Still tweaking some settings. We have Scattered 7 for the weather setting..and upon server resets we will have about 5:20AM..about 15 minutes prior to sunrise..so pinky skies…

No Pantsir, no SA-10/11, and a few others..so it should be pretty approachable. @jenrick and I made quick work of the first two capture zones…the Syria map sure is beautiful…

@jenrick capturing Paphos…

Always fun to come back to base and see friendly air-defenses firing off towards things that are chasing you (MiG-29s)…

As we signed off we are well on our way…

The Hun is available, and the RWR goes nuts. Also free fall munitions do not work well against a SA-19. I had loaded up and head for one of the FARPs on tht N coast of Cyprus when the AI cleared it. Diverted to the next target, to try it, should have gone home and grabbed Shrikes.

Scrambled to stop them from retaking base #4 and… I am not carrying any weapons. I saw the default loadout was some AIM-120C and AIM-9X maybe those are blocked for us? Or not in supply? Anyway..

The Hip can be a bit of a PGU-28/b spunge..

But she goes down not a second too soon.

I’ve been having a bit of fun on my own. Sad to not see anyone but with the heatwave here in europe I imagine it’s time to pursue different hobbies for most folks.

Since I had to be re-educated that we are actually in a cold-war setting.. I’ve been going after the SAMs with trusty mavericks..

The AI eagles are eating well.. I am safe.. good bot

The next target

I hit them.. a bit.. and I am about to make lots of new friends, definitely a win-win.

Since I bought afghanistan I’ve been having a lot of fun with the apache, I tried to sneak up on that site but I keep getting surprised by convoys of armored vehicles.

Combination of Hellfire and HEDP work. George has been getting better but still managed to send a third or so of the mavericks somewhere into the void..

That Hind (left MFD) is resupplying..

The results.. nobody got bothered and they activated a lot of units

Back to the base.. Hawk has my back.

Resupplied our base as well. That rearmed the Hawk I think. Also supplied some of the missiles I’ve shot through.

Ended the night by thinning the MiG collection a bit as they think our side of the island is theirs or something.

Hope to see you soon! Maybe with some more comfortable weather.

With my MiL breaking her hip, I’m unfortunately going to not be flying as much for bit as I’m out of town dealing with that. However…

Update: I was not expecting the glacial pace of my MiLs internet. I may well be back home before DCS finishes downloading.

I hope she makes as swift a recovery as is possible for a broken hip.

Damn all you bad influencers. I just bought the Syria map because:

a. It is on special.
b. Y’all rave about how good it is
c. It seems to be the go to map for Foothold campaigns.

I really do need to get involved. I had every intention with the Kola map, but real world events conspired against me, including having to learn the CH-47 and too many overcast days that meant I was restricted for high power draw PC use (i.e. gaming)… We are off the grid with solar panels and batteries.

Lovely sunny day as I type this, but that means I need to let the batteries get a full charge and get outdoor chores done without freezing my tits off. I will see how I go later shuffling DCS files to external storage so I can install the map (SSD space is another issue). Plus I need to head into town tomorrow for vittles and other supplies. After that I might be able to take part this time.

Spent a few hours solo on the server this evening. Had probably my best run of missions I’ve had playing a Foothold campaign. I think I flew four or five sorties without getting shot down. The only time I DID get shot down was because I wasn’t paying attention to EWRS messages and I got bounced by a pair of Su-25s that put a pair of heaters up my Warthog’s tailpipes.

Started out the night flying out of Akrotiri in the A-10A..my fav..well..second fav.. Instead of heading for the next logical choice..Pinarbashi..I elected to go for Larnaca to the east reasoning it would sort of allow for attacks on all the remaining bases on the western portion of the island.

I managed to turn Larnaca neutral with just two sorties..it was pretty darn fun.

Heading over for the capture…

Always fun seeing BLUE air defenses light up some attackers…

While I was focusing on Larnaca..a convoy steamed into Karavostasi and defeated our defenders there..turning it RED. I always feel guilty when that is happening..so I paused my attacks on Ercan and headed up there. Fortunately, when RED takes over a base..it is generally very lightly defended until it is resupplied. This was the case..with only a single RED air-defense vehicle holding the zone. A quick Maverick shot sorted that out..then another zone capture flight in the CH-47…

Went back to Ercan to finish that up. It was a bit more work..with an SA-6 that I had fun battling with. It was the attack on Ercan that led to my only shootdown of the night when those Su-25s snuck up on me. Managed to clean up over there though eventually and then it was one of those races between an Mi-8 and my CH-47. I practically plowed into the zone…my screen went grey and I thought I had killed myself..but I had apparently just damaged the helo. I was able to unload my zone supplies. Really nice when you just barely beat an Mi-8 into the zone and once it turns BLUE they open up on the poor dude with everything. Very satisfying.

