it the easy way, Strike Eagle with JSOW’s. SA-11 wasn’t going quietly though.
5 JSOW’s killed it finally leaving a pair of SA-15’s and some light units. Took up a Warthog, got the SA-15’s and while killing trucks lost an engine to a MANPAD. Still flying, so time to handle the Mi-8 inbound to undo all the hard work.
2 'winders and some 30mm later, we can kill the last truck. Took a '47 up with supplies, and one more zone is now Blue.
Current state of the map.
Awesome work jenrick.
The SA-10 at Ivalo (29) should be down.. I just took out the two large radar units. Everything else is alive and rather angry.. lol.
Last night @Paulrix and I headed up to 24 to free the FARP from the insidious clutches of Redfor.
I attempted to address the two SA-15’s with Mavericks and sidearms to no avail. While I headed back to rearm, Paul tried a close in attack with APKWS, even less luck than I had. I grabbed some 1000lb JDAM’s, climbed up to 24K AGL and took care of the SA-15’s. Pauls return saw him get clipped with a MANPAD and left me with 2 500lb L/JDAMs, a targeting pod, and vengeance to extract. I knocked out both SA-18’s with enough precision I probably could have just dropped them on safe.
That left me with 2 CBU-99’s, I located a likely looking ACP and 2 something or others with tracks. Hmm why are the those something or others suddenly sprouting smoke trails? Seems SA-19’s don’t appreciate having aircraft roll in on them. I managed to juke and jive enough to avoid going down, but things were less than optimal.
A call to ATC and the whiskey compass got me here:
But throttling back to try and put her down got me here:
Grabbed another Harrier, and another pair of 1000lb JDAM’s solved our SA-19 problem. Paul proceeded to clean up with APKWS, while I grabbed a Hind (just in case there were stragglers) with some zone cargo. No need for the weapons, Paul cleaned it out, I managed to land the Hind without fireballing, and another site is liberated.
Nice! You sneak in with the Kiowa?
May hop on here for a bit in a few.
Yes indeed. It seems to be the most effective way to do it, as long as you take your time and don’t do anything rash.
That was a long Kiowa flight from where you came in from, nice work!
Took a strike eagle up with a load of JSOW’s.
Jumped a pair of Su-25T’s, got one, and then diverted to go get the An-30M that was headed over to Ivalo. Gunned it, and then RTB’d.
As far as I know there should just be SHORAD’s at Ivalo, and probably the usual mix of armor and light vehicles. I would definitely stay above the SA-15/SA-19 range until it’s been confirmed clear. Taking a break, but will probably be on later this evening.
@PaulRix has been absolutely murdering the enemy in A2A with the Harrier.
Didn’t get any screenshots, but I think he bounced a pair of Fulcrums and got them both the other night.
Paul and I (mainly Paul) had cleared out and captured Ivalo (29), WP24, and WP25 or the past few nights. We were headed to 26 when I had a DCS crash followed by laptop deciding to reset itself. So, I called it a night.
Hopped on a for a few this afternoon and saw that WP 26 (not gonna try and type that out) was neutral, Paul must have laid waste in the Harrier as per usual. I grabbed a CH-47, and then realized an Mi-28 was hovering directly over the FARP, spinning in circles.
I bought a CAP flight and sent them over there, and they were totally useless. I finally decided to see what the heck would happen. Well nothing really.
Dumped both guns into the Havoc for no appreciable damage. Unfortunately, my slung load didn’t register when I dropped it with the Havoc there, so I landed and unloaded the other zone cargo and warehouse goods. Captured the FARP, and the newly spawned blue defenders went ape. At some point, the havoc either got shot down or despawned.
I took a Harrier up to Kovdor (38), took out an SA-8, and some armor. I don’t think there is anything but MANPAD’s left as my RWR was quiet when I was punching off mavericks. I hit the EWR site that was SW of Kovdor. Please be aware there is an SA-10 at 39 that is more than happy to shoot at you up at Kovdor. I’m glad I figured out how to program the CMS in the Harrier.
Kovdor has some armor and a bunch of soft targets left, probably a MANPAD or two if it follows the usual lay out.
I’m getting better with the Harrier, but at times it feels like I am trying to play a piano while wearing mittens! If I smash enough switches then eventually something useful might happen. ![]()
That Havoc was doing its dance there earlier yesterday… I took it out with a Hellfire. I guess it respawned.
Unfortunately I head out on the road tomorrow, so all the Harrier skills I have learned will most likely be forgotten by the time I get home! ![]()
Yeah that Havoc was there this afternoon too, I grabbed a hind with no weapons to drop off some troops there and then I noticed that little problem hovering about…
Got back on this afternoon, grabbed a Harrier with no A2A munitions, and realized the dread Redfor Hip was going to beat me to Kovdor pretty much no matter what I did. So rolled with the punches, and killed the SA-8 again, with hydras for something different this time.
Two Harrier sorties later, including one where the Mi-8 took 2 winders and dang near all the 25mm cannon I had, it was time to capture it. I knew there were 1 or 2 last units left, so only one option really.
Two Spirals later I dropped a squad of troops.
