Really has been my favorite game over the past few years.
I couldn’t agree more.
@mudcat and @smokinhole
That looks interesting. In case you have played “Ori and the Blind Forest”, is this one easier or harder?
The controls are a much more responsive than Ori and the blind forest. The comparison with Super meat boy is pretty apt in that the controls are spot on that you never feel like the game got a cheap one over on you.
The deaths are yours and yours alone. Not sure I’d say either harder or easier, but more satisfying. If you are thinking of getting it check out a few places as it’s on sale often.
Smokinhole, do you mind me asking what sim is the major source of your frustration?
Looks like you just missed the sales, think it was on sale a week or two ago and was in a humble bundle a few months back. Well worth the full $15 price imo. I don’t have any spare keys on that one either.
Eventually this is going to come out, maybe soon, maybe not, they said not until it’s up to the same standard of the original
Sure!
All Of Them!
No—honestly—mainly IL2. Back in the 1946 days I did ok. I was never great. I certainly SHOULD have been given the amount of time I put into it. But still I flew well enough and fought well enough to generally enjoy myself. Then came Rise of Flight. Not before or since have I enjoyed a sim online as much as I did that one. I was part of a squad (IRFC) who I believe will always be friends. But I never flew very well. I constantly felt as if I was flying through cold honey. My rounds would fly perfect circles around my adversary. Hits were luck rather than skill. Meanwhile my friends were all getting head-shots and flamers in one or two passes. Then came IL2 BoX. This game has removed all bounds to my virtual ineptitude. I get my better half handed to me nearly every time I raise the gear. That’s when I realized that for 30+ years I have been fooling myself into thinking I might finally improve with a better PC or a better joystick or a fairer visibility structure. The truth is that none of these things matter. What matters is mindset. And mine seems to be immovable. When it comes to competitive virtual flying, I am damaged goods. Continuing to try was just bringing me down further. I was suffering similarly in DCS, by the way. So it isn’t strictly ACM or gunnery. It is a state of mind.
Sorry if that long admission sounds too morose and pity-filled. These are just games after all. And that’s the point. In some European languages the word for “game” seems to come from a similar etymological source as the word for “joy”. I have found joy in dumping that which brings no joy.
Nope. I’m declaring myself a lost cause!
I am not a fan of IL-2 box flight models or view range either. Get really tired of no matter which aircraft I fly an inferior aircraft always out climbs me and outruns me but when I fly that aircraft it has no power at all. If my virtual group was not flying it exclusively I would never fly any of the aircraft ever again.
I do however enjoy Tank Crew quite a bit.

I would be glad to play some with you, coach and be target to help you rediscover the joys of playing Red Baron ![]()
It is true, in French, jeu (game) is much like joye (pleasure), as in German, Spiel (game) and Spass (fun). Not exactly the same words, but clearly a common root somewhere.
That’s why I exclusively fly coop MP. I only fly against AI.
That way if someone else is better than you the only possible frustration is them stealing your kill!
Well…we do have one guy who will occasionally fly Redfor in DCS just to get time in a plane we don’t have on our side in a mission, and he will occasionally get one of us and we will sometimes get him, but it’s more a case of “sneak up and shoot”.
As for Il-2, since we lost the ability to have clients join local MP servers a few months back, we’ve only done it SP now. ![]()
@Aginor was scrolling through the Xbox game pass for PC, Hollow Knight is on there, just fyi
Thanks! But I am not a gamepass user. I added it to my steam wish list (maybe for the halloween sale).
I’ve been playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the 3rd in the new reboot series. The graphics are amazing, especially with the ray tracing on, but it still plays like TR.
Yeah I liked that one as well.
IMO the second one was a tad better but it was enjoyable.
So I picked these to up after seeing a card popup in my google news:
Absolute drift is a quirky little title, that has one glaring flaw for me. You can’t re-assign controls, which leaves my game pad having to use a button for the throttle. It’s still fun, but until I can get a some kind of analog axis for throttle it’s a minor diversion at best.
Art of rally on the other hand punches well above it’s weight. It is by far one of the most fun rally titles I’ve played in a long time. While it doesn’t have the graphics of say Dirt 2, or the realism of RBR, it encompasses the spirit of rallying incredibly well. The stylized graphics are amazing, the physics are surprisingly deep, and the car set is great. The lack of setup options on the cars might bother some, but I find it refreshing. The goal is the driving. The stages is short (usually 3-5 minutes) so it’s great for a quick fix, or when time is short.
I would highly recommend Art of Rally. Absolute Drift, if you have a PS5 or Xbox One you should be golden as your controller is mapped already. If you’re using a different type of control, I’ll give it a tentative recommendation. The visual style is great, and I like the mechanics, they can just be very difficult to access with the control setup that you might be required to use.
art of rally is fun, wish it was optimized better though.
Agreed, it certainly spins up my graphics card far more than I expected with what I’m seeing on the screen.
yeah, plenty of heat pumping out my case, getting some stutters too further along as well. I imagine/hope they do a bit for that in the near future.
Had to move my pc inside so wife could share it so no simming for the foreseeable…
Installed Just Cause 4 which I got free on Epic and its a proper giggle. It got bad press as the gameplay is subtly changed from the previous titles but I can’t see it changes things to much for the worse. Its really mindless fun.
My boy has also found “mudrunner” on my hard drive as well so we have been crawling through forests at 1mph for the last 3 hours.
