I would prefer a Maverick to fly the jet while I do some of that RIO stuff.

Please not Maverick. That guy sucks.
I’d prefer a young Carey Lohrenz maybe…

Wouldn’t it be hiliarous for us lot to set a MP room on opposite sidesand all fly past each other blissfully unaware of anyone’s whereabouts :joy:

TV, IIR, or laser? Laser might be better if you’re using the pod. He might always run the jet in afterburner, though.

Only if there is an AWACS to call everyone Merged so we know when to start frantically looking around.

And then post a TacView track here so we can all see how everyone curved around never spotting each other!

To paraphrase… They must of been close… I had a hard on :+1:

If I don’t see the bogey at the merge, I send to hit AB, extend and try again. ā€œLive to fight another dayā€ and all that. Of course it is much harder to catch sight of bogey’s on the computer, which is why I don’t think that paddock (or is it padlock?…I don’t actually know…yikes) is cheating. That said, the Jester feature, if it works correctly, is a good compromise.

Speaking of Jester…F-14 aircrew were paired up–pilot / RIO–some time around the start of work ups. The idea was to put experienced pilots with less experienced RIOs and experienced RIOs with less experienced pilots*. Then they worked together, building their team work skills. They didn’t always fly together but mostly did. So is the Jester feature ā€œadjustableā€ in any way? Specifically, can you ā€œdial inā€ more frequent or less frequent bogey calls? That would be nice.

*The 2nd order effect was that as a RIO became more senior, he (only guys at the time) began to fly with pilots that, shall we say, hadn’t refined their skills as much, to the point where an XO or CO might be flying with a pilot just out of the RAG. The RIOs used to say something like, ā€œAs we get older, our pilots get younger and the flying gets scarier.ā€ :open_mouth:

PADLOCK IS NOT CHEATING. ITS STILL REAL TO ME DAMNIT!!!

Oops, I accidentally dropped in a double negative. It is fixed now.

My bad.

So Padlock, not Paddock…for years I’ve been saying…oh, never mind. :grimacing:

Also, the concept of experienced RIO with inexperienced pilot is very similar to what Marine Scout Snipers generally do. The Pig is usually pulling the trigger, while the Hog spots. At least this was the case in early 2000’s.

Remember at the end of the day, we’re talking about a clever lua script or C++ file with some sound files. If you’re looking for that deep of an experience, I think you’d be better served looking for a buddy to fly with.

says the cheater

I sometimes use F5 view, external padlock if my SA goes mammaries-up. Yeah call me a cheat and a fraud, see if I care :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh I don’t actually care. @Gunnyhighway and I bust each others chops, he knows what I’m about.

Padlock has been in sims for ages, all the way back to falcon 3 iirc. Does your chopbusting go back to those days?

Goes back about as far as when I got my first TrackIr, so… 2007?

I’m really all about flying the numbers and doing things by the book. That’s why I spent so much time perfecting the CASE 69 landing pattern.