While that was all going on a Tu-22 got through the CAP and hit 23, rendering it neutral. I’m taking a break for dinner and things, the plan when I get back is to run a C-130 to airdrop supplies to 23, 24, and 38. State of the war:
39’s SAM’s are down, just a couple of MANPADs maybe (ask me how I know…)
Lost a couple of Apache’s trying to do things the sneaky way, and only had a few trucks and a helo to show for it. Said the heck with it. Took a Harrier from the FARP at 25, loaded up with Sidearms, did a vert take off, and began playing hide and seek with SA-15’s and SA-10’s. That part went surprisingly well, managing to get good kills on both systems. Trying to shoot down the Mi-28 attacking the FARP at 25, not so well, twice. Gotta say do not come after those things from the front, or the cannon will take you down (twice). Finally got my revenge when it RTB’d and sidewinder in pursuit did the trick.
An IL-76 was enroute, and I had no more A2A ordinance, so I did what I could against the ground targets, and then attempted ram the IL, twice. Missed both times, don’t ask me how. Second time was when it was on final, and a ZSU knocked out my engine. So I auger’ed in, in front of the Il-76, which took back off trailing vapor. Apparently, that was enough, as even though it circled back around and landed, no reinforcements at 39.
Put up a CAP, and headed N from 27, with a full load of A2G munitions. Took out the last SA-10 launcher, a ZSU, and got shot down by a SA-18. What I get for trying to juggle flying, ordering the CAP, and ground attack.
Overall an eventful couple of hours, pleased with myself for getting a good vertical landing in there after my first sortie from the FARP (before the Mi-28 bagged my next two harriers).
And Alakouritta (WP39) has fallen. I missed a couple of SA-19’s, which made themselves known in an expensive way, scratch another Strike Eagle. So back to the Harrier with a better targeting pod.
No sense in taking any risks, stayed high and JDAM’d everything. Took a couple of sorties, but better than being shot down again. Quick trip in a CH-47 and other one turns blue.
The server may have been down the past 12 hour or so..not sure..but it should be restarted..
So very sorry I’m missing all this action. Commitments are keeping me..well..commited.. Looking forward to flying with y’all again…hoping things get less busy for me soon. I think so in the next couple of days…
It was up this afternoon, and based on the 0500 in mission time it appears to have been restarted.
Hopped on this afternoon to find that Alakouritta was neutral, reading through the log, I had apparently missed a Tor, and it had blasted all the blue units to shreds. Well take two. It took some fairly tedious searching with the targetting pod on the harrier, but a 500lb JDAM solved the issue. Grab a C-130 and we’re back to where I thought we’d be.
Zapolyarnyy (30) was seriously beaten down, and was getting a lot a red air attacks. I upgraded the whole zone to be able to take a NASAM’s and ran 2 zone crates there. It still needs one more to activate the NASAM’s but red seems pre-occupied with my doings of late.
I headed towards the Zelonoborskij Storage site (no waypoint number), and my RWR lit up with an SA-11 and multiple SA-15’s. I decided discretion was the better part of valor and called it.
This evening, I did the sensible thing and grabbed a Hornet.
Red air was all over the area, so I ran a CAP over that way to help deal with that. I shot I believe 11 HARM’s over three sorties for 4 SA-15’s, and 3 SA-11’s, plus the SA-11 search radar.
While all that was going on the CAP and the Patriot site at Alakouritta were mixing it up as well.
I bagged a Fulcrum coming back from my last DEAD sortie. The Patriot had forced him low and I was able to drop in behind him. After that I grabbed the Harrier (I need to relearn the Hornet to do more than shoot HARM’s), and headed back to my original target of the Zelonoborskij Storage. Two JDAM’s and it was neutral. Unfortunately I had attracted the attention of a SU-27, that proceed to smack down both of the Falcons on the CAP, and then add me to it’s tally.
The SA-11 and 2 SA-15 were located in the complex to the North of the Zelonoborskij site, I believe. From my RWR there is a least 1 SA-11 TLR still alive, but you have to stray about halfway up there for it to light up.
I decided to call it a night, so if anyone feels like grabbing Zelonborskij, go for it. I’ll continue to work my way N from there.
Captured Zelonjorskij, and took a crack at Monchegorsk (WP 36). Put 3 HARM’s into it, and destroyed the SA-10 tracking radar. Took up a F-15E, dropped 3 JSOW’s on the SR and some of the launchers, and dropped 2000lb JDAM’s on some SA-15’s on site. Saw an Il-76 inbound, and put an '120 into it, but it kept flying. With 1 engine out of 4.
I was taking a Harrier up, since I was assuming a 4 engine cargo plane, on fire with 3 missing engines was surely going to crash. How silly of me, it landed and repaired Monchegorsk, putting the SA-10 back in commission. the SA-10 swatted me down.
Called it a night, and might call it on this one. It’s fun to fly with other MS’ers even if it’s just 1 or two people, and we can usually accomplish something in an hour or two. Flying solo against double digit SAM’s and all of red airs missions crammed into a corner of the map is becoming punitive. Also if people would prefer a different map, and me racking up hours on this one is preventing us from changing, by all means lets change to something everyone is interested in flying.
I’m sorry for not being active on the server lately.
Kola is nice but it’s mostly real life keeping me away from DCS these days.
Perhaps we could do a big push together again sometime?
How about next weekend?

No need for anyone to apologize, I know everyone has their reasons for not flying. I just didn’t want anyone to feel that they couldn’t advocate for a new map if this wasn’t to their liking just because one guy was still flying on it.
