I missed the naval strike in PG so I wasn’t aware of that quirk. I’ll take a Hornet up to see if there’s anything floating out there. That’s a long help ride if that’s the case, but the Chinook will make it go by a bit faster. On I believe Syria, the naval task force just teleported once we killed the Reds.
If that doesn’t work out, I have a plan involving a long over water flight and a C-130.
As I stated, it’s cooling related. Things are harder to cool down in thinner air and I imagine electronics in these older pods are far less efficient than modern electronics which means more heat. When you arm the laser a light will come on in the front cockpit on the right side indicating that the laser is armed and ready. It turns off above 25’000ft or if the laser overheats iirc.
Sorry, we’re typing past each other. I got the WHY (and thank you, good explanation). I was just lamenting that there wasn’t something like a big flashing “ALTITUDE” across the TPOD display if you tried to arm the laser above 25k, for us simulated Strike Eagle crews to key on in the moment.
My virtual EB6 says 7 degree crab, and 113 knot ground speed. I guess I had more then enough time to go upstairs and get my dads real one to calculate that.
Better that the Huey! I debated the blackhawk, but I don’t hover it nearly as well. I figure if I was going to spend 2 hours, might as well bias myself for success on getting aboard. If the Kiowa had the legs (and speed, and cargo capability), might have gone for that. Fun little chopper to fly.
Now an Osprey would have been ideal, DCS needs to get on that.
Did you establish if there is something there to land on?
For PG I have a foggy memory that there were some oil platforms in each carrier zone that could be used to flip it. There were there before and after the boats got destroyed but for this time I didn’t see anything on the map.
It might be worth asking on the Foothold discord, as you do have some time
Ah okay. As I’ve mentioned there is an indicator whether the Laser is ready or not, it’s just not in your face, simply an indicator on the right side that illuminates when the laser is armed and ready to be used.
After you got the last boat, I had a radar contact in the S zone when I turned back from shooting my Harpoons at the N group. I debated taking a Hornet up to verify it wasn’t the last ship sinking, but with a 2 hour trip, but why add an extra 30 mins to it? If it’s not there, well hey won’t be the first time I’ve bravely launched into the unknown and ended up notching another death on my total.
108nm to go, 55 mins.
Link for the foothold Discord? I know @BeachAV8R said this was a modified version, so might not be applicable. Worth checking though.
Might actually have barely enough gas to make it S America if I had to. We’ll call that plan B.
Letting Bob fly, and he had the Thrust lever cranked, no way we’re making it to S America if there’ s nothing there. We are committed.
Apparently the An-50 I put two AIM-120’s and a Strike Eagles worth of 20mm into last night is still happy circling over the old fleet location with 4 smoking engines and a bunch of holes. The RWR keeps calling out a search radar.
So overall, lost a bird and took the knock for it. But our new carrier location is up. I expect a nice plaque and a big mug in my honor in the squadron bar.
Still a 126nm flight to the closest red base, but a lot better than ~350 nm.
