Foothold - Persian Gulf

Was it the RSR chapter whiskey on the rocks where the c-130 dropped some special forces in an unfortunate bit of terrain causing the death of their commander and injuries to others?

Nothing beats the A-10C for cleaning up once you have local air supremacy.

The Viper is very specialised. Much more limited than the Hornet or Mudhen but there’s one task it absolutely exceeds at: Swing role SEAD/DEAD!

Combine at least three Vipers with HTS via Data-Link and no emitter on the battlefield can hide from you. They will pin point any radar in a matter of seconds with incredible accuracy. Three or four Vipers with HTS and Sniper-XR pod are a force to be reckoned with. That’s 12-16 GBU-38, 6-8 HARMs (or a combination of both) to go after SAM sites. At the same time each Viper can carry four AMRAAMs for self escort or you can switch to CAP once you are done with the SAMs

The Mudhen is a fantastic long range strike platform. If you need a very specific target taken care of, no matter where on the map, this is the aircraft to do it. It is also the absolute best A2A platform in the game. That radar is a piece of art. Unfortunately I have lacked motivation to fly it ever since Ron did what Ron does…

I hear you on that… I only thought of picking it up again after Wags kinda admitted the modules could possibly still be playable and thanks to this server. This whole thread reinvigorated me to DCS just like Antitasi did for ARMA 3.

The one caveat of the Chinook is there’s no reason to fly another helo for anything other than attack. I have yet to find something you can’t haul out in one load, and it’ll do it at 140 knots. I pretty much fly the Huey or the Hip because I feel like doing it when I’m solo on the server.

As @Derbysieger says the Viper is a beast at SEAD/DEAD, and if you’re not worried about enemy air it can haul a reasonable load of munitions. I’m partial to it after decades of Falcon, and it really is great fun to fly (watch your fuel though!).

The Strike Eagle in the version we’ve got isn’t as good as one might hope for finding individual units and plinking them. The TGP is an older generation, and the resolution isn’t as good. You certainly can do it, just takes some more work and time. If we were kicking holes in the IADS to facilitate long range strikes on things, that long range strike is where it would shine. Alternatively, if we can get coordinates for multiple targets a single mudhen loaded for bear with JDAMS could take out all the air defense assets in one loft attack.

Easiest helo to fly in DCS. If you can fly the huey, Kiowa takes 3 minutes to figure out. Honestly one of my favorite helo’s to fly in DCS. Maybe another hour to learn the systems to fight. The MMS is an 80’s FLIR, so it’s not great, but the fact that it’s way over the top of the bird means you can get a lot closer behind cover to lase. Throw in the AI that can fly and hover for you, and you can buddy lase for everyone.

This afternoon me and @Sryan kicked down the defences of the western end of Qhesm island using vipers. While Bryan swept the skies above, I cleaned out all the little rats nest in a hog and then flew in a ‘chook to take it for blue.

We have a foothold now. It’s only a FARP, but the ride over from Khasab or the CVBG is pretty dang short too so whatever. I think an apache or two, maybe supported by a kiowa could clean out Qhesm proper right quick, then one short ride over with a chook to cap it and bob’s yer uncle.

Excellent, I’ve got some errands to run this afternoon, but after that we’ll see what kind of havoc I can cause in an Apache.

Schurem coming home after clearing half the island.

I was strafing and bombing enemy convoys aiming to resupply while Schurem cleaned up and brought in a chinook

I bought tanks to hold the place down. I also sent out some tanks to attack but it appears the server pauses when we all leave

Currently Redfors attempt at resupplying Qeshm are having issues.

Which is honestly the only that has saved him from getting gunned. He’s just flailing around at 11K feet, and I’m not even trying to get him in the Apache up there.

Yes, that is kind of a feature in order to prevent the server from just idling for many hours with RED making uncontested gains…
