Foothold - Persian Gulf

I do want to state that this modern version DEFINITELY has its own appeal. I loved the little I could do…

But somehow, having both less effective weapon system as an attacker but also on the defense, feels more appealing. At least on the surface. We will see how two-seaters planes like the Phantom do shine in Multicrew.

For now its high tech gadgets vs iran tho.

I tried JSOW and HTS and TPOD. I got the target to PRGM1 and saw it in the pod. But they shot the pigs. Even four of them at once. I will try once more with big old JDAMs and if that fails I’m parking the viper in frustration and playing doom.

Edit: OK, the GBU-31s got eaten by the SAMs too. These guys are not for me to crack solo, we’re going to need to do a concerted effort by at least two people, preferably more to take it down.

Releasing my GBUs I somehow took a hit, my left wing broke and was on fire but somehow the viper still flew. So I gunned down a Mirage F-1 and landed it on Khasab. Some nitwit parked a truck with an R2D2 on the runway which I barely missed.

JSOWs are not very good in DCS tbh. For SEAD in the Viper I take 4xGBU-38 or two HARMs, go in high and fast. You can lob GBU-38s at around 15-20nm depending on speed and altitude and SAMs are not very good at intercepting them

Let’s try a hornet with a brace of ducks and some HARMs doing top cover for somebody in a strike eagle raining satellite guided death on those fokkers. I found the ducks to work very well as the AI does try to shoot them, keeping them busy for a bit.

Do the Ticonderoga cruisers need replenishment? They sure do take down a bunch of red air!

I’ll be on for an hour or two

I believe the IADs in this mission is based on the Skynet scripts. If that’s the case, an initial detection kicks off everything. You might try taking off from one of the more S/E airfields and stay low the whole way in?

Bandar Lengeh is blue

That was the most boring Huey ride over the sea I’ve ever done. Siri → Bandar-Lengeh is not a route I’d recommend at 100kt.

Operation Warrior Ethos No Touching is active and we have an airfield in Iran for activities.

I tried to fly logistics to Bandar-e-Lengeh, loaded 4 zone supply crates into my C-130J but for some reason it didn’t upgrade the zone like it did yesterday when I unloaded at Tunb Island AFB :face_exhaling:

Anyway some pics:

That must have been my longest DCS session of the decade!

How to deal with Schurem’s problem of munitions not making it through? Well, they probably can’t shoot down all of this..

Laid waste to this base (Derby had already been softening it up). Blew up some flankers on the ground as well.

Derby and me re-arming..

later on. Derby goes in in a A-10C to clean out the rest of the base so we can take it. What happens? Foxbats come for him. From where? From the base right below him. His choice? Runaway is hopeless…

… So better strafe them off the runway! That was a big booooom.

Cockpit footage of the foxbat.

Meanwhile I was adventuring like Derby, but then I took a MANPADS to the knee, or rather the spine. I was losing fuel and lost more than half the avionics so I limped home.

Fearless frog on his grande crusade to cross the straight in a Huey.

Qesh was rife with activity all night. Here I am wondering if can complete the intercept before I have to call bingo (you lose so much progress for the team if you die or eject.. Better make sure to bring home what you can).

Ran into a bit of a bug with the DCS F-16C where my SMS just reads 0. I did a rearm and it got fixed. I only found about the problem after going airborne of course…

Derby ran into a problem with his C130. It didn’t capture zone with its supplies and then he had to go. So I did the same and made my escort (seen in the clouds) miserable with my low cruise speed.

Coming in to land and capture the airfield. Good news? My crates worked. Weird news? I took up Derbysieger’s crate and they indeed did nothing for supply even though they were the exact same. I ended up using CTLD to delete them and make new ones.

For some reason I have this incredble shine on my left two MFD’s and none at all on the others. I put my Hercules in a hold somewhere over the strait..

So Schurem has time to shoot every last enemy over the island.

I put her down while Schurem gives me a private airshow and deploy supplies to capture another island.

Kish is now ours! and I got promoooooooted

Jenrick joined later to take over logi tasks. First to rescue all the pilots we lost today  For schurem and me it was time to go.

Another awesome evening

Not shown:

  • me howling in frustration as the zuni rockets that my harrier used to fite eith great precision and effect uselessly splatter all over creation.
  • Mirage, Brian and fearless doing heroic air battles that raged on and on.
  • As I had emptied my hog at Kish, we got notice an Mi-8 was inbound. I turned to intercept, counting on my two sidewinders. They refused to lock. I took the suggestion to fox4. Ramming speed mr Sulu! Lost a good 500 points I was carrying in the fireball: :sob:

Grabbed 2 pilots, going to get the third after I kill somethings, and it gets dark. Flying around doing CSAR in full daylight is an uneasy feeling.

In the future please try to be shot down over at least reasonably level ground, my pinnacle landings are not the greatest.

Our first isolated person.

This was a plateau so not a big deal.

Off to number 2.

Hopefully the locals aren’t real supportive of the regime and making phone calls right now.

Have the AI keeping a weather eye for anything that might pop up.

Really on the peak?

Fortunately there was some flat space here.

