If you take an unsanitized look at history, you’ll realize nothing has changed.

We have not evolved, as some would profess.

We have not devolved, as others would decry.

Aside from differences in lifespan, body size, and of course technology, there is fundamentally little change in humans over the last several millennia. We behave as our cultures raised us to be, and that differs wildly depending on where in the world that is.
Those who try to claim different usually have an agenda that is supported by the evolved/devolved claim so they have a vested interest in pushing it.

…and yet we have risen to the point of inventing "I Love You, Colonel Sanders! ", clearly the pinnacle of human development…an achievement not likely to be surpassed in our lifetimes! :open_mouth:

Ouch…I pulled my sarcasm muscle again…I need do some stretching beforehand.

Not worse than “Shower with your dad simulator” IMO.
So I don’t think that things are getting any worse.
Everything is Gauss distributed. There will always be little really great stuff, little really dire stuff, and a lot that is somewhere between that.

…and now I have a new topic discuss with my psychiatrist next visit…thanks for that! :open_mouth:

True enough. Supposedly there is 800 year old Viking graffiti along the lines of “Erik carved these runes very high.” Guess we really haven’t changed that much after all!

Nope. People are people, and that’s why historical dramas work so well…because we can still identify with their problems. Family, friends, leaders, coworkers, power, betrayal…all the same just the details differ.

Ever notice that when people start to wax philosophic about “it was better in (enter decade here)” that almost invariably that was the decade in which said person was a child?

Boomers think the 50s and 60s were better, Gen X think 70s and 80s, millennials talk about 80s and 90’s. Naturally, when you were a kid the world was a brighter, better place (barring an awful childhood) compared to when you were an adult and responsible for your life and getting jobs and paying for things.

I remember reading something written by Socrates maybe, or some other old Greek philosopher, about how the youth were destroying their culture and it was the downfall of civilization or something, and this is over 2000 years ago!

All this has happened before, and all this will happen again. So say we all!

Well said sir, and all too true. It was xenophon who documented the lamentable decline of athenian youth iirc. Socrates himself never wrote anything, he’s a character in Plato’s work.

Very true points. Personally I think the 60s were pretty good (even though I grew up decades later), but that is likely down to me being a mechanical engineer and thinking the space race and specifically a “small step” are the greatest achievements in human history. There were a lot of terrible things happening at the same time, though. It’s amazing how selective our memories can be.

Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception is reason enough to pick up a PSP. It’s ridiculous how good it is, easily standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the PS2 trilogy. I forgot how awesome this game is, holy hell.

Pillars of Eternity is great! - it has been enough time that I need to start it again with a different type of character…although I am always drawn to elf archers…

EDIT:

Tyranny…The fate of the people does not always rest with a hero.

Now that sounds promising! :astonished:

Yeah, really cute and nice gameplay and graphics.
I just read that there is a DLC and was excited, but then I noticed that it is an add-in and I actually played it already.
Sad that the game is so short, it was great fun.

I started my playthrough of DID’s F-22 Air Dominance Fighter. Who remembers that?

Not one I’m familiar with. Looking forward to watching your videos. The energy air force series was an interesting one. Never heard of it either to be honest but was very cool
