TBH I donât really care about how it works against humansâor even decent AI. I only care about Foothold. @TheAlmightySnark is right about the -54. It too is not as perfect as I stated. But works ok spammed. Fortunately @BeachAV8Râs server doesnât increase my tax bill.

Also donât forget that the 21âs AI is famously cheaty in the physics department so do not judge itâs performance by how your own aircraft performs against it.

Iâve decided to destroy and capture al-bassad(assad? Airfield east of Hotel) with my trusty Hind. Had to knock out a Mi-8 that was being cheeky on route to reinforce/recapture but nothing a -24âs cannon canât handle. Then when up in a Mirage from the fresh reinforced and recaptured airfield to bomb the warehouse west. Did get a good couple of hits in but only one kill, the SAMP bombs definitely seem to be lacking compared to MK-83âs. No air defenses there, just armour/APC so that could be a fun place to attack for someone!

Great job and Al-Assadâs airfield! Funny that I was struggling for dear life to hold on to it in the morning. I was doing strikes near Aleppo, or at least I was planning to but it was furiously under attack..
5 frogfoots coming from two directions..
That I felt the need to drop my AG ordnance and gun them down, after already expending my sidewinders on Fishbeds.
But then a bunch of fencers came and they flattened the whole of Hotel with laser guided bombs! Neutralized our zone.. I rushed in with a chinook but it looks like I would not beat that Mi-8. @jenrickâs hard work on capturing it would be lost.
I was afraid I would be just seconds too late to recapture this for us..
But I managed to put her down on just the edge before the Mi-8 could do it, because he was more leisurely about it than I.. supplies dropped, stingers dropped, the zone was back in our control!

Nice! It was actually relatively quiet. The Hawk at Hotel was mostly keeping me safe and I didnt see many fighters. I think the enemy also has to content with stores of supply and such.

OK, changing my opinion again. Shooting with the AIM-54 is clubbing baby seals. 7 kills, 2 misses. One miss was against an Su25 using an ACM lock. The Phoenix is very inefficient when shot inside 10 miles (or so the internet has taught me). The other miss was against an Mi8 (I was out of AIM-9s). My Tomcat didnât even get launched at.

Well if you dislike the AIM-7 and the AIM-54, thereâs not gonna be too many options left on the cold war server. If youâd like an air-to-air missile for people with some chest hair, thereâs the AIM-9. I really love taking out the F-16 on the cold war server. Itâs not as neutered as I was expecting without slammers, but it is all about surviving until the merge. Alternatively, thereâs the Super 530 and R-27 to play around with. Unless you want your own fishbed with R3R, thatâs gonna be very difficult.

The Matra 530 makes for a spicy merge against pretty much anything armed with SAH missiles (or long range IR missiles for that matter). The Super 530 is much more like the Sparrow in capabilities, so again it can get interesting. Now if you really want to make it interesting Stingers and HellfiresâŠ

I love the M2000 too. If you are stuck with Fox 1 sticks, there are none better than the 530. But I am not sure I have it in me to relearn the Mirage. Today in the Tomcat was a good one. Turns out that while I may rail against the easy life, it suits me. I lasted 7 minutes in the Harrier this morning. I then spent the following 3 hours in the Tomcat and to my knowledge not once got shot at.

I tried the MiG. Too hard. By the time the sight is able to track, the bad guyâs wingman already has an R27 headed my way. Such a delight to fly, that MiG. So Tomcat it is!
Returned to the Kitty after dying in the MiG twice. Bagged a few. I launched at a 2-ship of Su25s carrying rockets bound or Aleppo. The 2nd shot missed. I launched two AIM-9s at the remaining badguy but he spoofed both. @Sryan was on and I was praying that he wasnât watching the fight. It was a clown-show. Me, being the clown. I figured that the frogfoot was so laden with stuff that he wouldnât be able to stick with me in the vertical. But stick he did! He launched twice and both trashedâpure luck as I was flat on my back doing 80 knots. I pulled back around on him and sprayed some lead. MiGs were on the way so I couldnât afford to keep missing gun shots. I took another close-in Phoenix shot. That missile is so big and so powerful that firing it in close feels like launching an airplane at an airplane. It pulverized him. Jester and I got home safe; almost a guaranteed outcome in the F-14.
On a previous Mi-24 flight Abu al-Duhur I got launched on unharmed by an SA-6. I returned there with a Hornet loaded with AGM-88s. I know nothing about HARMs. I just know that if you know nothing, you probably need to be in TOO and be fairly close. I launched a bunch. None hit dead center. I had no idea that @Sryan was working the same spot delivering troops (I think?). My HARMs hits took him by surprise. Knowing he was there made the effort more enjoyable so I rearmed at Aleppo twice more and weakened the field enough for F-4s to pound it with AGMs. I then took a Mi-24 and bagged a few more targets there. Plenty more if anyoneâs around.

I was too busy doing a very professional CFIT. Iâve been trying to work my way around the autopilot/FD updates to the Chinook. I got it to stick to a radar altitude and track perfectly, as if on rails. When I noticed we were heading straight for a powerline pole.. I first tried to decouple, then emergency decouple, then disable the FD all to no avail. It was a perfect headbutt. TRC and point is also I cannot wrap my head around, they wonât engage, and when they do engage it feels like my chinook is trying to de a belly-up landing in hopes of getting some tummy scratches.
@smokinhole assessed the situation correctly, I was trying to land in on Romeo so we can capture it. I had a rude awakening by my doorgunners.. who managed to land a shot on a MiG-21 who was trying to kill me en route!
the Al-Assad HAWKs make him pay for this.
@smokinhole made attacks on Taftanaz a dangerous affair.
Later, he moved to a hornet to attack air defenses, in the Papa region I believe
This guy got lucky by only a few meters..
Going back at them again.
I wanted to attack the same airport in that region, since the SAMs have had some playtime. But I got mangled in my own aircombat, a hostile Hind near Taftanaz.
Hinds eat 30mm HEDP for breakfast it seems..
Finally he went down.

Per an actual CH-47 pilot active over on the ED forums, the FD implementation is definitely not quite done. He recommends skipping it currently. For TRC/Point I believe you have to be moving under 9 knots in any direction for it to kick in. In general I bring it to a hover/near hover manually then engage them. You can pickup into a steady hover and translate around with them very easily though. From some other posters on the ED forums either hit trim reset right before you engage any of the AP/FD functions, or right after, not perfect, but it does help with the wild ride you can get.

Short stint in a Phantom. I forgot Foothiold classifies it as a fighter and promptly gives you plenty of enemy airplanes to shoot at. Flying it solo to bomb stuff is simply no bueno but I took down a Frogfoot and a fishbed.