Current state of the map..well..the Cyprus portion of the map. Larnaca and Ercan are BLUE…as I was dropping offline RED was pushing another convoy west from Pinarbashi towards Karavostasi…so be on the lookout for that.

@BeachAV8R being relentless. He would shoot more guys and go home alive.

Lots of explosions as Beach eradicates all Red guys from Cyprus. I casually roll in.

Coming over to ‘escort’ beach, as if there is any keeping up with that thing..

Cyprus is ours!

We were trying to make this guy choose between the two of us  I would personally have sit in the back of the chinook due to much higher chance of finding a snack onboard..

The guy driving back with me.. IRL story behind it

dropping off our rescuees and calling it a night.

Fun stuff..! Cyprus is clear. Such beautiful scenery on that rugged north coast…

Clearing out a few areas before setting up for the capture of Pinarbashi…

Of course..it was a race with an Mi-8…

…but I got there first..and..owing to my total disdain for the RED Mi-8s..elected to wait to unload my cargo until he was on the periphery of the zone…

Jack Nicholson Yes GIF

It did take a surprising number of hits to bring it down..but BLUE air defenses did the job…

I’d later eat a missile from Gecitkale sneaky SA-19 got me as I was targeting the SA-8…but I did find out that if you can stretch your glide and roll into a BLUE zone you will get credit for landing..

Another guilty pleasure…destroying Mi-24s at RED bases as they are taxiing…totally worth the Maverick…

@Sryan logged on and destroyed the last units at Gecitkale while I scurried back to grab a CH-47. Next it is on to the mainland and/or the RED fleet I suppose…

In the usual way of the universe finally got DCS and CA downloaded and installed on this laptop, and Cyprus is taken. Sadly, no bluefor ground units are capable of fording their way over to the mainland.

Well..I logged on to see if you were swimming to Damascus @jenrick …couldn’t find ya’..

Had a good session…spotted @MiG21bisFishbedL tooling around in his new F-100D..looking good!

Salt 1-1 (not sure if he is a member or visitor on the server?)…was doing a bang-up job on clearing the airspace. Specifically he lured some MiG-23s away on my second sortie out towards the RED ship zone…

I managed to get maybe 7 or 8 Maverick hits on the Grisha over the course of two sorties…the first ended in me getting shot down by a MiG-21…

Second sortie was a bit better because the ship was damaged from the first..so left a nice smoke trail to home in on…

Maybe 3-4 of the six Mavericks leaked through…

On my long flight home watched user Dogpatch with a ballsy F-4 attack on the area around HOTEL… Some MiG-21s rolled in on him and the chase was on… He got a kill on a SAM unit before the MiGs dispatched him with a combination of guns and missiles…

I needed to pee…

State of the map at midnight-ish.. I assume the BLUE carriers will move up to occupy the now vacant RED carrier zone. Next to establish a …(drumroll please…)…FOOTHOLD on the mainland…

Enjoyed flying with the visitors..hope they stick around!

Sorry I missed you @BeachAV8R with nothing land based needing shooting on Cyprus I ordered all our downed pilots to head for the nearest friendly airbase and logged out and got caught up on some of my Youtube “to watch” list. I should be back to my normal gaming rig tomorrow afternoon, so I’ll catch you guys then. :+1:

Alas, the poor helicopters do not have the legs to attack Incirclik, not sure if Hotel can already be captured so I’ve opted to do my first Chinook flight. Took 3 crates with a FARP and put it down on the south coast in Turkey. FARP London is now active. It has some ammunitions so we should be able to knock out Incirlick from there.

turns out I was only at half payload and had plenty of fuel left so I could have brought some more defenses. There was a pop up 29A group heading for as I was over the ocean so I scrambled a decoy flight. 1 F-14 got shot down, and eventually F-15’s scrambled from Cyprus where the 29’s spent and ungodly amount of time doing loopings and annoying the air defenses. We really need to up those!

The Chinook, is a joy to fly though a bit pitch sensitive and the collective feels a little weird.

I need to grind some points to be able to deploy airdefenses, alas. Time to hop into my trusty F1 then! Cyprus is far from being properly defended given how many fighters just meander over there. Also the enemy Mig-29’s are definitely not easy AI given how many kills I’ve seen them make.

A ZELL farp has been created by a SOF team inserted at Adana, right in the middle of the enemies bunghole. They will never expect our unlimited rocket lofting abilities from that precious fortress so courageously captured by yours truly!
