I unplugged the g2, and was able to launch both dcs and MSfs without installing WMR. But with virtual desktop, it’s totally unusable. The latency shot up to over 400ms when the games ran in VR mode. Fps was single digit, if not just 1… Not sure what was wrong. Steam VR games seem to work fine.
My USB 3.0 cable is still on the road. With a non optimum usb cable, the image quality was not good. A lot of shimmering; instruments aren’t sharp. Hopefully a new 3.0 cable will make a difference.
I am definitely not connecting my dedicated router for Quest 3 / Virtual Desktop correctly. I used a ethernet cable to connect a WIFI6e Linksys router (as a dedicated router for Quest 3) to my PC, which is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi. I then made a bridge network between the WiFi and the ethernet connection, and connected Quest 3 to the dedicated router WiFi. I was able to connect VD with this setup, and latency was 20-30ms before running any game. But when either MSFS or DCS runs, the latency goes down the toilet.
I can connect Quest 3 directly to the same WiFi that my PC is connected to for internet. VD can still work for MSFS, albeit quite poorly, but still much better than the dedicated router setup.
Can you guys briefly describe how you did your setup? Do you have a dedicated router connected to your PC? if so, how do you configure this router?
in the VD streamer app, I see only two options for OpenXR runtime - Steam VR and VDXR. Do you have Oculus as an option? Thanks!
With my setup, I have my Starlink modem/router connected to my PC with an Ethernet cable. The modem/router is WiFi 6. This I guess means that it reduces the unwired connection from the headset to the PC to a single hop (you will have to excuse my lack of the correct phraseology).
For MSFS, using Virtual Desktop you have to switch the runtime to VDXR for best results. As you have seen, there is no Oculus XR option when using VD. It would be great if VD could be used with a wired connection, but unfortunately that is not the case at this time, and I don’t think the author is interested in making that happen.
Thanks Paul! My internet modem/ router cannot be connected to my PC by Ethernet cable. I have to connect to the Internet by wifi. Then use a 2nd and dedicated router for quest 3.
Seems like I got it to work. Previously I connected the Ethernet cable from PC to the Internet port of the dedicated router. With bridge network set on the PC , the dedicated router can access Internet too. But VD didn’t work.
I deleted the bridge network on PC, and changed the Ethernet cable to plug into one of the Ethernet ports of the router. Without any additional configurations, VD works now. DCS is very good so far. MSFS is very sluggish. Next I’ll change the open XR runtime to VDXR, and see if MSFS would run better without steam VR. The dedicated router doesn’t have Internet, but that doesn’t matter.
P.S. DCS in quest 3 looks kind of greenish. Trying to find a way to adjust it…
Glad to hear that you got it working. I’m told that the VDXR runtime is very streamlined and therefore it is great for performance.
With regard to DCS being very green, I can’t say I noticed that coming from the Reverb G2, but the colors were definitely more vibrant. Isn’t there a hue adjustment setting in the DCS general settings tab? I could be wrong though.
I haven’t noticed green tint in my Quest 2 but DCS is very green-heavy in 2D. I’m always having to color-correct my screenshots because of it. Perhaps the Q3 is closer to a flat screen in color?