How do we leave, straight down.

A good points haul, and the low fuel warning had started to flicker off an on.

Now off to go kill things as it gets dark.

Superb reports..congrats on expanding further north! I’ve been missing out on the action - real life work is got me pinned down for another few days. Heading to California tomorrow..so no chance for me. I’ll reset the server in the morning so it will be daylight most of while I’m gone…

Things I confirmed this evening before I broker for dinner.

  1. Redfor is basically at a low readiness state if that particular area hasn’t had any bluefor contacts.
  2. That means you can do things like sneak in with an Apache and kill are the air defense assets before they have a chance to return the favor.
  3. Once Redfor goes active, it gets real interesting real quick.
  4. If you missed an SA-8, it out ranges an Apaches hellfires, and over water there’s nowhere to really hide.

Now where did I leave the keys to the Harrier?

Lavan Island now belongs to Bluefor.

Khasab can use 1 zone cargo, and maybe another SAM site or 2. Redfor seems pretty committed to attacking on the regular.

Attacks on Khasab seems relentless indeed. They must be keen to return to the Arabian peninsula. I decided to run a bit of logistics while frogfoots pound and get pounded in the vicinity of Khasab. Mostly by the SM2.

First activity.. Introduce MANPADS to both the hills that Redfor loves to skulk around in so much and to the approaches of Khasab over the water. Now, the only place where you are not in FIM-92 range is in the middle over the water which should put you in the heart of the Hawk WEZ.

Offloading troops on the hill..

Returning to get more troops

Whats the max speed on these wheels anyway..

No anti-skid… queue the Tokyo drift soundtrack.

AI Hercules are pumping in supplies as the base is churning through SAMs.

I put her down and she tips over in the most funny way. She is stable on her stub wing.. I decided not to risk anything with the credits we all worked so hard to get and decide to open the right door to let our troops out before trying to fix this.. And then the most terrible thing happens.. they actually spawn on my left. five machinegun round resistant rotor blades connect to the soft flesh and blood of a person..

obviously ripping all the rotors in half.. I despawn here which is virtually costless. I’d just be faster to pick up more troops.

I have dropped some troops around and forward of Khasab.

Time for more experiments.. while much more expensive, I’d love to introduce some Vulcans in the hills of Khasab. I’m afraid having them in the open makes them to easy to target for SEAD/DEAD but having them in the valleys would offer some M61 surprises for anyone trying to sneak through them.

300 credits worth of goods. As much as all the stingers I dropped.

Coffee done, approaching khasab. Lets find a good place for the experiment..

Here goes! It’s an absolute gamble.. will it work or not?

Great success!!! But.. It’s sunken into the terrain? After a few seconds, DCS despawns this unit.. Big shame and big waste of money…

I go back and overload myself even heavier. this time bringing both an avenger and a vulcan. But I won’t airdrop these. I’ll put them and Khasab and have them drive.

Another experiment… Build a NASAMS II from a C130. First mistake.. CTLD Engineers jump from the paratrooper door (which was not open). I have to circle around. I landed the engineer and walked him to the crates but did not know at all how to assemble the NASAMS… the documentation tells me that the engineers need to be there first.. and then the crates should come.. What can I do? Fly in a heli to assemble everything myself would be an option.

On the way.

Engineer is just chilling.

Ok lets build this base!

Base is up! NASAMS II available just north of Khasab. a launcher spawned into my heli and to make sure I didn’t damage it I just despawned myself here.

I really love the logistics job on the server, knowing it will persist for a long time and help us in the war effort.

Brilliant! I am finally free from home-bound work and will soon fly again on this server!

@Sryan did you fly the Mi-24 for the Blue? I mean, we can fly Red stuff for the blue? COOL! I didn’t think about that! I might use the larger load of the Mi-8 to deliver stuff around! (IIRC it has more capacity than the Huey)

Otherwise I will take my time to pick a proper module to learn. I’m keen on brushing up my A-10 skillz, and pick up a modern module. I love the idea of the Viper multirole capacity- but at the same time I am also thinking of a more specialized bird.

Would it be madness to get handsy with a Strike Eagle? :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: Anyone here willing to help me fully crew this bird?

During the next week I intend (or at leas try) to get the fundamentals of the Kiowa as a Pilot, and the Apache as a CP/G.

Yes Hips and Hinds are available to blue. You can haul a lot more stuff in the Hip than the Huey indeed, and a lot faster while at it. I’m seriously considering getting a chinook just to do the logistics on the server. You can also fly some red jets, which is why you see Beach doing his AG sorties in the JF-17.

All the jets you suggested are great choices! We really need more guys to chew through the bases, especially after we knock out the air defenses. I would have loved to drive a Mudhen with you but didn’t buy one in its window of availability.

ACH! Me and forest and the trees!

Ooh, I forgot about that one too… Maybe a Chinook/Hip formation. :winking_face_with_tongue:

Or is there any value added on me multicrewing in your Chinook?

I mean it would obviously be cool if we had the “Guns a go go” model!

Someone has already modded that in

We can for sure share a chinook! Then one can handle the logistics and the other the flying.
