Games we are playing

Chris, you owe it to yourself to spend some time with KSP. I have sunk probably close to 1000 hours into it so far (I have been playing on and off since 2011). It’s an amazing game, mainly because you learn a bunch about orbital mechanics without even realizing it. That first lunar landing gives you a huge sense of achievement… and then you have to get your little green guys home again.

The trailer looked great.

I just hope the things like the nuclear pulse engine and the metallic hydrogen engine with magnetic nozzle don’t make the game too easy.

Well - I think the verdict is, it is a cool game. Unsure if it’ll keep me in it’s grip for very long (as no game has managed to do that DCS/XP aside in recent years), but I kind of want to try and get a cool colony going. I bought it 50% off a little while ago and don’t regret it.

My thoughts exactly. I also got it on sale.

For the 3 months I was healing in a neck brace from my fall, I tried several non-flying games. (when you cannot move your head, VR loses much of its appeal…go figure) I ended up spending most of my time with Stellaris. Surviving Mars was second.

I liked the basic mechanics of the game…stuff like how you explore the surface and how you have to plan your resupply missions (limited number and limited capacity). I didn’t “get” the colonist selection part and that may have hampered me…I need to review that.

I also don’t fully understand how the selection of a specific factions/space program you choose at the start, actually impacts the game play. You have to do certain things, build specific facilities, etc. no matter who you choose to play as so…? But over all it is an interesting few hours…oops, got to go the DCS update just finished.

I gave the tutorials another shot after a couple of quick attempts at the game, where I mostly expanded too fast and ran out of a resource etc.

I then realised that the level of detail is actually quite high and power management, work shift management, maintenance etc. are quite important - you don’t just run your whole complex at full pelt all the time. My expansion is now slower but more measured and there is a balance.

Unfortunately one of my engineers just retired of old age, meaning that he isn’t running the factory to make the machine parts I need for maintenance…I could move another engineer from the electronics factory over to patch, but then I wouldn’t get replacement electronics for maintenance…ugh! Now that bloody engineer is just milling around in the dome gardens knocking back beer!

Sounds interesting.

It is…and quite relaxing in a way. It will be interesting to see how well the game scales: At the moment my base is so small that managing things like this is fun but I hope that further down the line it doesn’t get too micromanager-like as you have multiple domes etc.

I have plenty of food so I switched to a slower crop type on the farm that improves the soil, hehe.

With the world in such a state I’m having trouble feeling good about blowing even bad guys up in DCS. So recently I’ve been playing this in VR and it’s incredible.

Titanfall 2 is one of the best shooters I’ve ever played. Such a fantastic story.

Definitely agree! I wish Titanfall 2 was more active.

I still play Titanfall 2! Not every day, but about as much as I can, when I get the free time. It’s a good way to kill 20 or 30 minutes.

Same!

I went on today after work, it took about a minute to load a match. I think it’s coming back!

I went on to the Origin store and there is no price for Titanfall 2. Is it free for basic game?

Finsihed Halo CE recently - it plays fine but still have old issues that first Gearbox PC port introduced with graphics (Jackal shields, bumpmapping and some other stuff). The new remaster broke the music - loops are cut at slightly wrong timestamps (yeah the music is dynamic) and I had a strange bug of overlapping music at the end of last level (2 different tracks played at the same time). Over all it’s not bad, but they could iron it out more before release. Halo Reach was more polished.

To be fair to Halo CE I havent played it since I had my first x box and it came bundled with it. I loved it then and I still do. But Halo 2 was my jam. I am just excited to finally see the story play out after all these long years.

And the flood are still terrifying after all this time
