Server appears to be down.
Yay! You caught a Mudpike!
Yep..just walked in the door and see it is down. Looks like it was on the ED end not the server..some login timout error. Resetting now.
To paraphrase @PaulRix, a productive evening.
With Tolhuin taken, and FARP in place, the server reset dawn (which is really early, and quite dark), time to do things in the dark.
(This was my second Apache, so about 30-45 mins in)
My initial foray at Puerto Williams, was only moderately successful with a few kills. George wasn’t engaging targets with the gun, which I finally figured out had to do with what acquisition source I was using. It had been a minute since I was using the FCR. Second Apache ate a tree at 105 knots in route to Puerto Williams. Decided to take a Warthog, and found a fully loaded A-10 on a short runway will NOT take off with sufficient obstacle clearance for Tolhuin.
Short runway, obstacles, short range to target. I grabbed what I should have initially and took a Harrier. Proceed to piecemeal the air defeses with sidearms, and in the finest Mudspike tradition killed every unarmed target on site with a Maverick. Paul logged in at about this point, and we both ran Harriers for a few runs. He with JDAM’s, me lobbing HARM’s. Once we had rendered the SA-22 onsite combat in effective, back to the Apache for me. Worked methodically down the coastline towards Puerto Williams, while Paul rained JDAM’s from above and success was ours. A quick trip in the CH-47 and another site was liberated.
Ushuaia had a SA-15 posted up, which made getting close dangerous. Paul and I tried lobbing HARMs at it, but it just laughed and shot them down. Maybe if we’d both rippled off 4 HARMs each we’d have gotten through.
Paul had the idea of taking the Hornet and loft’ing some JDAM’s it way.
Which looked awesome, but unfortunately met the same fate as our HARM’s.
My thought was there’s no way it came shoot submunitions out of the sky, so low level CBU run ought to do the trick.
There’s a nice long valley leading to that harbor, so of course I had to do a trench run.
There is a 4nm gap from the end of the valley to the SA-15, and that was more than enough for the SA-15 to greet me with a face shot. My .95 mach approach just hastening the meeting. Back to the HARM’s I went, and at some point Paul got the kill. Not sure if it was a HARM or JDAM, but either way it was dead. Paul stayed with the JDAM Hornet, and I decided cluster bombs in the M2000 seemed like a workable idea now, and we proceeded to largely clear things out. In the middle of all of that redair was causing a ruckus. I unabashedly stole Paul’s kill on a Su-25, dropped an Mi-8 attempting to resupply Ushuaia, and got a Fulcrum in middle of all of that. I believe Paul had a Fishbed and some Fulcrums.
The final clearance involved some strafing from a M2000 and a Hornet, and a few more JDAM’s while I brought a Hind. Ushuaia was liberated and we called it a night.
Overall some tough targets. The high digit SAM’s aren’t as heavily deployed as they have been in some other missions, but the restricted terrain and low cloud deck definitely make it interesting. Red air is much more active, and I’ve lost a few aircraft to a Fulcrum or Flanker suddenly joining the party.
I’ve got two competing issues of playoff hockey vs the trial ending on the rather ordinary South Atlantic map. Be back soon and do some air to air.
I’ll probably be on in about a hour for a while.
Hopped on and did a little air to air, knocked down a red cargo plane and a Hip. Took a Harrier up to Rio Grande where the AI had been blasting the SAM’s. Unloaded a plane load of JDAM’s, and when I decided to get a bit lower to use my CBU’s caught an Igla. Called it a night.
Whoever pops on next, Rio Grande is probably about 60% of the way cleared, and besides the MANPAD’s and some light AAA safe (just don’t got below 12k AGL).
The constant stream of Mi-8s hampered my efforts a little but there should be very few targets left at Rio Grande. An A-10 should be able to clean it up easiIy. I shot down three helicopters and the AI another two and it was still resupplied twice in the time I was on.
They were being a annoying bunch of tenatious cheeky fella’s those Mi-8 drivers!
I finally started taking escorts, and using the dynamic controls, parked them in an orbit along the Mi-8 routes to blast them. Not sure if you can get escorts in the Strike Eagle though.
Yes, you can. In fact my escorts helped a lot in taking out those Mi-8s while I was attacking the target
Server getting updated with the patch. Might be down until morning (East Coast time). Sorry I missing gameplay time. I spent four days at the beach with the parents…never broke out the laptop and VR headset. Now back at work for a few days..then off to Vegas for the rest of next week. So my time will be limited…but I sure am missing it. Not enough hours in the day.
All good man, I think with all the updates (and the new plane) coming out today most of us have plenty to keep us occupied.
You were at the beach in Florida, you better have had your eyes on something way different than flight sim’ing in VR!
Server has been updated to 2.9.27.24969 and should be up… Mission file was update to a start time of 23,400 which should equate to 6:30AM in Mendoza..which should put the sun rising for the mission date time. Sanitize module thingy was done as well.
Coffee and Combined Arms…always a fun start to the day.. Loaded up a CH-47 with some Bradley crates and headed up to the outskirts of Rio Grande…
@Derbysieger softened it up nicely as I was worried about the anti-air threat…but didn’t get so much as a blip on the RWR from that area…
Landed about 10km south of the airfield and unloaded my supplies…
Put both Bradleys on HOLD FIRE and jumped into a single and left the second as a backup in case I got blown up…
Nervous moments crossing the exposed bridge. I’ve been blown up many a time by anti-tank teams and tanks…so I held my breath…
Creeping into town slowly..peeking around every corner. It is best to be very deliberate and use the long range zoom on the optics to try to spot enemies before they spot you…
The BTR was the only thing showing on the map…as soon as I engaged him some technicals came out of the woodline…
Kept at the perimeter of the zone and picked off an Mi-8 and a Mirage…lots of windage required for the main gun..
Then…oh sweet target of opportunity…
Pushed down to the southwest corner of the zone and cleaned up some units down there…
Rio Grande went neutral…
Fun morning…
I’ve got to pickup CA during the next sale.
Jumped on to check out the latest Hornet changes, as a live combat environment is ideal for new gizmo learning.
Did a CAP mission from Rio and killed a couple of MiG-29’s from distance with an expensive AIM-120C barrage. Used the radar silently at the beginning but it would have a habit of switching it back on when I didn’t expect it (like bumping to next TWS target) so not really sure what I’m doing yet in terms of working things. The new SA and combined MIDS stuff is nice. A sort of Temu F-35 feel with all the widgets and data link from AWACs going.
Took a Hornet and a Harrier up to Pampa Guanaco, took out the SA-22, and the about 2/3rds of the ground units there. I believe there is 1 SA-13 left, I for sure took out the Igla (with a JDAM, directly on it). DCS looked up hard on me, and I decidd to call it a night.
I’m out of town for a week or so checking out NTTR… I have access to the server if it needs a reboot…but not if the power goes out at my house.. ![]()
Is that a Janet service baby 736? Try to get on it and report back! ![]()
Looks like a -500 to me. But yep, they’re off to someplace spooky.
